Dtoid Swag + Mother 3 Swag Dual Blog
Neonie | 11:13 PM on 03.28.2009 10 comments

This is a post I''ve been meaning to do for a while, first a little explanation: When Scary Womanizing Pig Mask won the swag bag on one of the Podtoids a few episodes ago, he decided to have it sent to me, which I greatly appreciate and thanked him for, even when I asked him and said I would send him anything he wanted when I got it he said "No just keep it". (Not quite in those words probably).

From Top Left: Dtoid Sticker, Dtoid Patch, Dtoid Pin, Mother 3 Guide Book, Dtoid Condom, Hand Drawn Mother 3 picture of the Princess by Mat, Starmen.net sticker (at least I think it's a sticker, I'm afraid to try and pull it off).

Close up of the epic hand drawn picture (keep in mind these pictures were taken with my sisters shitty camera phone)

Top: Part of the a CDV lanyard that also came with the Destructoid Swag bag
Bottom: Close up of the lightning bolt key chain that came with the Mother 3 handbook.

An "Also Cocks" shirt also came with the Dtoid swag, however I couldn't find it anywhere

Thanks Scary Womanizing Pig Mask, Destructoid, and Fangamer <3

Glitch Shot: Two Glitches to get your Fixes.
Neonie | 12:58 PM on 11.06.2008 9 comments

During the course of playing some games I discovered some glitches some of you may be interested in. I'll document the two (so far) glitches I've discovered below, how -I- activated them, and -I- fixed them. Activating a glitch however can be dangerous and, particularly in the case of the Fable 2 glitch, irreversible, attempt at your own risk.

Game: Mirrors Edge Demo
Glitch: Open Training Grounds.
How to do it:In order to activate this glitch, you must get past the part of the training grounds that requires you to walk across a pipe. Once you are across that pipe, you need to wall run up the wall in front of you, to the left and get up the taller wall. Your training partner should still be standing there not doing anything. At this point your free to go as far as you want in the obstacle course as you want.
How to fix it: All you need to do to fix the glitch at this point, when you've stopped having fun speed running the obstacle course (like I did) is go back past the pipe and go up the way you normally should of, this will put you back in training mode and you'll be able to finish the course like normal.

Game: Fable 2
Glitch: Glide Walk/Running
How to activate:Activating this is possibly irreversible, dangerous even. It's amusing at first but, at least to me, became an annoyance.

Go to the gargoyle in Bowerstone Graveyard, right behind the junk yard gate. Pull out a clockwork rifle (I haven't tried this in any other way and am not tempted to now that I have it fixed). Shoot the gargoyle and immediately pause the game, save and quit. What this did for me, when I logged back on I could only glide, not walk anywhere.

How to fix it: This is highly experimental, I'm honestly not sure how to fix it. I tried many thing that did not work to fix it that I won't go into. How it eventually got fixed was seeing if dieing would fix it (it did not), dieing twice and then collecting experience after the same fight however, I walked normal again. Try this at your own risk.

Late Night Lulz: Heretic is Banned for a while edition.
Neonie | 10:04 PM on 09.27.2008 47 comments

Well Heretic apparently got banned for a bit so I thought I would do a LNL post with some videos to keep his fans happy. Though I must admit I'm not way near as good of a troll as Distra-er...Heretic.

Let's start off with some of what Jim was talking about. My first video is Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged series episode 12:

My next video is a random video I found on the Youtube that I thought was pretty funny(it has it's moments):

My Next video is also Yu-Gi-Oh the abridged series, episode 18 this time:

Well that's it for LNL tonight. Mabey I'll cook something up for tommarow..mabey not. Who knows.

My Favorite Boss Battle
Neonie | 1:57 PM on 09.25.2008 12 comments

Recently Kirby Super Star Ultra was released. KSSU is a remake of Kirby Super Star for the SNES. It had one of the most brilliant boss battles I've ever partaken in, in a videogame. (SPOILER: The DS version adds words)

This is one of the best designed boss sub-boss battles (it's actually two battles, one in "The Great Cave Offensive" and one in "Milky Way Wishes", I would assume that two sub-boss battles would = One Boss battle when/if combined).

As many of you assuredly know, Kirby Super Star had many references to many other videogames.( "The Great Cave Offensive" was all about collecting objects from other videogames). This boss battle was a reference to an entire genre of videogames. Specifically RPG's.

With every hit Kirby does to an enemy set before him by the blue screen administrating the battle, it tells you exactly how much damage you did to your opponent. The top blue administration screen performs the task of telling you what action your opponent (and sometimes even Kirby) take.

You can't attack your opponent when it's there turn, so in a sense, the whole thing is still turn based. It's like fighting an RPG with more control over how much damage you do per round then most RPG's allow.

To pull it all together, it's set to one of the best, and in my opinion most memorable scores in boss or sub-boss battle history. This is by far my favorite, and in my opinion one of the most well designed battles I've ever played.

Triple Blog: Neonie, Ub3erslug, and Heretic talk about RetroforceGo!
Neonie | 7:07 PM on 06.04.2008 16 comments

This was written at 11pm the night after I had listened to episode 50. It was meant to and because it's become to long to be a comment anymore, I'm making it a blog.

RetroforceGo! Was shortened to "Retroforce" for the most part in this blog because having the word "RetroforceGo!" to many times on one web page would cause your computer to explode into thousands of dolphin shaped, pizza roll and slurppy flavored gummies.

