My thoughts and opinions on the Community Blogs.
I believe that the fact that their called community BLOGS should already hint at some things. A blog is something that can be used for many things. Writing about ones day, starting a discussion, posting news and information, and posting your general thoughts on certain subjects. (In this case, the MAIN theme is videogame's).
1. Length: A blog can be any length. Especially depending on what the author of the blog is writing about. Maybe they don't have much to say at the moment or want to get something out there and inform the community of something without making it a huge wall of text. A simple thought.
2. Discussion: I've seen it posted that your not suppose to try and start a discussion within the community blogs. I find that confounding, as any GOOD community blog starts some sort of discussion. You shouldn't condemn people for asking questions at the end of their statement.
3. A lot of people come to Dtoid for it's unique community blogs and never touch the forums. There is a reason for that. Some people much prefer forums to the community blogs, and those people use the forums. Some people prefer the Community Bloging and that's what they like to do when they come to Dtoid.
4. There is no set of rules for what should and should not be put in the community blogs and what should be put in the forums. Because generally, in any other blogging site, people don't blog to be told they need to go to the forums. The blogs are open to everyone, they can be about anything, and can be used in anyway. There is no special criteria for using the Cblogs. That's what makes Destructoid so great, it's completely free form, and non-constricting. Let's keep it that way sha'll we?

Amen
Oh come on it's not THAT long xD. I made it as short as I could.
@Jonathan
I see people telling other people their blog belongs in the forums. Even I've done it at times. This morning I sat down and thought about it, and the results lie within.
Couldent quite understand that last line man xD.
But ya I know what you mean about the hatefull bull shit and stuff. But that will always be around becuase people have a need for attention whether it be negative or postive.
But this was mainly focusing on people who are just trying to blog and being kicked for it, even if it's only a sentence or two.
but... you make a good point, the clogs are free and should always be. thats whats so great about this community. so... maybe destructoid is "evolving" the socialization of the internet, by kinda erasing the line between forums and blogs so that it can just be described as a "community".
anyway, great blog man.
Thank you and yes I see your point ^_^. Your right, you shouldent abuse the blogs to start a flamewar but that kind of falls in the catagory of my respounse to juggarnaut as wel :3.
Forums are better suited (layout and text formatting) for discussions. Forums are just more suited, for example, threads don't get pushed down when new ones are started, just when they are less active.
I also think that having a "completely free form" type of system is a terrible idea. Wading through the vast amounts of crap people post to try to find the few gems would be made even harder. There is a balance going on, a fine balance and an often hidden balance, but it's there non the less.
One fault about discussions being held on cblogs is the evolution of the discussion itself. By the time the debate can get anyway decent (After ignoring insults, trollers, and just plain ignorance) the Cblog is outdated and missed to those who didn't show up to Dtoid on time. With forums the topic is revived with each post, so the debate can not only be viewed by all but progressed as well, should people feel that it's worth expressing their opinion.
With Cblogs I KNOW I missed some decent writings out there that deserved to be on the homepage side scroller. And it's not so much me that missed it but that writing's other audience did too.
I'm not all innocent from committing what I think is forum posting on the Cblogs. I'm sure I did it somewhere. And I even think Dtoid (Again, IMO) sometimes encourages it with their contests (MicroPC as an example).
As I said before I know the Dtoid staff sees the same things we as members do. This website will change with the times, and I am curious to see what it will become.
You do have to wade through some stuff at the beginning but once you have a decent friends list you shouldn't have to.
I myself check my friends list first then I go back up and look at the recent blogs to see if something catches my attention. I like the way it has worked out especially the new search function.
I'm not saying cblogs are bad, they are awesome and I very much heart them, but the cblogs are different to the forum, they are each better suited for different rolls.
It's your cblog, you can do with it what you will.
Ironic really that I'm trying to have a discussion in a cblog about having discusions in cblogs.
Sorry, I had to say it so I can look cool.
I have no idea what the hell is going on on a forum. Seriously, I've only gotten big on the internet in the last year, much less the last decade. Forums seem somewhat intimidating, and I'm sure there are plenty of people who agree.
Plus, I like the fact that with comment threads, every comment is on one page. It drives me nuts with forums how you have to back track pages to figure out what the hell people are talking about.
I joined the forums just over a year ago, Though i've not made a single post there yet, soon though, soon.
But yeah, I agree. (with it all)
KA-BEWM.
You make a good point sir. Now what did you say?
