A long time ago the idea was proposed to start up a Destructoid Radio station online that would presumably play nothing but kick-ass commercial-free video game music 24/7 online. We're experimenting with a widget from Seeqpod to provide something like this today -- there's a little something in there for everyone, I think. Original game soundtracks, remixes, chiptunes, arrangements from all kinds of modern and retro games. We've also included material from notable game musicians like Dale North, The One Ups, and Dale North .... ok, ok, also The Minibosses, Video Games Live, Vertexguy, Koji Kondo, Hip Tanaka, DJ Pretzel, and a ton of others.
LAUNCH THE EXPERIMENT WIDGET THING NOW and let us know what you think in the comments below!

I know we're not like, good pals or even acquaintances. However, you bringing this radio station in at a time when I'm writing some big papers and need some nice instrumental music could come at NO BETTER TIME. Thanks.

I think theres a pretty good list. Scanning through right now I see a lot of games and musical genres represented. Thats a good thing. I think variety is key here.

Also, do you think us Dtoiders who make music will be able to get some songs of our own up there (with approval of course)?
Is it all going to be strictly video game remixes or just music that the staff deems awesome?
That's it.

Some other nice ideas would be to let people request/vote on the next track which will be played and a shoutcast compatible stream for people who prefer to use their own music player, you can use multiple quality settings for the shoutcast servers off course and there is quite a decent open source shoutcast compatible server called icecast.

If there's any way to make this player channel based, that would be helpful to avoid super scrolling. Like a Zelda channel, a Katamari channel, a Reader Podcast channel, etc. And one last suggestion: can you add a number of listens number? Would be a cool way to find new stuff by checking out what others are listening to the most. I'll probably end up listening to them all in one night anyways tho...

Any chance of offering it as a downloadable PLS file (or something similar)? Not sure about other people but I'd much rather listen to internet radio through winamp or media player than my browser. Sure it'd just be a stream that, like a real radio station, you couldn't pause or select tracks on, but personally I like that sort of thing. ^_^

There should be a way to vote on songs, and then each week you can make a top 10,20,etc. list people can listen to.
and songs that get votes of 90%+ fail you can get rid of. :cough busta cough:
i know this probably isn't do-able until you make your own, but it's a great idea, and should definitely be brought through.

Friend-of-Destructoid CheapyD has some decent songs, but one that should definitely be on here is his Tetris remix Ass & Tetris (You Forgot Poland).
I also think that some of the songs from Starmen.net's Rock Candy series should be on here. Rock Candy is 100% fan-made music inspired by the Earthbound/Mother series of games. The songs are of varying quality, but most are surprisingly good. One that has always stuck with me is the rap song "UrfBownd," which is the final track on the first Rock Candy Album. Further, Starmen.net has a pretty complete collection of other fan music and chip tunes, but the real gems are mostly in the Rock Candy albums.
Otherwise, I KILL PXLS is a must. I've also been enjoying The Depreciation Guild's free album In Her Gentle Jaws, which is very video game-inspired and surprisingly good for the genre.

Requests:
Could we get some Mark DeNardo on the list? If I could pick just one, it'd be poulenc.
Nitpicks:
It looks generic when you imbed it to Myspace, but it sounds like you're making your own, so I'm sure that will be addressed. As it stands, when you imbed it, it doessn't say Destructoid anywhere on it.
I get a flash error when I click on some songs to play them, but if I use the skip buttons it wokrs fine.
