Jinx Clothing Sale
Nessie | 5:24 PM on 03.26.2008 7 comments

For those that may be interested, Jinx is having a Sale on all Tshirts and Sweatshirts for the next 3 days! :)

Check it out~

They also sell those nifty official World of Warcraft shirts. I have the Women's Priest class shirt - and it has to be the most comfortable T shirt I own!

They have all sorts of geekery shirts, maybe the sun is trying to kill you? Could your choice of weapon be the Intellivision or the D20?

Is it time to reach into the Rainy Day Money to buy Volcano Insurance or some Jinx shirts?! You decide!

There's no Air?!
Nessie | 11:23 AM on 03.25.2008 8 comments

So. Boyfriend left his Warcraft3 open so I decided to hop on and play some TDs and whatnot. It's probably been more than a year since I bad-touched any.

So I eventually find 'Element TD Public Beta 4' - "YES!" I cry out. I love Element TD!

Well, I got my ass handed to me.

Whether it's because I noobed it up or not, I still had a good time, and decided to check out the website posted on the loading screen, since it mentioned the site has strategies, and I needed a little refresher on the towers anyway. (no I didn't forget Water needs Light to turn Ice... cough)

But one thing I did notice was the uselessness of my arrow towers - there was no Air! So while browsing the site, I came across the FAQ... and this...!

WHAT !! D:

You mean they didn't just.. remove it or something!?

Everything I have ever known about Element TD was a lie! :(

PS: Now looking at old maps still on the drive, they were called "Element TD Survivor" but still! trying to relearn everything and I still haven't been able to beat all levels. It is definitely the lack of Air levels. ;(

Edit: just some info for those that may be confused or never played it:

TD = Tower Defense, a type of custom map for WarCraft3. Basically you build towers to kill the mobs that spawn before they "exit" and cause you to lose lives. ElementTD you use Towers with an element theme, like fast fire towers, you eventually get elements and you can combine them, like Fire + water can make Vapor like towers that have special abilities, etc.

ElementTD has been around quite awhile, and apparently I hadn't been playing the "official" version, and I was pretty surprised, since I always saw/joined the maps with the air levels. This is where basically the monsters that spawn are "Flying", and only certain towers could do damage to them.

Not My Turning Point Gaming Rig
Nessie | 3:44 AM on 03.21.2008 9 comments

Prepare thy eyes, for they shall bleed.

Specs:

Name: Konata
(Previous names: Ichigo, Mistress)

AMD Athlon XP 1500+, ~1.34GHz
1 GB RAM
Windows XP SP2
CD Rom drive (ancient)
4x CD Burner
120 GB Hard drive (Western Digital)
GeForce4 MX 420
SoundBlaster Audigy

Any other things I should list? I dunno anything else offhand.
If you're curious about something specific, just ask, and I'll try to find the answer. I'll do my best to give you info/history on the computer or whatever I can remember as I write this.

Backstory:

The computer in this case was put together in 2002. But a lot of it's actual components are from various sources/hand me downs/new at the time. Before this, we had an IBM computer, and it was the Family/Stay-Away-When-Nessie-Is-On-It computer before I got this one. (Well i pretty much commandeered the IBM to my room and my parents eventually got some nobrand comp from my brother)

This computer has traveled between homes (every few weeks), across states (between Maryland and NY), and as much as I hate the stupid thing, there's nothing I freak out over more than when something is wrong with it.

Pictures + etc:

The burner I got when my boyfriend upgraded to a 16X burner back in 2001.

The other CDrom is even more ancient, its from the previous IBM. It's starting to be really bad and not read certain CDs. (actually i couldn't even open it the other day, we had to push the pin in the front to force it open sigh) Pre-2000.

When i had to replace my motherboard, the fucks at Best Buy didn't bother to reconnect the USB ports/LED lights in the front. -.- (I wasn't confident enough to do it myself at the time) and yeah, still not connected due to sheer laziness/uncertainty.

This fan on top is starting to go out. It'll sometimes rev up very strangely or just make a huge racket. After taking out some dust it seems to be running more smoothly, but we haven't been able to find a replacement out of the comp graveyard :(

lolstickers. I don't even remember where I got the Sonic one, i might have got it when I was collecting the comics for awhile. I know I played some sort of Sonic game briefly at a friend's house, but i honestly don't remember which one. There's even a Sailor Moon sticker on the other side. ;(

I got a fantastic new monitor a few years ago for Christmas. it's treated me well, and I loves it. (I have a different monitor at my parent's house, but this is *my* monitor <3)
Also got an Intuos2 tablet that same christmas, that is at my parent's house currently.
PS: love my hello kitty datebook.

