About Me

Oh, hi there. Didn’t see you enter. Anyways, welcome to my humble little blog. For those of you not familiar with who I am, the name’s Brian. I’m 24 years old and hail from Findlay, Ohio. I work at the local newspaper here as a copy editor, putting my four long years of college to actual use. Kind of. I think.

For those of you who might recognize me from elsewhere, I work as Assistant Gaming Editor over at Blogcritics Gaming and as Features Editor over at Tomopop. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it because I get to do a lot of cool shit with a lot of cool people.

I've been gaming since the relatively young age of around 3 and I've played plenty of games, both good and bad. I'm continuously expanding my gaming collection, which has become more of an archive in recent years as I'm focusing on collecting older, less well-known titles. You'd honestly be surprised on what people are missing out on in bargain bins...

Other than gaming, I love anime, manga, sports, movies, TV, and a whole lot more. I also happen to have something of a legendary love for Cammy, to the point that I am the site's unofficial official Cammy fanboy. And yes, I do play as her in Street Fighter and do so quite well, too.

Also, I am Chad Concelmo's B.F.F., my prize for coming in first in The Great Retro Quiz .18 - ActRaiser. Accept no substitutes. Not even Aerox.

What'd You Get? - Steam's Yard Sale Edition
Brian Szabelski | 1:56 PM on 09.08.2008 20 comments

It's Monday, the beginning of the work week. Or rather, it would be if I had a job by now, but apparently, the interview process at all three places I interviewed at is still going on and taking them all longer than expected. Go figure. So while I'm waiting around for their responses, why not play some new games?

This week, my copy of Top Spin 3 for the Xbox 360 that I won from Samit's contest finally arrived. I also buckled under the pressure of the id Super Pack being $35 and bought the whole thing this weekend. Partially because for the last few months, I had NOT been looking for NOT torrents and/or NOT cracked copies of NOT Hexen, NOT Heretic, NOT Quake III and definitely NOT Doom 2 and 3. Of course, none of that matters now, since I finally have all of them and can cross them off my list.

So that's about it for me this week. As for everyone else, what'd you get?

P.S. - Does anyone know if the Steam copies of Quake III and Doom 2 can be used with mods that come from outside of Steam? Gut feeling on that is no.

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

Dude, applying for jobs is a full time job in of itself. Best of luck. :S

I was wondering the same thing about the copies of DOOM, as there are tons of conversions and souce mods that I would love to play again. I would expect so, as afaik the old games are just the original run through a DOSBOX shell in the Steam launcher. The original games should still be there and intact.

If I get a chance I'll check tonight and post here.

So obviously I picked up the id Super Pack over the weekend. Now I don't have to hang on to my copies of Ultimate DOOM, DOOM II and Final DOOM. I also picked up Castle Crashers using the code I got at PAX.

I bought On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness at PAX, but just today got it to work. So that counts for a new game this week.

I bought the id super pack. There was just no way to refuse a deal like that. Also I've hear that it is possible to play the game with mods but I haven't tried it myself yet.

Most of the games I've bought from Steam work with mods, you usually just drop it in the game's directory as you would a normal version.

Best thing to do is check the forum for the game (there's link on the store page or you can just right click in your Steam games list).