Me, Heretic, and Ub3rslug decided to make this a triple decker blog. Originally it started out as my blog, I asked them if they wanted to contribute. So the first blog following this is mine. Heretic and Ub3erslugs blog will be after their pictures.

Heretic/Distrato of course took none of this serious so I'm posting exactly what he gave me x3.

I think I've figured out the secret to Retroforcego.
I believe the main draw is that, Retroforce as a whole, is excellent at just making people feel really good, both about them selves, and about life.

-Retroforce tingly feeling you get when you hear your favorite games theme song.

-Retroforce are the thoughts you have when you hear 8 bit music.

-Retroforce is losing a level in Megaman for the 30th time and throwing your NES/SNES controller across the room.

-Retroforce is being at peace and letting your worries slip away and being a kid again.

-Retroforce is giving your mom a dolphin statue for mothers day, because she, also, has a collection of dolphins.

-Retroforce is taking solace in the fact that you weren't the only person who spend their youth playing videogames.

-Retroforce is knowing that the 2d sprite never ages.

It goes deeper then Retro goggles and nostalgia, it goes deeper then sheer humor and laughs. It is instead the memories and childhood of not just one, not just the three/four , but an entire generation of gamers who grew up with it and made it one of the biggest parts of their lives, and I can't imagine this working with any other cast of people.

P.s.: Colette you should totally keep the Chocobo scale, it suits you perfectly.

Heretic

RetroForceGo to me means having to hear Neonie orgasim on Steam. Every Monday its the same shit, "OMG NEW RETROFORCE!! *cumcumcum*" He then abandons me to listen to it while I remain alone. Afterwards I start up my collection of My Chemical Romance MP3s and proceed with the cutting. It feels really nice and makes me remember about happier times like when I actually had a life. After crying in the fetal osition for many hours
I start fapping to images of guro lolis and shotas. Yelling at oncoming traffic is also something I do while I wait for some from of communication with others. Sometimes I'll piss someone off and they'll kick my ass. Man I love when someone beats the shit out of me it makes my fapping sessions so much more enjoyable. I do all these things because of RetroForceGo. So thank you Chad, Colette, Dyson, and Topher for making me
this way.

Ub3rslug
Retroforce is:
-Finding you’re Gold Cartridge of Ocarina of Time, only to stop whatever you were doing and finish the god damn dungeon you were stuck on as a kid.
-Realizing you’re the only one who played Chameleon Twist.
-Realizing you’re the only one who played Space Station Silicon.
-Remembering the first game you played (Aladdin on the SNES), then doubting how great it actually was.
-Naming off the special colored carts, and remembering how many you used to own.
-Starting a sentence with “Remember back in the day…”
-Walking into a store with money in your hand, and leaving with a crate full of older games and a smile on your face
-Knowing the scientific name for Brain Freeze (Sphenopalatine Ganglioneuralgia). Seriously.
-Singing along with “The Unofficial Retroforce Theme Song.” If not only to piss off Distrato (Heretic) while he tries to win at the games.
-Getting the generic battle music stuck in your head, but this only adds to the epicness of the situation you are stuck in

If you love it, Change it: Platformer+Open World.
Neonie | 9:49 AM on 05.25.2008 4 comments

For a while now I've been thinking about what I would want to see in my perfect game. I think I've got it all played out and it just happens to fit right in with this months Monthly Musings.

This is not a game that fits into any one category however, this is a game that is a two dimensional platformer and an open world game all in one. You may be thinking right now "WHAT! That' doesn't make any sense!". Let me explain it to you:

You start by taking an open world game, the one that is out at the moment that works best for this is Crackdown. If you ever stop jumping on buildings and blowing stuff up long enough to notice the art direction in the game, everything has a black outline and everything is a bit more colorful then the oh-so-common Silver and Brown games we've gotten used to lately. That black outline is key to making this work.

Now let's add some more color and make the black outline a bit thicker. What you have now is a game that SHOULD look like a cartoon or animation that you can control. I'm well aware this has been done before but for some reason the character models always seem to turn out ugly (imo), so let's assume the character models actually look good for this.

Mid-way-racap for TL:DR'ers: What we have now is an open world game with special powers/abilities/equipment that will allow them to get from roof top to roof top, a animated art style with a thick black outline necessary for making the transition from 3D to 2D.

Now when it comes to the platformer element of this game I want to say one thing: FUCK 3D CHARECTER MODLES IN PLATFORM GAMES. It didn't work for the Sonic DS games and it's not going to work here, if you have a two dimensional platformer you character models need to be drawn and colorful, now some 3D, out of place, clunky looking thing. Your sprites should look like this:

(Though not necessarily in that art style)
Not this:

This is why I went with an animated art style for the 3D dimensional portion of the game, so that way the transition from 3D to 2D would be smooth.

How you would use the 2D space in the 3D world would be simple. There would be select building tops or areas in which you would make the transition from 3D to 2D. Once in 2D you could go back to 3D at any point so long as it's not a 2D specific area (not located in the open world or on a building top, but rather for a particular mission or game goal). Some higher buildings would only be accessible by going into 2D mode and wall jumping between two higher buildings.

Both the third and second dimension will have their uses, and I think if implemented correctly it could be a very fun, unique experience.

Scratch the Dr.Boa part, I don't see how this could work with an RPG aside from character creation and customization.
