About

Started gaming in kindergarten, when the most advanced piece of hardware I could get my hands on was a black plastic handle and an orange button attached to a brick. I used it to blow up little squares on a black and white television screen. A couple years later, I was molested by the girl next door after beating her copy of The Legend of Zelda. I have mixed feelings about the experience.

Unfortunately, over the years, my ability to maintain a passion for games has waned (as in being able to play through them start-to-finish). This is due to various reasons and issues that would be too emo to get into at this juncture. But suffice to say, though my passion has waned, my interest in them has not, as evidenced by my being here.

Nihil (or Nils) is the pseudonym I currently use for writing and gaming on the internet. I came across the Destructoid website by searching for information on Way of the Samurai 3. Tubatic pretty much has the most comprehensive coverage on it I've seen anywhere. And for that, and the other thing, I thank him.

It's a good game, btw.

So... What's up?

Mhmm. Mhmm.

Yeah? That's good to hear. Wait. You put what in the where now? Oh man, that must have tingled. I should try it sometime. Delicious viscera.

There be some CHANGES up in here that I only caught wind of since I've been off in the land of Not-The-Internet. I heard about Andy's mighty boner finally stretching across the continental United States - Casting a phallic shadow of doom over corn crops in Nebraska. Those poor, clueless farmers.

On a similar thing of note, there's been quite a few bloggers showing their untainted faces in the forums, which I am glad about. Always warms my innards to a temperature that is higher than usual when I see members getting entangled in more places on here. Then again, those badges are pretty enticing. Gotta whore 'em all, or something. Also, seeing new writers and veteran staffs getting the grayscale avatar treatment is neat.

Frontpage facelifts like whoa. I'm digging it, well done, gentlemen! Almost makes me want to brave Betatoid, even after last year's trauma... *shudder* I'd love to get into the Fight system, but not too big on the supported games. Still waiting on the next VF. If that ever happens...

What have I been up to? Nah, you don't wanna know. Oh, stop it. Really? Well alright then...

SO-CIAL NEWS

That's right, buddy. Last year, my avatar went in my stead. The lil' bastard... Getting free drinks and booty. I told Elsa not to let him out of his box, but no one listens. However, this year, in a surprisingly fortunate turn of events, I'm going instead of my avatar. NOW ZOIDBERG IS THE POPULAR ONE!

HAHAHAHA*ahem*

Many thanks to Allen P for the heads-up on the sweet plane ticket deal, and to Knutaf for offering a port in the oncoming storm of awesome and perhaps flatulence? Hopefully more the former than the latter. Get hype, bitches. GET HYPE!

I have been networking, socially. In a social sense, even. Kinda. I'm on the internet, basically in more than one place. Which feels weird and not at all what I had in mind for what I would be doing this summer. But hey, when life gives you networks, make socialade or something. That was retarded.

I have a twitter, which I semi(fully)-neglect and probably shouldn't because it's a great way to get news and friend updates stuff streamed in columns all convenient-like. You may follow it if that's a thing that you do. Just know that I mostly follow those who lock their tweets like a Paranoid Peter, and the rest of ya go on THE LIST.

I like lists. They are so convenient. So clean.

Also booking faces and plusing googles - All of which you can hit up in the sidebar. I'm not gonna say I'm kind of a big deal, so I won't.

But I am, kinda. Maybe. I text people. They text back. Whatever.

Anyway, I'm feelin' good today. I haven't even gotten into grandpa's medicine yet. How are you? Sweet. Wanna talk about vidjagaemz?

SO-LO NEWS

Started playing Costume Quest. Loved it for a few hours. Put it down. Haven't been able to pick it back up... FAIL. I think TEH may have ruined RPG's for me, because after hearing that, I definitely started feeling the repetition of it all. But that won't make me regret declaring that I SWEAR ON MY... EVENTUAL LUNG CANCER THAT I WILL PLAY AND BEAT COSTUME QUEST BY NEXT MONTH.

ALSO REPLAY AND BEAT DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS BY NEXT MONTH.

ALSO PLAY AND BEAT PORTAL AND OR PORTAL 2 EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE NOT RPG'S BUT I WANT TO FEEL LIKE A BOSS AFTER HAVING BEAT THEM.

AND ALSO BEAT THE LAST LIGHT WORLD LEVEL OF SUPER MEAT BOY BECAUSE I WANT THAT AVATAR AWARD YOU SON OF A BITCH BISON.

FUCK YOU.

Oh, also played the demo for Ms Splosion. It's sick. And dank. Bro. Check it.

Tasty giblets.

MUL-TI NEWS

Yeaaaah a little late to the party on this one, but I finally got to playing Castle Crashers. Pretty much all the fun I had heard and was expecting is there. Much quaffing was had. Really wanna FNF this bitch sometime soon.

Spiral Knights on Steam was brought to my attention by lil ms Mollygos, and I've suddenly found it oddly alluring. Or just too adorable to not come back to every so often. Solid dungeon crawling. So, up for that if anyone else wants to kick it on there sometime.

Finally, yes, WoW is still a thing I do. Poorly. At least until the 24th. Check out the forum thread for updates if it is also a thing that you do. Seems I've sparked a little bit of life in that old girl.

Yeeesssss. It's all part of the plaaannnn....

