I happened to be browsing the Interwebs this morning when I came upon an interesting story over at GameGirl. All-around gaming girl/model/blogger Raychul Moore wrote an article on the top 7 geek panties for girls, featuring a few pics that are a bit eye-catching (see above).

Now, some of you might wonder the reason that this article was written. You might say “Hey, they’re just writing that to draw in male readers.”

Well, you might be partially right, especially judging from some of the comments below the story, but I don’t think you’re totally right. I don’t personally know Raychul (unfortunately) but from what some who do know her have told me, she’s a pretty nice person, and all the sexy modeling she does is just part of her personality. Plus, on top of that, the article, and GameGirl as a site, is geared more towards the female population, just like the Girls Entertainment Network. Is there anything wrong with that? No, not at all.

Does the whole story really help out perceived stereotypes that might be held amongst the gaming community? There’s a bit more wiggle room there to say yes or no, and to be honest, I’m not totally sure if it does one way or the other. Again, I’ve been a bit more immune to the whole drooling over gamer girls thing because in part, I grew up with two sisters that were about as hardcore as I was and would just as easily kick my ass in Mario Kart or Smash Bros. if I got too cocky.

The end result that I come to is the underlying Golden Rule of every news Web site: bring people to your site to read your crap. Destructoid does it, GameGirl does it, IGN does it, Joystiq does it. They just all do it in different ways.

So in the end, the article serves a couple different purposes and it’s well-written (and yes, I actually read the damn thing), but it doesn’t really go too far. It provides a useful service to girls who might actually be interested in knowing this information, as well as draws in traffic from both makes and females. I’d love to hear what you guys all think on the issue, though.
