Globally, NSMB Wii will probably outsell MW2. NSMB Wii will sell at least a million copies in Japan between now and January, which will help a lot. Then you have to keep in mind the extremely broad appeal of 2D Mario games.
I believe that a lot of people will love MW2, but that group will be contained to 5-10 million people who love first person shooters. On the other hand, almost everyone will like NSMB Wii, and by everyone, I mean current gamers, lapsed gamers, new gamers, and non-gamers. As Mario Kart Wii has proven, a good game that appeals to everybody sells better than a great game that appeals select group.
I mean, how much did NSMB DS sell? Wasn't it between 15-20 million?
@Jonathan Holmes
NSMB DS was bundled with nearly every DS package in the UK at least. That would explain the sales figures.
I think its possible for sure. Its also possible that MW2 will out sell NSMW globally. Anyways John is right, NSMW has an appeal to a massive audience, much bigger than MW2. Anyways, it doesn't really matter to me, either way Im picking up MW2 and not Mario (because I don't have a wii).
@Jonathan Holmes
You make a very good point there Jon. I have no doubt both games are going to be awesome, and both will sell very well. But I was a little doubtful because there's not too much hype for NSMB, while MW2 is getting crazy amounts of advertisements, reserves, etc. But we have to wait and see.
I'm definitely the minority, but I'm sure as hell going to be playing NSMB as opposed to Modern Warfare 2 this holiday.
@Neo Gio
It's Mario. His name is advertising in itself.
@MisterGrieves
No dedicated servers or mods VS old school 2D platforming fun.
For me it's no contest.
@Jon
I think MW2 already has 10 million PRE-orders. Are we counting PC, 360, AND PS3 for MW2 sales figures? If so, it's looking good for MW2 (there's also a MW2 360 bundle).
As much as I love Mario, I doubt it'll outsell MW2. Shit, I'm even buying NSMBW, and I don't have a Wii yet! (getting it for Xmas).
I'm 99.9% sure MW2 will outsell NSMBW 3 to 1. However, it will still sell well.
@MrGrieves
I'm definitely with you on this one -- NSMB all the way for me, day one and beyond.
@ Magnalon- I Reggie was talking per console, like, NSMB Wii outselling MW2 on the PS3 for example.
If you combine PC, 360,and PS3, then yeah, there's no way NSMB Wii will outsell MW2 by January. Lifetiem sales though? My bets on NSMB Wii.
@ John B- I think there's a very good chance that the Wii will start coming with NSMB Wii packed in as well. As soon as Mario Kart Wii stops selling so well, I bet that will get a bundle too.
I have them both paid for, and while I'll probably wind up playing MW2 more because of the online multiplayer, Mario will be a much more fun and enjoyable experience for me. To this day, even though I'm a fan of shooters, platformers are still and will most likely always be my favorite genre, and Mario is the master. As far as Mario outselling MW2, I doubt it, it will still do good, but MW2 is going to sell better than Halo 3, and considering the MW2 is on two platforms, I think it's the overall winner.
