Via GoNintendo, Nintendo Power had an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto which has appeared in their latest issue. It's from E3, and in it, they bring up the age-old question about a new Kid Icarus title, the thing we've been talking about really since Day 1 of the Wii on the Internet. Here's the exchange:
NP: And, of course, I have to ask: have you given any thought to putting a new Kid Icarus game on Wii or DS?
Miyamoto: Wait, please. I'm really surprised how popular that is. But you are the first person to ask at this E3!
It's rather ambiguous and doesn't say a lot, but Miyamoto seems hesitant to answer this question one way or the other and does note the popularity of the idea. If it's not already in the works, it might mean the ideas are being born in Shiggy's mind right now. The Nintendo crowd is not stupid like they sometimes make us think. They'll make a Kid Icarus if the buzz continues. read more

A long time ago, someone over at the Steam Forums did a mock-up of Team Fortress 2 as an RPG. And it was good. Really good. Good enough that I'd actually play it for the lulz. Fast forward to today, when the message board for one of the servers I frequent posted a little tidbit about a TF2 RPG being real.
No, it's not what you think. You'll need a nice flat table to play this one on. And some d20s.
[TPG] Deadshot and his cousin, [TPG] Wade Wilson were one day bored out of their minds and did not have TF2 to keep them entertained. Or a computer for that matter. So they devised the Team Fortress 2 RPG, a pen and paper take on the Valve MMOFPS title. It's still a work in progress, mind you, but the boys have already come up with quite a bit, including a basic set of rules, character sheets and weapons rulesets. They even have forums and a Steam group to join, if you are so inclined. It's a lot like Dungeons and Dragons, so if that kind of game's not your thing, steer clear. However, if it is, then it's worth a look, at least in my opinion. This is coming from someone who once took part in a Star Wars tabletop game for about two weeks during middle school before everyone forgot about it and moved onto something else.
In the end, is it something I would play? Absolutely.
... If I could tear myself away from TF2 to do it. read more

Square Enix has yet another teaser up (what is it with teasers? I sense a post coming from yours truly on that ... ) for another game to be announced. It started out as just trees, but now there's a dragon and a boy with a sword riding him. Some music plays in the background, and the actual page source has no clues to what it might be for.
To try and determine what the game could be, I did some Matlocking and checked out the libraries for Square, Enix and Taito, just to be sure it wasn't some trick. After sadly realizing it wasn't ActRaiser-related and seeing it had nothing to do with Taito's library, I asserted that it had to come from Square's past, and after a brief study of the page and Square's games from days gone by, I came to the conclusion that this could only be Romancing SaGa 4, and I am 99.99999% certain of that.
What leads me to think it's Romancing SaGa 4 for certain?
- It's the fourth numbered installment in the series, matching up with the four on the page
- The music playing in the background is from past Romancing SaGa games
- Tomomi Kobayashi, former Romancing Saga head artist, has stated in his blog that he is working with Square Enix on something new
- Romancing SaGa has boys with swords and dragons
- It would make sense to resurrect an old franchise
The clock still has about 5 days worth of time to go, meaning the announcement should happen late on July 4 or early on July 5, depending on your location. We also don't know what consoles it will be on or if it will even be *gasp* a digitally downloadable title or a retail title, so those are things to look forward to. But yeah, surprise is ruined, kids. There will always be next time, though. read more

Oh, NeoGAF. You hate Destructoid so over there (or at least large portions of it), but yet somehow, you always find a way to make me and the rest of us love you to pieces. And once again, they've done just that in the ever-growing Scribblenauts thread. It's 62 pages and counting as we speak, but the golden gem of the thread so far hasn't been reading the responses after everyone there realized this game would be great. It's what the folks at Tiny Cartridge and yours truly saw recently from them:
Image courtesy Kotaku, who also picked the story up
I don't even need to explain why that's awesome, but the NeoGAF artists have come through again. And I have a feeling I'll be getting new Twitter and Dtoid avatars very soon from the above selection.
Now, could someone here do a Scribblenauts version of Mr. Destructoid and the rest of the Dtoid team? Actually, maybe I could if I had the time ... read more

I like building stuff or games you get to play God in. Except for some reason, I can't play The Sims for more than like 20 minutes before getting bored. Weird. But these games are what's behind the reasoning for this week's What'd You Get?, the Dtoid Community Blog feature where you, the community member, get to mention all the cool things you got without having to make a C-Blog or listen to "PIX OR ITS FAKE." We'll trust you, don't worry.
This week, I got in on the Cities XL beta, but that's all I can tell you. I'm under a nice NDA, which means no talking about the game's contents. That will come when my NDA eventually expires. Oh, and I've been playing a few Flash games for a feature idea I might be doing soon. Which reminds me: I need to get back to feature writing.
Anyways, that's all for me. Just a beta and a reminder I haven't done a feature in months. What'd all of you get? read more

The folks behind Xbox Live Indie Game title Clover aren't too happy with the way the Xbox Live Indie Games market works, and they're vocal enough to tell that to Digital Spy. Binary Tweed managing director Daniel Jones said that the game has underperformed and that there's no way they'll be able to recoup costs on their title.
"The problem is that the Community Games market is just too small, and the people buying titles via the service don't seem at all interested in games. In the first week of Clover's release, the top ten CG titles was made of eight applications, RC-Airsim and one edutainment game."
In the end, it seems like at least for Binary Tweed, the Indie Games section will not be more than an arena for testing while they focus on trying to somehow crack through the developer glass ceiling another way. I only wonder about the future of the Indie Games section, if this is the case. Who can afford to keep eating losses and still try to be profitable? Certainly not the smallest guys out there. read more

