About Me

Oh, hi there. Didn’t see you enter. Anyways, welcome to my humble little blog. For those of you not familiar with who I am, the name’s Brian. I’m 24 years old and hail from Findlay, Ohio. I work at the local newspaper here as a copy editor, putting my four long years of college to actual use. Kind of. I think.

For those of you who might recognize me from elsewhere, I work as Assistant Gaming Editor over at Blogcritics Gaming and as Features Editor over at Tomopop. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it because I get to do a lot of cool shit with a lot of cool people.

I've been gaming since the relatively young age of around 3 and I've played plenty of games, both good and bad. I'm continuously expanding my gaming collection, which has become more of an archive in recent years as I'm focusing on collecting older, less well-known titles. You'd honestly be surprised on what people are missing out on in bargain bins...

Other than gaming, I love anime, manga, sports, movies, TV, and a whole lot more. I also happen to have something of a legendary love for Cammy, to the point that I am the site's unofficial official Cammy fanboy. And yes, I do play as her in Street Fighter and do so quite well, too.

Also, I am Chad Concelmo's B.F.F., my prize for coming in first in The Great Retro Quiz .18 - ActRaiser. Accept no substitutes. Not even Aerox.

Rock Band Requests #0: The Voice of the People
Brian Szabelski | 10:25 PM on 06.17.2008 21 comments

A while back, I did a write up on what the next Guitar Hero game should have, and it was received well. Then I got hooked on Rock Band and started thinking about all the fun songs I'd love to play that weren't in the game. What started as a handful of songs soon grew out of control, spanning genres, artists, decades as I began to think which songs would be awesome on Rock Band and which songs I hoped would show up one day.

Out of all this, an idea was born: why not do a feature every once in a while highlighting an artist or genre and some of their songs that should be on Rock Band? No one else was really doing it, so I figured why not. And thus, Rock Band Requests was born.

I currently have a list of bands that will be featured in this series, including but not limited to:

Red Hot Chili Peppers
Alice in Chains
Eagles
Led Zeppelin
Queen
System of a Down
The Rolling Stones
Rammstein
Genesis/Phil Collins
Kenny Loggins

And more!

But not everything will be handed down by me on a silver platter to you, the Dtoid community, for your debating and consuming masses. I'm interested to hear what you all think, and that's what this post is all about. What do you want to see? What do you not want to see? I'd like to hear anything and everything you've got to say about this idea in the comments below. I already have my first entry loosely planned out in that I know the artist and songs, but I'm working on the structure and style. Also, if there are any artists you'd really like to see, let me know and if they're not on my list, I'll put them on there.

I hope this will be kind of a fun, yet also interesting and at times serious feature. Hopefully you guys will enjoy it, too. :D

Specifically? The Used, Guns N' Roses, maybe some Killswitch Engaged, Hoobastank, etc.

Also, if you want to talk about the style or structure for the feature alongside artists, please feel free to do so. :)

This sounds interesting and i agree with every band there (extremely so for Led Zep, just put the whole Mothership album on there please!). And 'Du Hast' would be hell fun.
Also i agree with zserv for Guns and Roses, not so much the used :P.
Also - more Muse, more Foo Fighters (suits Rock band more than guitar hero, fuck i hate activision...), some TOOL! Lateralus would be epic. Also Though the Fire and Flames... i think it would be hilariously good fun to play with mates.

I honestly believe that Protest the Hero would be the ultimate for Rock Band.

More Weezer is always welcome. I'd love to hear some R.E.M. and White Stripes, too. I don't recall them appearing much in these sorts of games, if at all. And has Blue Oyster Cult's "Godzilla" appeared yet? Seriously, there's a TON of stuff I'd like to see in Rock Band. The list could go on forever.

And I'd like to see fewer no-name thrash bands and whiny emo/punk BS, like Fall Out Pussies and Panic At The Shitsco, etc.

RX Bandit's new stuff is amazing. It's like modern psychedelic rock.

Also, Strung Out's new albums is great; the song Calling has one of the coolest intros ever, with a Dragonforce-esque solo in the middle.

Mogwai. You know, for a laugh.

What I want more is an Australian release date.

Bloc Party - Silent Alarm

That whole album is not only awesome, but it would be fun to play on all instruments (especially drums) and would be a bit different from all the other songs already out for RB.

I would love to see Green Day's entire "Dookie" album. That was huge for me growing up, and it would just be fun to play. Led Zeppelin, of course, but what songs? "Rock and Roll" would be awesome, and very fitting for Rock Band. Or maybe "Black Dog," or "The Immigrant Song" for the crazy vocals.

Mxyzptlk, my friend would love you for that Midnight Oil suggestion. He watches the "Beds are Burning" video constantly, with the weird singer spazzing out doing "the moon dance."

2 of the best would be:

Les Claypool's Bucket of Burnie Brains: Not many people have heard about this band, but, it's perfect for Rock Band. Les Claypool (from Primus) on bass and vocals, Buckethead and Burnie on guitar, and the greatest pseudo-Mexican drummer in the world, Brain.

Bela Fleck and The Flecktones: SIMPLY FUCKING AMAZING! Victor Wooten, Bela Fleck, and fucking Future Man.
