While I have a lot of respect for Naughty Dog, I honestly didn't expect to like this game at all. I'd seen it at a few press events and played it for a few minutes here and there to get a feel for the play control mechanics, but I never really paid too much attention to it and had all but written it off as a
Tomb Raider clone with a dude as a protagonist. I typically don't pick up 3rd person shooter adventures and thought I wasn't going to get into it anyway. I also hate games with names that have semicolons, asterisks, and punctuation marks -- a pet peeve of mine.
Fester's Quest? Fuck you.
Avatar: The Last Airbender? Cuntish.
But holy fuck, was I was way wrong. I need to come clean on this.
Luckily Colette had picked up the demo and we took a stab at it last night -- my expectations were so low that I was all but completely blown away by how much fun it was. I played the demo through all the way in Normal and was really impressed by the enemy AI (they don't run into the open much, if you connect a shot they immediately hide elsewhere) and the play control is spot on: easy to take cover and react as well as switch shoulders on the gun. I also was expecting the lead to be more on the goofy side but they pulled off believable characters that are fun to watch like an old Harrison Ford movie that didn't suck. I haven't purchased many PS3 games because I'm so picky about next-gen games, but this is one I actually can't wait to finish post Thanksgiving glut.
I really don't want to jump on the whole
Ass Creed hate bandwagon, but I found myself way more entertained by this one than Ubi's game. I would have never guessed that in a million years.
Pitfall, Icco, Tomb Raider, & Gears O War.
( IMO )
This game is much better than Assassin's Creed
( Gameplay Wise )
I'm having the best time I've ever had on my PS3!
Awww...No D-toid love coming from Naughty Dog?
Anyway, I bet the review will be worth the wait. Unless Rev Ant gets his hands on a copy. Just Kidding!
Will you guys be playing with DualShock3's or Sixaxis controllers?
If you can afford to waste that kind of money, then go and get one. But if it's a serious investment, wait for another price drop in a year or so. You're not missing much, that much I can tell you. There is some decent DLC games and shit, but that's about it. Ratchet and Clank is a good game, but not worth spending 400 for. Maybe this game will be worth it.
Whoa, you're so excited about this that you can't even speak!
Ah, you know I'm just kidding.
Okay, so you can't talk and I don't know how to use punctuation. Duly noted.
I have to say I'm intrigued by the whole thing. But especially the shoulders. Such broad, masculines shoulders...

I'm loving all this immersive, "no HUD" stuff that's coming out lately. :D
As of last night I have my 120 stars. Now to play this or Mass Effect.
i played the demo and was quite impressed. i think it takes a little too much to kill someone, but maybe this game is actually more correct. my only complaint was the jungle looks very clean. but then again, i don't want this game to get bundled with the 'brown' crowd.
Also: i love tomb raider so i've been pretty optimistic about this game. :-) I'm glad its got some neiro approval.
Its ps3 only i presume :(
Sony, you're on the road to redemption. Now just try not to screw it up.
