About Me

Oh, hi there. Didn’t see you enter. Anyways, welcome to my humble little blog. For those of you not familiar with who I am, the name’s Brian. I’m 24 years old and hail from Findlay, Ohio. I work at the local newspaper here as a copy editor, putting my four long years of college to actual use. Kind of. I think.

For those of you who might recognize me from elsewhere, I work as Assistant Gaming Editor over at Blogcritics Gaming and as Features Editor over at Tomopop. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it because I get to do a lot of cool shit with a lot of cool people.

I've been gaming since the relatively young age of around 3 and I've played plenty of games, both good and bad. I'm continuously expanding my gaming collection, which has become more of an archive in recent years as I'm focusing on collecting older, less well-known titles. You'd honestly be surprised on what people are missing out on in bargain bins...

Other than gaming, I love anime, manga, sports, movies, TV, and a whole lot more. I also happen to have something of a legendary love for Cammy, to the point that I am the site's unofficial official Cammy fanboy. And yes, I do play as her in Street Fighter and do so quite well, too.

Also, I am Chad Concelmo's B.F.F., my prize for coming in first in The Great Retro Quiz .18 - ActRaiser. Accept no substitutes. Not even Aerox.

Mass Effect Two-Disc Edition announced
Brian Szabelski | 10:18 PM on 01.17.2009 13 comments

Hey, you. Own a 360? Like long, grinding RPGs? Never played BioWare's Mass Effect? Well, you're in luck if you've missed out on it so far and weren't lucky enough to get the Limited Collector's Edition, because BioWare and EA are re-releasing what is essentially the collector's edition of the game, bundling it with the "Bring Down the Sky" DLC, and releasing it next month (the day before my birthday, actually) for only $19.99. Consider that the DLC alone makes up 25 percent of that cost at 400 MS Points, and you're getting a good deal if you're a first-time Mass Effect player. Gamestop is taking pre-orders for it now, if you so wish to buy it.

The game was good enough for me that I actually started grinding through it again to get to level 60 but have since forgotten where I left off from and pretty much stopped playing it thanks to Fallout 3. And hey, I got it for free (thank you, Target, you fools!), so I really can't complain. It's not perfect and it shows its age, especially with the textures popping in, but it's still a solid title.

Is this new bundle enough to entice those of you who haven't played Mass Effect yet to give it a shot? Is it enough to get people interested in the franchise again before Mass Effect 2 drops later this year, perhaps?

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

I already have this, but my copy is in not-so-much- mint condition. I probably won't be getting this because I live in Canada, and even though the American and Canadian dollar are pretty much the same, the price will still be jacked up to $30.

Sounds like a great deal though. Next Orange Box guys?

I'm not even finished with my first playthrough. I'll still probably buy this anyway, though. Someday.

I've got it for the PC and don't have a 360, so this looks like a pass for me.

@Garison
This does not even come close to matching the value of the Orange Box.

I missed Mass Effect the first time, so I'll buy this for sure.

bah, I stopped playing this right around a year ago. That dinosaur who kidnapped that smurf lady kept kicking my ass.

If they decided to drop the price of the DLC in conjunction with this release, or better yet, make it free, that would be just great.

I've played through Mass Effect 3 or 4 times, I've read both the prequel book and the sequel book but I basically own all those bells and whistles already. But if you haven't picked it up I highly recommend it.

If you haven't picked this up, you should get this set, its fucking awesome!

but, small hint, play as a woman, staring at a sexy woman's ass in spandex for 50 hours is WAY more fun then staring at a dude's ass in spandex :p

I might have to buy this. I saw my friends play the game, but I haven't played it. I'm also a big fan of Bioware, well KOTOR at least haha. Oh, and Chaos591, Mass Effect was a 2007 game. 2007 was a great year as well.

Exactly the reason I didn't waste my money on the DLC.

I will purchase this so I can have a hard copy of the DLC.

@ Jamnontheone

I'm really betting on the DLC mission being included as a download code, similar to how other exclusive or bonus content in new retail versions of games (like Gears 2's flashback maps) or special editions (like Soulcalibur IV's bonus costume pieces). A precedent was set for this sort of behavior with COD4's map pack being a DLC code in the Game of the Year edition. I doubt Bioware would put the DLC mission on the disc when distributing already-produced bonus discs from the Limited Collector's Edition and tossing in a DLC code would be much easier.
