About

Started gaming in kindergarten, when the most advanced piece of hardware I could get my hands on was a black plastic handle and an orange button attached to a brick. I used it to blow up little squares on a black and white television screen. A couple years later, I was molested by the girl next door after beating her copy of The Legend of Zelda. I have mixed feelings about the experience.

Unfortunately, over the years, my ability to maintain a passion for games has waned (as in being able to play through them start-to-finish). This is due to various reasons and issues that would be too emo to get into at this juncture. But suffice to say, though my passion has waned, my interest in them has not, as evidenced by my being here.

Nihil (or Nils) is the pseudonym I currently use for writing and gaming on the internet. I came across the Destructoid website by searching for information on Way of the Samurai 3. Tubatic pretty much has the most comprehensive coverage on it I've seen anywhere. And for that, and the other thing, I thank him.

It's a good game, btw.

GOOD NEWS

DTOID Chopper 5 killing The Escapist's pussy-ass news van.

I recently purchased a fresh, bare-bones, Xbox slim. The next step, of course, would be installing a bigger hard drive, since I like to play arcade games and demos. But I didn't wanna buy a new one because I already had the one in my ringed elite with all my data and still 20gigs of free space. Since you can't fit the HDD case of an original model 360 onto a slim, I wanted to find a way to get the drive out of the old 360 and into the slim. So, as usual, I consult the wonderful world wide interweb about this matter.

ENTER YOUTUBE

I knew someone, somewhere, geek or not, would have put up a tutorial video about this very thing, since I couldn't possibly be alone in this dilemma. The more technical, practical, unnecessarily longer videos tell you that the process requires you to buy a torque wrench if you don't already have one. I didn't, but then I came across this gem, which is much more up my alley and doesn't cost a dime.

And so, it was time to gather my tools,

And have some fun.

Cracking the outer shell is the easy part, but the actual HD is still encased in a flimsy metallic material that I forget the name of, since it's been a good while that I've studied electronics.

My progress was impeded by the casing being attached to the HD by more torque screws, so simply cutting it out wasn't going to work and the prospect of having to buy a torque wrench after all crept back into the equation...

So I sat on my bed, pondering it over as I watched Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo on AMC, which felt super fucking appropriate for the moment...

It took a few minutes for me to realize that all it took was bending the protruding/excess metal til it broke off of the sides like peanut brittle,

And then maybe hope the metal wouldn't overheat the HD while inside the port, because science or whatever.

But it slipped right into the port like they said it would, and with the exception of a few items that didn't seem to make the transfer, it works fine for the time being.

We back in business, mofos.

It won't be long before I'll be able to get a gold subscription back up and running, and I'm looking at a time frame of this or next week when I can join in a FNF, but definitely by the time Borderlands 2 hits, since that's the next big thing coming up, and gosh darn it, I'm tired of living in my backlog.

I've been purging my library of games that I know I won't finish and selling them at Gamestop (I know, I know) to knock off the price for games that I've been eye-balling a while now; specifically Max Payne 3 and Dark Souls. Since they don't take past generation games anymore, I feel it'll be soon that I put the rest of my collection from my gaming career up for grabs, for those who appreciate the true merits of retro gaming. I know you're out there. And I ain't mad at ya.

Well, that's what's been going on with me, besides inching closer to selling my dying car for a motorcycle.

Sup?

That second picture of your face made me do a spit take motherfucker. Glad you are back in the saddle and doing alright. We missed you at PAX this year buddy. Smoke a Lucky Strike for me.
Yeah... That was weird. Sorry man.
Yeah, I did the same thing a while back, and just bought an off-brand casing for the drive. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay what Microsoft wants for a new Slim drive.
@Nihil

Just one of these is perfect:

Also, the main blogs list says this story has 172 comments. I disagree with the main blogs list.
