I've been a pretty huge supporter of the
God of War series from day one. While managing a videogame retail store a few years back, I received a demo of the first game prior to its release. After playing through the demo (which consisted of the game's epic beginning Hydra battle), I became that guy you hate -- you know, the dude at the gaming shop who demands you play and/or reserve a title. That title, of course, was
God of War. I was just doing a service ... for the people, as they say.
When
Destructoid reviewed God of War II, we lavished it with praise. I gave the game a 9 out of 10. Even Anthony -- who kicks puppies and smashes SNES games with hammers -- enjoyed the title.
I played
God of War: Chains of Olympus, Kratos new PSP adventure, at Tokyo Game Show last year. It was divine, and a mighty impressive feat for the handheld. I looked for the article, but our search hates me.
Now the game has gone gold, and
the first review is in --
Game Informer has given the game a 9 out of 10. Why? Who knows. Haven't read it yet. But I'm sure the story goes as such: it's the
God of War you've come to know and love, just made pocket-sized for the PlayStation Portable. Ready At Dawn have once again proven that they can take an existing franchise and give it a life and color of its own.
Knowing that other gaming outlets have received preview/review builds of the game (some of which have traffic/readership that doesn't even touch ours), I asked Sony: "Where's Destructoid's?" Their response? They're going to make sure we get one when the game ships in March. Well then. That kind of stings a bit.
Note: We never received a review copy of one of last year's premiere PS3 games,
Uncharted. Crazy, right? You know, God forbid we were to want to give you guys varied, timely coverage of as many games on as many platforms as possible. Sheesh.
I think the point of this blog is that I'm definitely going to be buying a copy of
God of War: Chains of Olympus when it comes out, because I'm hoping it's going to be as awesome as I want it to be. Who's with me?
Don't say that about SNES games Nick, even in joking.
i have a birthday coming up soon, maybe ill get one then.
