About Me

Oh, hi there. Didn’t see you enter. Anyways, welcome to my humble little blog. For those of you not familiar with who I am, the name’s Brian. I’m 24 years old and hail from Findlay, Ohio. I work at the local newspaper here as a copy editor, putting my four long years of college to actual use. Kind of. I think.

For those of you who might recognize me from elsewhere, I work as Assistant Gaming Editor over at Blogcritics Gaming and as Features Editor over at Tomopop. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it because I get to do a lot of cool shit with a lot of cool people.

I've been gaming since the relatively young age of around 3 and I've played plenty of games, both good and bad. I'm continuously expanding my gaming collection, which has become more of an archive in recent years as I'm focusing on collecting older, less well-known titles. You'd honestly be surprised on what people are missing out on in bargain bins...

Other than gaming, I love anime, manga, sports, movies, TV, and a whole lot more. I also happen to have something of a legendary love for Cammy, to the point that I am the site's unofficial official Cammy fanboy. And yes, I do play as her in Street Fighter and do so quite well, too.

Also, I am Chad Concelmo's B.F.F., my prize for coming in first in The Great Retro Quiz .18 - ActRaiser. Accept no substitutes. Not even Aerox.

Disaster: Day of Crisis "indefinitely delayed." Next stop, Cancellation Town?
Brian Szabelski | 11:30 PM on 05.17.2008 18 comments

Ohhhhhhh boy.

The news broke today that Monolithsoft's Wii title, Disaster: Day of Crisis, has been "indefinitely delayed," and well... those perhaps aren't the best words to Wii owner's ears. Not after some bad experiences I've had with projects being delayed indefinitely in the past that I was really looking forward to.

Was I looking forward to the title? Yes, yes I was, in the sense it might be a good game that might spark some third-parties to keep thinking outside the box and to stop with the mini games already. There are times I feel like developers do need a cattle prod to the ass to help get Wii development truly going, as it seems right now like only a handful of them are actually trying.

Now, as a Wii owner, this is not good news. It brings up memories of Project H.A.M.M.E.R. getting this treatment and later getting cancelled so they could work on a mini-game compilation. This doesn't mean Disaster will suffer the same fate, but the odds are not looking fantastic, if you ask me. I don't know why they'd tell Monolithsoft to pull the plug on this game, not when the Wii is taking a savage beating for being too non-gamer friendly. Sure, Mad World helped deflect some of that scorn, but it's still there. The delay is not the bad part in this... it's the adjective before that's scary.

All I have to say is I hope for the best... but I'm preparing myself for the worst, just in case. Disaster didn't seem like a big-selling title such as a Wii Fit or Wii Play, but it likely would fill a need Wii owners desperately have.

At least we have Boom Blox and LostWinds to keep our little minds busy for now...

Project Hammer got cancelled because it wasn't very fun (according to pretty much everyone who actually got to go hands on with the game.)

Then what the hell is Monolith soft doing? I assume THEY aren't going to be making shitty casual games anytime soon. Though now that Nintendo owns them...

I really hope this game still sees the light of day... I remember one of the first CG's released of it where you see an entire city being swallowed by a huge tsunami... That was way before the wii even came out... ( since at first it was supposed to come out 2 months after the Wii was released )

I'm going to be extremely upset if they do cancel it completely. I'm still trying to hold on, even though we all know what's going to happen. I also remember when they first announced it and project hammer for the wii way before it even launched.

The way I'm thinking is they didn't know what direction the wii would take off before they announced it. So they made equal amounts of "Hardcore" and casual games. And they'd see which way the majority of people would sway. So now that the general public just wants casual games, they are putting their efforts into that.

It really pisses me off to think that they could do this, as I've loved Nintendo for a long time. Now it just feels like they are writing me off.

Its to be expected, good games don't sell on the Wii(unless Nintendo makes them and their track record is questionable at best in this new generation).

What does sell is shovelware crap and minigame compilations, and that's what you'll get.

I remember when the Wii was announced, the things people thought off, the posibilities, the amazing games and the critics where silenced by the legion of fanboys.

I hope you're all enjoying your gimmicky waggle system and one good game every few months, hey now Nintendo fans know what PC fans go through all the time.

I hope it's canceled. When they first announced this it sounded like it might be something along the lines of Irem's (freaking amazing) Raw Danger (or the lesser Disaster Report), but what they wound up showing reminded me more of Winback with water than anything else.

Damn, I was really hoping for something that hadn't been addressed yet in video games.

I had always just assumed it had been canceled. You mean you thought it still had a chance of coming out?
