With only three entries in, I thought I should just post a reminder about the contest I was holding. It takes only a little bit of time and it's worth it for some free stuff. Plus, you get to look really cool if you win.
The Does It Suck "Do It Yourself" Contest
So, you might be wondering, how does this work? Well, originally, this was going to be a
sadistic scavenger hunt, but due to time-constraints and planning problems, that's being
saved for my next contest. Plus it gives me even more time to make it as brutal as
possible.
In it's place, the "Do It Yourself" contest is a simple, tried and true Destructoid c-blog
method: take something I do as a feature and try not to screw it up.
In this case, it's my Does It Suck? feature, a look at how much games really suck (or rock).
Here's what you'll need to do:
- Find any of my old Does It Suck? feature posts and read them.
- After observing a few of these, write your own Does It Suck? entry on a game of your
choosing. It can follow the format I have outlined in my previous posts, but if you have
something you think is better, go for it. You can move things around a bit or add elements
if you'd like, but try not to change things too drastically.
- Scores for games are based on a scale of 0-10, with 0 being "does not suck" and 10 being
"massive suckage." 5 is "moderate suckage." Grade accordingly.
- In your blog post's title, please include the words "Does It Suck Contest" so that I can
spot them easily if I need to do an emergency search or something.
- Once you complete your entry and post it, send me a PM with the following information:
* Your name on Destructoid
* A link to your post
* A list of consoles you own
* E-mail address you'd like me to contact you at if you win (or I can use PMs... whatever
floats your boat)
- The following games cannot be used in the contest, as I have previously used them:
F.EA.R. Files (Xbox 360)
Jenga World Tour (Wii)
Blades of Steel (NES)
Double Dribble (NES and Arcade)
Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball (Super Nintendo)
- As a few hints, here's what I find important when I do this feature: creativity is important.
Sticking to games that suck is fine... but why not try and Being witty is also important, but
most of all, providing solid information, solid opinion and solid reasoning behind that opinion
is what makes a Does It Suck? post great. You can say Halo 3 is crap... but you had better
have some good, solid reasons behind it to prove it. Also, there are other things I may
grade on, but I'm not telling you guys that just yet. ;-)
And prizes? Yes, you can has some:
The grand prize includes a copy (read as: my extra copy) of F.E.A.R. Files for the Xbox
360, a game I covered on my Does It Suck? feature in the past, as well as a random
assortment of other titles. Just which ones, though? That's part of the mystery and fun. It
all depends on a.) how good of a job you do and b.) the kind of mood I'm in at the time I
go to get your prize. Maybe it'll be a retro classic. Maybe it'll be a retro turd or two. You'll
never know if you don't enter.
Depending on the number of entries received, there may be second and/or third place
prizes, which will be smaller and roughly similar in value. The more people that enter, the
more prizes I may give out.
The contest ends at noon, April 30, 2008. No exceptions. I do not care if your dog
ate your computer. Maybe you shouldn't have a computer made out of meat then.
