About
Hi, I started Destructoid. Ever heard of it?

Destructoid used to be my tiny personal blog on the web, and now it's grown into this crazy monstrosity of a gaming community. Needless to say, I'm proud of what we've done and optimistic we can do a whole lot more. I've been at this with all my heart since 2006. I really love what I do, and hope you enjoy our writers' work.

Left to right: Me, Jim, Rey, Dale, Conrad.

You can learn about the history of Destructoid on Wikipedia, there's a pretty nice article about some of the things we've done in both editorial and charity work.

http://www.wikipedia.com/wiki/destructoid

As for me, I'm pretty busy working on the future version of our site most of the time, so unfortunately I don't get to write as much as I would enjoy doing. I do go outside sometimes. The best thing I've ever done is volunteer. I didn't mean to dress like Luigi, it just kinda happened.

My primary job now as publisher is to keep the editorial team happy and build new features for you guys, our readers. I'm also one of the site's front-end programmers, so I'm always doing stuff behind the scenes. It's a lot of fun for me to switch jobs around the company and do a little bit of everything. I draw inspiration from a few places you may have heard of:

Thanks for checking out my blog today! I realize you have many kitten web sites to visit today, so I appreciate you strolling through my site and supporting what we do.

Help us make the site even better by voting on ideas at http://destructoid.uservoice.com and submitting your own!

Pictured: the current cblogs system without any css. Amazing what a little visual formatting can do, right?

Anyway, I'm talking more than a facelift. I want to fundamentally change the way our blogging system works and show you a demo of whatever I cook up this week at PAX. Have at me!

work in progress...

First off obviously would be EMBED functionality again.

Follow that with a little word wrapping. Because I likes to put images wherever I want.
Previewing without actually having it stuck on a fixed publish time stamp would be nice.

Oh, and text alignment. It's amazing how much I missed putting captions centered on images.
Definitely be able to set a publish time. That was one of the things that new destructoid did correctly.
Embedding.

There was a feature I missed from newDestructoid way back when. Damn my memory!
I'm going to put a vote toward setting a publish time and word wrapping.
A few things I'd like:

- Being able to change/edit the publishing date (within reason).
- Easy multi-tagging of posts
- Evolving list of blog tags
- Expanded tags

Thanks for the input call!
Please, please, PLEASE include like you had in the "new" Destructoid . . . MULTIPLE PICTURE uploads at once, instead of the one at a time method! <3
I second StriderHoang's first notion. I want to be able to safe a draft or preview it without it actually locking in a publish time. I would rather not have to go do other things only to come back and finish my blog and have it published to the second page. :P
Copy pasta'd from Twitter
Is there a way to change the way the time stamp works? Ie. No timer on how long blogs were first started.
Either that or give me the ability to delete blogs...which I create drafts of because of the time stamp.
Hate to sound like a downer at all the time and effort you guys put into these things, but all I've wanted for quite awhile is a unified site design/aesthetic and bbcode functionality back (like the forums or how the cblogs used to be). Obviously bigger and better things would be great, but it would be REALLY nice to have the former finally put in and the latter back.
I agree about the publish time thing. Sometimes I start writing but don't finish for a day or two. Right now the only way i keep from getting buried is by writing it first then copy/paste it into a new blog.
The timestamp thing would be awesome. Sometimes I write blogs for hours and when I publish they're down the list a bit more because of the preview function.

Another nice addition (if this doesn't already exist) would be the ability to make a jump for larger blog posts, much like the front page posts. That way when looking at my blogs from the main url (ie: destructoid.com/blogs/swishiee), you'll see shortened versions, and you can see the whole thing by clicking the jump or blog title.

Plus the return of at least the YouTube embedding.
I'll have what they're having boss.

Also, it would be super slick if the interface had find / replace formatting. You know, for updating game titles to italics and what not.

Shoot. While I'm dreamin big, it would be superfly if my cblog editor could grep Dtoid for recently relevant articles. How super fly would it be for sweet journalisms if cblog editor suggested reference links!?

I mean, if you guys got some spare time on your hands :D. Love you guys!
Also, I second Scotty. I love the new site design, but I wish that changes would be applied to the entire site, not just certain areas.
^
That.

But in all seriousness, I do miss embedding.
Embedding and fixing the timestamp issue would be awesome. The word wrapping would be a nice little added feature, as well.
Notifications on @replies in comments would be awesome. Also, notifications when people leave comments (if that doesn't exist?) It would really help me keep track of how people are replying, to the things I'm saying as I don't always remember to check back.
Embed and the time stamps. Thank you for listening.
Embed and timestamps! <3
I want the ability to schedule posts for a future date.
... what others have said, but one concern I would have is the "breaking" of the existing blogs. I like my previous "collection" of blog I wrote and hope they remain accessible and readable.
Multiple image uploads at once, embedding, and if possible, alt text/tooltips/whatever you call that text that appears when you hover over an image. Wouldn't mind the publish time thing some have asked for, but I usually do mine up in notepad and paste them in anyway.
The group thing is coming back? I really didn't like the first time around, because it kinda divided the blog posts, and the whole general community area was quite confusing.
I like how the posts are displayed now, I hope that structure doesn't change.

Oh the others said it as well if not better than I could so here's a picture of some nachos cause that sounds delicious right now.

I'd like video embedding back. That's really the only feature I miss.
Please bring back the old blog front page sidebar where only the blogs that have been fappped appear on the main page.
I miss being able to sort blogs by most popular. It was a great way to come back and hit up the highlights if you missed a few days of this fast-paced blogging world. That being said, I do really, really enjoy the promoted blogs floating up on the top of the C-blog section.
Is there a way to see every person who fapped a blog? (particularly your own, obviously). Right now I can only see one person who fapped, and it's always the same one. An option to expand "Those who have fapped" to show a full list would be much appreciated. Or am I just an idiot who has overlooked it for all this time?

Oh, that and the timestamp thing.
Goddamn it those nacho look good... What was this about, again?

Oh right. A cleaner way to sort through hidden/shown blogs would be cool. Probably a big fix for a little thing, but I'd really appreciate it.
1. Ability to use HTML and CSS to write blogs, not stupid BBCode. If we can use Javascript, I'll find some way to carry your offspring, too. At the very least, I'd love to be able to use the "id" attribute, so I can add anchors in my blog post URLs.

2. Multi-image upload.

3. Scheduling of when the post "goes live"
Text wrapping and improved or simplified picture embedding. I would also love a auto-save feature, and a speedier way to preview how it will look when done :)
2 Big things.

Time stamp based on when you post, not when you start your blog. As well as making the editor a Wysiwyg.
Time-stamp fix, like many have said. As well as multi-image uploads. (With HTML5 Drag&Drop, maybe? Love that in Picasa.)

Also, easier tagging. I mean, why can't I define my own tags? Yes, I'll gladly use your current selection, but I'd like to also make my own tags. And use multiple tags.
Ooh. Is the group function gonna work how I suggested? That'd be spiff.
We're really looking forward to dropping BBCode. It's a pain in the ass to work with and it's like going back in time don't you guys think?

I'm looking forward to implementing a WYSIWYG (like on the beta.destructoid ).
