(my first review)
As games have become more advance, and three dimensional technology has come into play. It can be argued that games have become easier, more beatable, if you will. I mean, honestly, there are not a whole lot of people in this world that have actually beat the original Mario Bro's.
2D games, whereas they have become obviously less and less over the years. They have not become obsolete. No no, the true gamer knows just how much love and hate there is in playing a 2D game, and having it kick your ass. Again and again and again and again. You die, and yet you come back for more. You could play super mario for hours, and never get bored of dyeing. There is something in the experience, that you cannot put into words.
I am willing to bet someone has played threw OOT and not died ONCE. (Not on the first try though, mind you).
And then every once in a while, comes a game like Punishment 2: The Punishing. A game that is so simple, it's actually very difficult. You hop, you get to the next platform, you hit a switch, you move on. Simple right? Wrong.
After every level, you must go back, past every previous and then back up to the level you where at, and proceed to the next level, where you will repeat the process..all...over...again...
This game is not for the weak, it is not for the impatient, it is not for someone who has not spent the majority of their life playing games. This game takes supremo hand eye coordination, and both a fully concentrated and yet absent mind at the same time. Don't play if it you feel uncomftorble (have to pee) or are being distracted by some outside force, because you will not be alive for very long.
After a while of playing this game, it is crucial that you let your brain and fingers take over. You are no longer playing this game, your brain is playing this game, and you are watching as it gets killed, hops from platform to platform, and dose things you thought were not possible.
Yes it has flaws, tiny glitches here and there that make you get stuck on certain platforms. But overall, I could compare this game with some of the greatest I've played and it deserves it.
It dose not take high level graphics and an emerrsive story line to make a great game, and this game proves that. All it takes, is making you WANT it, and making you really have the will to beat it.
That's what made Super Mario so great, that's what made "The Legend of Zelda" so great. The will, the want, the need to beat the game.
(I spell checked it, but it did not give me a straight answer for some words and I think I may have made some up. But bare with me, try and comment on the review it self and not the spelling).
@ Grim
Yeah I saw that, I forgot to take a screen shot after I beat the game 8CCC. But I know I had more deaths then you, mine was like around 180 or something.
Guess not bad for my first time writing one up.
If you ever want someone to commit suicide make them play this game. I only play it on occasion because it makes me think I'm hardcore.
