Our very own Aaron Linde is doing his thing on the main page, taking reins of the live blogging duty here at Nintendo's press conference. Me? I'm the photo bitch. I'm going to chime in over here when I get a chance.
What's going to happen? Will they announce a new Brain Age? OMG! WHO KNOWS!
8:57AM
Still sitting here, waiting for the conference proper to start. Niero was just approached by what I believe to be a Nintendo A/V peep who is letting us know that they will be focusing on OUR section, because they're digging the Dtoid outfit.
9:01AM
The people seated in front of us were definitely just moved to the side so better pictures of Mr. Destructoid could be taken. Ooooh ... it's about to start.
9:02AM
A video, played across three large screens, is being shown. It's basically Nintendo patting themselves on the back, a nice montage of Wii/DS back-patting found in the media.
9:05AM
Reggie is on stage. He starts off by introducing himself and then mentioning that he's happy. No names are taken. Now he's going on about the growth of the videogame market; this, he says, is not possible by simply focusing on the core gamer, but rather by expanding the market.
69% percent of all industry growth is due to Nintendo -- there are pretty charts and graphs to back this up.
I just noted a pedestal on the stage; there's something sitting on it, but I can't really tell what. Maybe it's a Wii redesign. It's about time for one of those, right? KIDDING.
9:11AM
Still talking about how the market is expanding, particularly due to Nintendo. "The Nintendo DS might be the beacon that is lighting the way to the future of the entire gaming industry." This is in the context of talking about how it's attracting and older audience, as well as females.
I swear, Reggie just said a lot of soccer moms play the Wii. I can't make this stuff up.
9:14AM
Reggie's addressing the talk of the Wii and the DS, how it brings in casual gamers, as being a fad. He's justifying it NOT being a fad by talking about the out of control sales numbers. "The Wii is poised to become the #1, worldwide, in this generation very soon. The reality is this -- Nintendo is not a fad. Nintendo is a future."
The dev community is responding accordingly, Reggie says. There will be 140 new titles between now and the end of the year for the DS; 100 new games for the Wii by year's end (North America).
More video of stuff you could find on YouTube is being shown ... only it's on three really large screens. So this is really exciting. No, really.
HOLY SHIT. THEY JUST FLASHED ME ALL OVER THE GOD DAMN SCREEN. SWEAR TO GOD.
9:20AM
OMG. OK, moving on. They're showing the Wii Zapper -- it will work with Umbrella Chronicles which actually looks pretty good. It will also work with Ghost Squad. Reggie says this is going to revolutionized shooters (he references FPSes) like the Wii remote did.
The Wii Zapper will be bundled with the system ... it will also be available at retail for $19.99.
Did I mention Dtoid and MY FACE was shown on the screens? No, seriously.
He's going on about new DS/Wii titles, third-party: Dragon Quests Swords, Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, Sonic/Mario Olympics. Smash Bros. hits on December 3rd -- excited?
The Web site, Hylia.com is being featured. *shrug* I'm not familiar with them, but they sure do like Nintendo games.
9:26AM
Mike from Hylia.com is going to demo Phantom Hourglass, live. The thing on the pedestal I mentioned earlier? Just a DS demo. Nothing to see here; move along.
9:31AM
Metroid Prime Corruption was also just demoed live, this time by the blond, Jackie, from Hylia.com. It looks good. You've seen Metroid Prime 3 before, right?
I swear to God, it's more YouTube videos and clips from the media about how Nintendo is totally awesome. Nintendo are serious about games; if these YouTube videos don't make that point, then I don't know what does. :D
Reggie just announced a new Wii Channel, "Check Mii Out." You can upload your Miis, have people vote on them, contests based on celebrity likenesses.
9:36AM
Will Nintendo get serious about online games? Reggie says they already have! Pokemon Battle Revolution! Also, Mario Strikers Charged. Reggie says we want more, so he introduces the third-party EA Sports titles, Madden 08 and FIFA 08. Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker will also be available online.
GUITAR HERO III for the Wii! "Rock into the Wii hours." He mentions the "exclusive, wireless Les Paul controller." Isn't that also available on other systems? You can play it online, baby.
Mario Kart Wii, first quarter -- online. He's showing off a custom Wii wheel that works with the game. My camera just died. TOTAL FAIL.
More media clips, this time of old people playing Brain Age and the Nintendo DS Lite. Cheapy D was just featured prominently. So was some guy named Robert Summa. :D
9:43AM
Iwata is on stage. He too, is talking about Nintendo is awesome. :P My camera battery died, so I'm going to shut down my laptop. Have to save juice for the Sony presser. Go read Linde's live blog on the main page.
<3,
Nick

And that R.O.B. is Wii compatible. It'll justify why I held onto my complete gyromite kit for the last 22 years.
I came.