Vaio Speakers i stole off my dad's old work PC. I have Radioshack speakers that are awesome, but I lost the AC adapter for them :(

my boyfriend HATES my keyboard - it's way too small for him. I just have tiny hands and I sometimes have trouble with larger keyboards so I got this one off Newegg. only $10 and it's treated me well for almost 2 years. Old mouse, nothing amazing.
I have a better gaming mouse at my parent's house.
Also use a "normal" Logitech keyboard at my parent's house

First look of the insides. The motherboard isn't as old as everything else - I had to replace it when mine just crapped out. That was either in summer 2003 or 2004.

I used to have a 30GB hard drive from Maxtor that just completely died in 2006, it was the OS/Programs/whatever i dump on it Drive. (the cable for it is still loose in there if you can find it) But this 120 has been good, even going through several Windows reinstalls when I had comp troubles in late 2006.

Closer inside looks:

The soundcard I got in 2002 when this computer was being put together initially. I remember going to Best Buy and feeling awesome, especially since it came with games. (Although i never played the damn things lol) It plays sound fine but it warps the voices of some people on Ventrilo. Since I couldn't fix it, i use a USB headset for Vent, and the soundcard for other computer media.

Honestly don't remember when I got the Video card. But what can I say? It's my 5-10 FPS miracle worker. I've had amazing times, as well as a number of amazing game glitches. I was once offered an upgrade from my boyfriend when he upgraded his in January 2005, but I was incredibly stubborn at the time. (It actually had to with the beta to a game - I can't remember the name - it was an MMO where the NPCs were played by people - and I argued I didn't have to upgrade because "Mine could play WoW just fine!" Haha I'm retarded.)

Thanks for watching my epeen shrink as I share this.

I feel violated.

Hi Dtoid.
Nessie | 1:18 AM on 03.18.2008 17 comments

Never wrote a blog here before, but why not? I already whine enough in my other online journal honestly. But I don't talk about gaming much in there anyway, and if I do, nobody gives a shit. So I'll do it here, so nobody can care here either. <3

I'll post a little gaming history of myself. For lack of anything better to say D: (And this will be long and include some shops. Cause I'm pretty bored and you're the victim, now.)

It started when I was little, my older brother had the Sega Genesis and Nintendo (Which was stashed away in the closet). I had also gotten a Super Nintendo when it came out, which lovingly came with Super Mario World. (Or they bought it, but i know I had it.) My first games were Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario World (as far as i remember).

I remember when Yoshi's Cookie came out and I thought it looked SO AWESOME from the commercials! We went to Blockbuster to rent it. We always rented games, my parents never usually bought them, I have very few games in my Super Nintendo arsenal. And I wasn't game-savvy enough at the time to beat the damn things in three days. But I digress... (although they bought me all the Disney ones i think :/)

We went to get Yoshi's Cookie, and I remember looking at the cartridge and thinking 'That's regular Nintendo..' and telling my mom it was. My mom asked the teller if this would work in the Super Nintendo and the teller said Yes. But I knew otherwise when we came home it would not fit in the Super Nintendo.

Seriously. How do you fuck it up?

Nontheless, while my mom argued with the people on the phone, I grabbed the Nintendo and set it up myself on my ancient TV they had in my room. We had satellite TV but I didn't have a remote in my room, but a strange wired.. remote thing that had limited channels for me to PRESS down. (See, people, my parents found out how to hide naughty channels from me. Why the fuck can't parents do this shit now when it's even easier than before in the damn blocking options? AUGH.) Anyway, I set it up myself and played it. And joy ensued. Oddly enough thats the only Nintendo game i remember playing, I have no idea if we had any others, since the system was sold for like $10 at a garage sale when we moved years later. :/

I played many games on the Super Nintendo though. I remember playing a rented Mickey adventure game before leaving for Orlando, Florida and leaving the game in the kitchen before we left... and it was still in the kitchen when we got back. LOL late fees. I grabbed the game and continued playing it. :p

My favorite game was Mario Paint, probably. and Super Mario Kart!! Good times, good times. but Mario Paint was fucking awesome. I played that thing for glorious hours and hours of fun~ I really hope they even make a new one for the DS or consider something like it. (Yeahh theres various games that do different parts like it but... I wants my Mario Paint <3)

The first game I ever beat within the "Blockbuster rental time" was Bonkers. I used the three or four (lame) tips printed in Nintendo Power (which i was subscribed to for about 3 years) and beat the whole thing. I was so proud of myself I think I peed a little.