TOTALLY RELEVANT AND HIP NEWS AND STUFF

Scott Pilgrim vs.The World happened last year, and being the nonconformist that I am, I was all nonchalant and was like, "Scott Who? Pff. Whatevs. I'll see it when I see it." And didn't see it. So I just now got around to renting it.

Boy. That was really fucking dumb of me.

Not the renting it part; the whole not seeing it in theaters part.

But whatever, it was definitely worth finally getting to, because it is indeed a pretty great movie. I've been an Edgar Wright fan since Shaun and Hot Fuzz, but I didn't think he'd have much of his stamp on this since it wasn't an OP. Again, couldn't have been more wrong. Having recently watched Spaced on Hulu, it was fun re-watching and picking apart all the Edgar Wright-isms. It's practically masterful; the clever timing and references, the slick transitions, and the later action sequences are a fucking spectacle to behold. Not just the SFX, but the picture and cinematography looks crotch-grabbingly gorgeous - and I'm saying this just for the dvd on a laptop, nevermind blu-ray. So damn good...

Of course, both the score and soundtrack are pretty amazing as well. Not much else to say there.

As for the movie itself, favorite bits include Bass Battle, Wallace, Lucas Lee, Knives, more Wallace, the weirdest fucking cameos ever, Crash and the Boys... And I have to say it has a couple of the best Um's I've witnessed in recent memory. I'd also have to agree that this is the least "Michael Cera" Michael Cera has been.

This is prolly all old news to you, so I'll just skip the least favorite bits. Also my eyes feel like they're about to spontaneously combust. So that wraps up a super-overdue blog from me.

See you on the flip, kids!

fuck yeah nihil
Dtoid has changed a heap lately, it seems things might end up being a lot like the troubled 'Beta' edition except spread out over months instead of days. Seems to have helped iron out the bugs. Good or bad its here to stay this time!

Also shame on you for missing out on Scott Pilgrim at the theatres. It's the sort of flick you can go for years without seeing another of its worth. I'd like to think it'll be remembered and studied by film makers for years to come, box office success be damned.

I suppose you can be forgiven this time, but only because you're a rad dude.
So much winning here, not the least of which is Nils showing his face around for the first time in a while!

- I'm glad I just beat Bastino, so I can listen to that podcast. (bastino was so good). If they're going to complain about repetition, I find it a little weird, because the game is not really long enough for that to really settle in, and they give you a lot of tools to switch up your playing style.

- we should totally ms. splode together some time. that could be pretty fun

- I totally don't regret seeing Scott Pilgrim in theaters. The video game is pretty fun, too, but can be really unforgiving at times.

- you better beat the portals before pax, because people are inevitably going to spoil them and talk about them. fair warning!

get on your xbox more, yo, so we can hit up halo. see you in a mere matter of weeks!
Nihil is going to be at PAX? AWESOME!!!!

Sadly, it doesn't seem like it will be the same as last year. There was a function pretty much every night and it was easy to meet up with Dtoiders. Because of some issues last year, it doesn't seem like this will happen again this year so I guess it's up to individuals to organize meet ups with other Dtoiders... which can be a bit difficult. I do hope they have the dress up thing on Saturday night this year... but nothings been mentioned so far. Still... I do hope to meet you!!!
I'm still waiting on VF5 Ultimate Edition with all the Arcade upgrades. Why do you torture us Sega? WHY????
Costume Quest is so adorable, I couldn't put it down despite the repetitiveness. It's a pretty quick game too so plug a few more hours in and I'm sure you'll be done soon. If you liked the Scott Pilgrim movie, you should def check out the comics. They're hilarious.
BLOG MORE DOUCHEBAG
What up PAX Roommate!
@enigma: Aw, thanks man.

@knutaf: I know, I've been leaving my xbox in the cold as of late... Totally gonna rectify that in the super-near future and I'm definitely willing to throw down points on ms splosion and a couple other things I've been looking at.

@Elsa: Suiturday, I believe it's called. Yeah, it's unfortunate- from what I gather, the events of last year have inadvertently put this year's plans in disarray. But I'm sure things will get worked out; people will have a good time, regardless. I wanna go on the ride my avy took last year!

@manasteel88: I wish I was frustrated enough to write them angry letters, but that would just slow them down in working on whatever it is that they are working on. If they are, in fact, working on anythin. The fuckers.

@Caiters: Funny you mention the comic, 'cause I went into B&N today and read half of the first volume. So far I think I'm going to prefer the movie, because pretty much the only bits I've laughed at so far were the ones that they kept in the movie. And I'm not entirely sure if they're funny on their own, or if it's because I recognize them from the movie. It's interesting seeing all the in-between moments that were left out of the movie, but at this point (which isn't far along at all, but still) the comic is kinda boring to me... I'll read up to volume three to see if I feel the rest of it is worth it.

@Andy: OKAY

SHEESH

@Law: You're crashing there too? Schweeeet =D
No @ for me Nihil.

You've changed bro.

:(
@Aurain: It was a test, my irreplaceable regal ursine....

Also, I think it should be noted in light blue sharpie that I still don't know why you guys fap this nonsense.
@Nihil

"Also, I think it should be noted in light blue sharpie that I still don't know why you guys fap this nonsense."

Answered your own question :)
Haha. True story.
Fapped to this nonsense.
You'll warm up to the comics - there's more substance, and more reason behind why the characters act the way they do. Also a lot more jokes.
