About Me

Oh, hi there. Didn’t see you enter. Anyways, welcome to my humble little blog. For those of you not familiar with who I am, the name’s Brian. I’m 24 years old and hail from Findlay, Ohio. I work at the local newspaper here as a copy editor, putting my four long years of college to actual use. Kind of. I think.

For those of you who might recognize me from elsewhere, I work as Assistant Gaming Editor over at Blogcritics Gaming and as Features Editor over at Tomopop. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it because I get to do a lot of cool shit with a lot of cool people.

I've been gaming since the relatively young age of around 3 and I've played plenty of games, both good and bad. I'm continuously expanding my gaming collection, which has become more of an archive in recent years as I'm focusing on collecting older, less well-known titles. You'd honestly be surprised on what people are missing out on in bargain bins...

Other than gaming, I love anime, manga, sports, movies, TV, and a whole lot more. I also happen to have something of a legendary love for Cammy, to the point that I am the site's unofficial official Cammy fanboy. And yes, I do play as her in Street Fighter and do so quite well, too.

Also, I am Chad Concelmo's B.F.F., my prize for coming in first in The Great Retro Quiz .18 - ActRaiser. Accept no substitutes. Not even Aerox.

Forbes: The iPhone could challenge the DS-bwahahahahahahaha... sorry, still just too funny.

It's not every day I get a good chuckle from a business publication, but today's one of those days. Turns out Forbes has a little article posted titled, "Why Apple Could Kill the Nintendo DS." The article centers around the idea that Apple's soon-to-be-launched App Store for the iPod and iPhone will allow more games onto the console, and given that Nintendo has recently started following along Apple's own master plan - don't say anything about your podcuts until the last possible moment to capture all the hype - Forbes seems to think there's a chance Apple's touchscreen phone could take down the less-capable DS at a time when the DS' line-up is starting to weaken.

Thankfully, they don't recognize this as an easy kill, citing the built-in market and success Nintendo has had. But they do say that games getting released on the iPhone and DS with increasing numbers, like Spore, could be a sign that the tables are about to turn.

This won't happen. Nintendo and Sony could get a new rival in the iPhone as part of a changing mobile phone market, but if Apple tries to turn the iPhone into an expensive multimedia device that also happens to play games, they only need look at the PSP to see their future. Sure, Sony's handheld has picked up steam the past few quarters, but that's because Sony is focusing on it more as a gaming handheld with other features and not the other way around. Sony tried to push the PSP as a multimedia device that played games, too, and they got pummeled by a poor library of games, UMDs nobody was really buying, and the fact that they had priced it at over $200 when the DS could be found around $50 cheaper. Plus, the DS is likely old technology, and new handhelds from Sony and Nintendo are almost certainly on the horizon for late 2009-early 2010.

So don't count on the iPhone taking out the DS or even the PSP. It'll find a place in some gamer's hearts, but certainly not everyone's. Especially if I have to be stuck with AT&T to even own one I can use as a phone.

iPhone could definitely challenge the PSP but I don't think that's saying much. If I know Apple this will not be waisted effort.

@Takeshi
Yeah, on second thought that doesn't seem to be realistic.
But I'm not counting that possibility out. If it turns out to be anything like iTunes I think some they'll be getting some serious attention.

Right now It seems the PSP to alot of people is just a portable PS2. Which I'm actually have alot of love for especially since there's alot of PS2 games I haven't bought, yet.

No way, there's a 200 dollar price difference between the iphone and the DS.