I think the best way to describe today is that I wish it never happened. Things went wrong, work was awful to the point that I dread going in tomorrow, even though I worked my ass off, and as a result, things in the near future might be in doubt. Also, it made What'd You Get? really, really late this week, but it's still here, so don't worry.
I didn't get anything this week, but I did lose my sanity and my headset's mic broke. So I get to post a net loss for the week, I guess. I did download Smashball and play it, and while the game's fun, it crashes way, way, way too much. That's a shame.
Anyways, that's it for me this week. What'd all of you get? read more

BioWare's Casey Hudson has a new post up on the developer's blog at BioWare's Web site, and in it, he talks about the game's ending. You know, the thing that's been getting a lot of attention because of the whole Shepard dying at the end thing. He spends a bit of the post talking about what exactly that all means:
"When we say that Shepard can die in Mass Effect 2, it’s not something that happens at points in the middle of the game. Yes, you can “die” in game play as normal but that’s not what we’re talking about here. It’s not a “Game Over” screen. It’s not a gimmicky thing where you make a choice, “die”, and reload to continue to the “real” ending. When you get to the very end of the story in Mass Effect 2, you will get one of a wide variety of climactic and satisfying endings. Depending on how prepared you were, your ending may involve Shepard making the ultimate sacrifice to accomplish the mission."
Sounds awesome to me. An ending with real consequences based on how you played throughout the entire game? I can really get behind that. And as for the suicide mission Shepard's going on:
"In Mass Effect 2, you (as Commander Shepard) are faced with what appears to be a suicide mission: taking a team into the heart of enemy territory where you shouldn’t have any chance of coming back alive. Your survival therefore is based on how well you’ve built a team – who you recruited, how well-equipped they are, and whether they’re loyal to you. Loyalty (and the things you’ll do to earn it) is a central part of the game, and it is critical to Shepard surviving the final mission."
"Paragon / Renegade decisions affect a lot of things in the game – and will affect which how the game ends – but they are completely separate from your character’s readiness to survive the final mission."
Those loud squeals of joy you just heard? Yeah, they're from me. Drew Karpyshyn, Hudson, Dtoid's Kitae and the rest of the BioWare crew are determined to take the best game I ever got for free (thanks, Target!) and make it ten-thousand times better, it seems. The original Mass Effect had several issues, a lot of them being graphical (curse you, pop-in textures!) and some related to game play, but from all accounts, these have been fixed and a ton more content's been thrown on top. Next year needs to come sooner so I can put down Forza 3 and pick up Mass Effect 2.
Oh, and there might be some hawt alien secks:
"As for whether there will be alien love in an elevator, you’ll have to play to find out."
Tee-hee. :3 read more

Over at Kotaku's sister car blog, Jalopnik, they've got some news on Forza Motorsport 3. Why they put the news there, I don't know. Maybe Crecente is a racing game-hater. For his sake, I hope he's not.
The article talks about new info that Turn 10 has announced concerning Forza 3, which includes an official partial car list and the first officially confirmed track, the Circuit de la Sarthe in France, home to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Consider the announcement of this intentional because the 2009 24 Hours of Le Mans just finished up this weekend, with one of the announced cars - the Peugeot Sport 908 - having actually been the race winner.
Of course, they fail miserably in their write up, stating "Previously the only way you could act out your French endurance dreams was by going to the Playstation-based series, Gran Turismo" and completely negelcting the fact that the 24 Hours of Le Mans was the season-ending race in Codemaster's GRID. Or that Sega and Konami made arcade games based on the race in the 1980s. Or that there are several PC games with the track. Or that Gran Turismo 4 was the only game in the series that even allowed you to race on the Circuit de la Sarthe.
But I digress. That's just a small issue. What's more important is that they've announced the Circuit de la Sarthe is in the game and gave us a list of cars as well. It's just a partial list and really doesn't have any surprises ... well, except for one that I've highlighted in the list below:
Road Cars:
Alfa Romeo 8C

Aston Martin DB5 Vantage
Audi R8 4.2L V8

Monday's here, and that can only mean one thing: What'd You Get? is back! Yes, folks, the C-Blog feature (that should probably be on the front page in some shape or form *hinthintnudgenudge* :p) has returned so you can tell us all the cool things you've picked up this past week. And maybe if you want, what you plan on buying this week. Even if it's Let's Catch. Go on, we won't judge you, and I am totally not lying.
Honestly.
Seriously.
Maybe.
Well, in a slight break from the norm: I bought something. Yes. I had a bunch of extra Microsoft Points sitting around that I had no idea what to do with, so I bought a game with them, just a little title:
And it's sooooooo much fun. :3 Plus, it doesn't delete my saves like my copy of Gunstar Super Heroes randomly does. Yay!
So Gunstar Heroes on Xbox Live Arcade was it for me this week, meaning I can switch out the game I have stuck in my DS' GBA slot finally. What'd all of you get, Dtoid Nation? read more
