While surfing the Innernets for some potential Tomoposts (as we call them over at Tomopop), I happened upon an interesting little news blurb posted on Danny Choo. Turns out a fellow by the name of katsuma has taken the Wii balance board and Google Maps' Street View feature, somehow meshed the two together, and out of it all comes the ability to explore the world without ever leaving your house.
Google Street View by Wii Balance Board from katsuma on Vimeo. How does it work? The above video demonstrates all. However, if you don't want to watch it, then it goes a little something like this: The Wii balance board is used to simulate walking and looking around. Leaning from one side to the other will pivot the view in Google Maps, matching what would happen if you actually looked to the left or right. If you walk while on the board, you move forward and the street view screen reflects that. Interested in doing this on your own Wii? Well, check out the handy step-by-step instructions posted here! Unfortunately, it is all in Japanese, which means until someone translates it into English... you probably aren't going to be able to do this. Plus, it's apparently super-technical, requiring considerable programming skill. Still, it's nice to actually see someone put the Wii balance board to use by making it do something.

I for one hadn't heard about this, and found it interesting. Thanks, Nihon.
