About Me

Oh, hi there. Didn’t see you enter. Anyways, welcome to my humble little blog. For those of you not familiar with who I am, the name’s Brian. I’m 24 years old and hail from Findlay, Ohio. I work at the local newspaper here as a copy editor, putting my four long years of college to actual use. Kind of. I think.

For those of you who might recognize me from elsewhere, I work as Assistant Gaming Editor over at Blogcritics Gaming and as Features Editor over at Tomopop. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it because I get to do a lot of cool shit with a lot of cool people.

I've been gaming since the relatively young age of around 3 and I've played plenty of games, both good and bad. I'm continuously expanding my gaming collection, which has become more of an archive in recent years as I'm focusing on collecting older, less well-known titles. You'd honestly be surprised on what people are missing out on in bargain bins...

Other than gaming, I love anime, manga, sports, movies, TV, and a whole lot more. I also happen to have something of a legendary love for Cammy, to the point that I am the site's unofficial official Cammy fanboy. And yes, I do play as her in Street Fighter and do so quite well, too.

Also, I am Chad Concelmo's B.F.F., my prize for coming in first in The Great Retro Quiz .18 - ActRaiser. Accept no substitutes. Not even Aerox.

Reason #3,672 why I have a love/hate relationship with NeoGAF
Brian Szabelski | 9:33 PM on 06.29.2009 13 comments

Oh, NeoGAF. You hate Destructoid so over there (or at least large portions of it), but yet somehow, you always find a way to make me and the rest of us love you to pieces. And once again, they've done just that in the ever-growing Scribblenauts thread. It's 62 pages and counting as we speak, but the golden gem of the thread so far hasn't been reading the responses after everyone there realized this game would be great. It's what the folks at Tiny Cartridge and yours truly saw recently from them:

Image courtesy Kotaku, who also picked the story up

I don't even need to explain why that's awesome, but the NeoGAF artists have come through again. And I have a feeling I'll be getting new Twitter and Dtoid avatars very soon from the above selection.

Now, could someone here do a Scribblenauts version of Mr. Destructoid and the rest of the Dtoid team? Actually, maybe I could if I had the time ...

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

I love the "Bill" one especially lol.

I love Bill so much, he's the man. His No Mercy elevator lines are hilarious :)

I like NeoGAF. Unfortunately they're often the 4chan of the video game industry. I wouldn't be too concerned if they hate on XYZ. Everyone gets a turn. They'll say the same thing about us, I'm sure, except we're not being utterly dickless by posting anon.

@Niero:

Yeah, I generally find them to be pretty good people, but like you said, they're often the gaming journalism world's 4chan. Sometimes it's the best place to go for info, and sometimes, you just want to get out of there because of all the rampant fanboy fighting.

You know, when you have characters with a lack of eyebrows and beady eyes, I get a very disturbing vibe. I'm pretty sure there was a simple and adorable feeling they were going for, but I'm not getting it for most of them.

Also, that Travis Touchdown one is brilliant.

I think Neogaf is too damn big. 571 pages for Killzone 2, 1986 pages for Halo 3. Yeah uhm, no, I'm not gonna read that all.

NeoGAF would be fine if they weeded out the arrogant little shits who think they're important and above everybody else, just because they can post on an Internet message board.