A game I mastered was Aladdin, though. I think I can still beat Aladdin within an hour and I know where all the Teal Gems are in the Bonus carpet level!!
But Lion King kicked my ass!! I could never get passed the damn lava level with the moving steps and shit.. and when the FUCK did Simba go through lava and kill bats anyway!? D: GAWD.

I honestly never beat the game until I found out the cheat code to choose levels and just kicked Scar's ass and got to see the ending. Awesome times.

I mainly played the SNES obviously, but I still enjoyed playing Sega Genesis too.. although we had no games except the first Sonic game.. which I still have. :) And then when I was going out with someone, he let me borrow his Sonic games to play, which was almost all of them.. and then we broke up and he never asked for them back. LOL my games now, crazy bitch. <3

My love of gaming continued when the Sony Playstation came out. The first game I had for it was Suikoden II. My family got it for me cause "it sounded japanese". (Obviously around the start of my anime days.) I loved the game so much, and I didn't get the "good ending" either so I cried when it ended. :( I restarted the game to get all the stars, but I messed up in the beginning and didn't notice til about halfway through and didn't wanna go through the whole thing a third time so I gave up.

But so began my love of RPGs, and I bought and borrowed games like FFVII, which my then-boyfriend was jealous that I was gonna beat it before him. Was thrilled to have gotten Knights of the Round as well, which helped me beat Sephiroth in some way I have no idea how. (Seriously, I tried beating the fucker so many times, and I did something and he started dying/crumbling and I was like WTF is going on?! but hell I went with it.)

I also played games like Vandal Hearts, and I found a little game called Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure when I was in a game store in Chinatown. I was in love with the pretty lady with wings on the front; and it really was an adorable game, although really short.

One of my longest affairs was with Lunar:Silver Star Story Complete. I got it cause a friend had suggested it to me. I fell in love with the game and story, and all of the characters. <3 It was so incredible, and although I didn't like the sequal as much, I still enjoyed it. (And DON'T get me started on Dragon Crapsong) The packaging of the games made them worth just buying! I still have them all neatly packed with their goodies.

anyway, i mainly played RPGs through my Playstation days. Not as much as I would've liked though. Didn't really get games as presents although I longed for them. I was a huge Sony fangirl! I remember when my boyfriend got the PS2 for christmas, and not the Xbox like he had expected. I felt devastated and was horribly jealous D: But once I got mine, i continued with RPGs, and also fell in love with Guilty Gear. To this day, Guilty Gear is still the only fighting game I really enjoy.

But with my (then - and now) boyfriend he introduced me to PC games. I'd sit and watch him play Age of Empires after school, which he played with more than me back then. (Now it's DOTA and Guild Wars =p) But I found it really cool, and got to join him in the same genre when I got Age of Mythology for my birthday and loved it!! He got the game to play with me, and I sucked pretty bad. Actually I still suck really bad at RTS games *lack of micro, hurr* but I learned the rush method with Norse, and it kicked ass! but playing with others didn't really start until I found MMOs.

Pretty sure my first was Ragnarok Online. An online friend of mine showed me it and let me play on a second account when it was still in Alpha stage in the US. I remember hordes of people sitting in Morroc and chatting in chatrooms. And Tsurugi was THE sword to have! Those were the days <3

I still played it through beta, official release, and still hop on a private server when my friends feel like dragging me into one. I win at priest class.

Other MMOs I've played are Saga of Ryzom (beta), World of Warcraft (currently unsubscribed, that money eating ho!), Guild Wars (Factions), RF Online, Trickster, Perfect World, Flyff, Ragnarok Online, and a bunch of others I probably just don't remember their names.

but I've also played games like Magestorm, Paintball, Gunbound, Warcraft III, Frozen Throne, DOTA + other WC3 maps, most recently tried Manga Fighter, which is amusing.

And through it all I've played with the same computer, with minor upgrades in the past.. gosh. six years? :/ Yeah, you can expect my Gaming Rig blog within a few days.

I'm hoping to get a hand-me-down comp within the next few months, once that person gets their new one up and running. I can't wait to use it for upcoming games like Aion <3

I've also got a LOT of love for my Nintendo DS. everything from Chocobo Tales to Nintendogs and Phoenix Wright are fucking awesome. I love this system and every game I play on it. (But DONT get me start on Dragon Crapasong <.<)

anyway i'm tired of thinking of games I've played, and of rambling on in general.
I can already think of more blogs that have more of a point to them, that should happen in the near future. or not. whatever. <3
