Via GoNintendo, Nintendo Power had an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto which has appeared in their latest issue. It's from E3, and in it, they bring up the age-old question about a new Kid Icarus title, the thing we've been talking about really since Day 1 of the Wii on the Internet. Here's the exchange:
NP: And, of course, I have to ask: have you given any thought to putting a new Kid Icarus game on Wii or DS?
Miyamoto: Wait, please. I'm really surprised how popular that is. But you are the first person to ask at this E3!
It's rather ambiguous and doesn't say a lot, but Miyamoto seems hesitant to answer this question one way or the other and does note the popularity of the idea. If it's not already in the works, it might mean the ideas are being born in Shiggy's mind right now. The Nintendo crowd is not stupid like they sometimes make us think. They'll make a Kid Icarus if the buzz continues.
Not to be angry at you specifically, Nihon, but I'm sick and tired of headlines about this. There have been unnecessary heaps of rumors surrounding a new Kid Icarus game for years now, and they have all been debunked. Statements have been interpreted in every way possible. Until Nintendo is ready to come out and announce this, I can not possibly care about the remote possibility of the resurrection of a game that, to be honest, most people only played in retrospect and is probably best known to most people through Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
I gotta admit, I never even played the original Kid Icarus, so I have literally no opinion on the game. But a new one coming out for the Wii would make me want to download the original.
And like Gui said, anything other than Metroid from Retro Studios would be awesome. I love the Prime games TO DEATH, but I would really like to see what else they could do.
I've played the original Kid Icarus and, god its frustrating, but it's a good challenge. Is kind of like combining IceClimber's climbing style with Metroid's exploration and even power-up collecting.
I know a lot of people really want this game, but I can't imagine it having much in common with the original game except for a character named Pit who flies. Which maybe is enough for a lot of people. I think it's a game that mostly dyed in the wool Nintendo fans remember, which isn't most of Nintendo's current audience. If they resurrected it as a nod to the fans, which is possible, they'd have to make sure it would appeal to their new audience as well. Which rules out an ultra challenging vertical climbing exploration game. We could very well get our Kid Icarus Wii, but who knows what game style would be underneath the mythology paint.
The real reason a lot of people kind of instinctually want this is because they know it's their only real chance at getting a "new hardcore IP" from Nintendo anytime soon. I say new and hardcore with the loosest possible definitions.
This doesn't really say anything. However, it also says a great deal. Nintendo are great at being cryptic. Hopefully we will see a new Kid Icarus title soon, but some people have been waiting nearly 20 years for a third game in the series.
I can't even pay attention to any of this. The way I've adapted to nintendo this generation is to not care until they actually say something. Don't believe the rumors, etc, because I don't want to be even more dissapointed when a good game never comes out.
Thats why Other M was such a big surprise to me at E3

That really is the only reason I care, Tristero. I couldn't give a shit about the original Kid Icarus' gameplay.
a new kid icarus isn't even a rumor anymore. for those that were paying attention a couple years ago at the e3 when AC:WW was first shown, reggie said in an interview that they had wanted to show kid icarus but that it just wasn't presentable yet

Oh, hi there. Didn’t see you enter. Anyways, welcome to my humble little blog. For those of you not familiar with who I am, the name’s Brian. I’m 23 years old and hail from Lorain, Ohio, just outside of Cleveland. I work at the local newspaper here as a copy editor, putting my four long years of college to actual use. Kind of. I think.
For those of you who might recognize me from elsewhere, I work as Assistant Gaming Editor over at Blogcritics Gaming and as Features Editor over at Tomopop. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it because I get to do a lot of cool shit with a lot of cool people.
I've been gaming since the relatively young age of around 3 and I've played plenty of games, both good and bad. I'm continuously expanding my gaming collection, which has become more of an archive in recent years as I'm focusing on collecting older, less well-known titles. You'd honestly be surprised on what people are missing out on in bargain bins...
Other than gaming, I love anime, manga, sports, movies, TV, and a whole lot more. I also happen to have something of a legendary love for Cammy, to the point that I am the site's unofficial official Cammy fanboy. And yes, I do play as her in Street Fighter and do so quite well, too.
Also, I am Chad Concelmo's B.F.F., my prize for coming in first in The Great Retro Quiz .18 - ActRaiser. Accept no substitutes. Not even Aerox.

I'd love it if they were working on this. After playing the Metroid Prime games, Retro can have my money any day.
