Killzone 2
I just knew this game would rock, I just knew It...Maybe am a Sony Fanboy after all, the “Infamous” trailer rocked” all right...Psi-ops meets Crackdown...Hellauva of fun!! , Aaahh...but everybody’s talking about a game called Killzone 2, the Halo killer...Now where have I heard that one before, Cut back to the Golden age of the PS2, one fine morning IGN post a 2 page article about a game called Killzone, they also post a screen shot of a beautifully screenshot of a character holding onto a chaingun...My day had never been the same again, the word gaga came so naturally to me then...this battle machine called Master chief seemed to be a tough nut all right, Had Sony listened to the silent prayers’ of a 14 year old.. Yes sir-een Sony had, the company finally took notice about the severe drought of exclusive shooters on its tremendous console, and they unleashed “the Killzone” upon us, a game which started out as a tech Demo had been commissioned into a full fledged game by SCEE. I silently prayed that the game would not be another mediocre title like the Getaway. The hype machine was in full flow... the Ring of Light had finally dawned on The Playstation2’s sacred figure. Till the day it was released...My world tore apart...all my dreams were shattered. Killzone was horribly buggy lame linear shoddy run of the mill First person shooter; it was hopeless attempt to create a world that would die a pitiful death. Sony though otherwise and announced that a sequel of the game would be heading on its next platform PS3, all this bit occurred sometime in early 2005. Next gamers had to stand up against the might of the Chimera in Resistance Fall of Man...Another Halo killer...The game although provided quite an enjoyable experience did not quite live up to the tag. This game was the second deemed Killer to Microsoft’s Master. E3-2005 Guerilla Games showed the entire audience that the Killzone that they had always wanted had finally arrived, Sony came pumping out on stage showcasing the killzone 2 trailer, and the entire crowd felt the sense of Chaos they had always imagined in a game, soon after E3 ended Sony’s sheen began to wither off when it was revealed that the entire trailer was computer generated. All the laurels that Sony had once gathered seemed to quickly fade away and there was darkness all around The Pre-E3 2007 Buzz had been that Killzone 2 would actually be playable and would look Horrifyingly beautiful, Sony also leaked a screen shot to give a tinge onto what was about to hit them at the end of the conference, and the tinge sent the audience into a tizzy all right. The game looked slick, played fast had F***ing, dastardly cool animation and shadows, and looked a good 95% similar to the E3 2005 trailer which had chopped Sony’s nose off, the best part was a developer actually played the entire demo which showed some real cool stuff from the entire game, the Destructible environments was real cool but failed to Impress me once I saw Crytek’s Crysis, the solid thing about the game was the animations the looked so fricking believable that you want your 99 year old grandma check would die if she ever witnessed the game in full HD motion. The presentation was so darn good that I hated every second of me being not in Santa Monica at attending E3, I flopped on my bed thinking when I could Afford Sony’s Mean expensive machine. I decided to check in with the experts, here’s the stuff to expect from the game when it hits shelves in’08 (I’d give it a ’09 release), so kids pick up that pen and paper and start doodling. The developers called a violent theater of war.-Expect a groovy soundtrack to be in place with these words. A.I. looked fairly intelligent-I always hear that one for any hyped up game. One single level had taken up 2GB of data.-this game Isn’t coming out for the 360 for sure now (:P) Weather plays an important role in the game- Apparently the Helghast have the power to control Lightening. There won’t be any HUD at all, the screen starts to fade indicating low heath- This Mechanic was used in the Getaway and was damn frustrating and then it re-surfaced in Call Of Cthulhu was frustrating again, hope these guys have found to perfect the system. The game delivers chaos in a battlefield like never seen before- I somehow have made myself not to believe such things because they generally are a method of building up hype. Timeline- It's 2 years later and the ISA are invading the Helghast home planet of Helghan. The goal is to capture the Helghast leader and bring the war machine to a halt. The realism in the game comes from the Hollywood special effects people and weapon experts from a variety of fields. You'll rarely stay put in the game, the action makes on screen keeps you always on your toes. Quite a number of weapons return for the previous game. According to boards this game is the true successor to all First person shooters and is leaves its other grey brethren Gears of War far behind. So the video says it all, the game looks to kill all right, GG have finally seemed to have woken up from their slumber and taken notice and finally managed to blow everything in their way. First Lets get some Facts straight this game is not going to kill Halo, its probably going to do as well as Halo, secondly the bit on the grayish palette kind of puzzles me ,the earlier game had a monochromatic palette because PS2 lacked the hardware to pull of something as gorgeous as Halo, so why stick to the same Monochromatic palette which makes the game looks a bit dull otherwise, the CG trailer still had more colors to it, not that it’s a bad thing it helps keeping the grittiness of war intact but it kind of gets sore on the eyes after a point of time, but I personally like it. The gameplay may get a tad bit on the lame side after a point of time, but it is only one level that was shown, so the others are expected to surpass this by miles This game is aimed at a more mature audience, unlike Halo whose fan base largely consists if 15 year olds and looks like a definitive title on everyone’s wish list for the coming year, and Halo speaks of a trilogy ending, whereas this game is the second in the series. This game still has a long long way to go. The demo was probably a pre alpha version, so expect it to look even better. Hope the game lives up its hype this time around otherwise Sony’s going to have a tough fall all right, and all you X-bots out there wait for surprise showing of gears of war 2 which will make you salivate like all the sony bots out there. read more

Rumbling Rants II
Xfire recently hosted a debate where editors form some popular gaming sites had a roundtable conference about the console wars which we are heavily into. Here are a bunch of extracts from the 10,000 page transcript- Paul "Lefein" Shields from PS3forums “Everytime someone picks up a Wiimote and enjoys gaming that is someone who will be interested in XBox 720 and PS4 or even PC gaming!” Chris Grant from Joystiq:- “I think Nintendo is being slow about everything online.” Niels Keurentjes from Xboxic:- “All Xbox killer games are oriented towards 15-35 year old male experienced gamers.” “I have spoken to game developers that say Microsoft will send a crack team down for a week if you got a problem devving for 360, and Sony just laughs at the phone if you're not an SCEE owned company.” Brandon Sheffield from Gamasutra:- “Exclusives are important but impossible now. With everyone using Unreal engine 3, they are being forced to go cross-platform because of cost, exclusives will be harder to come by.” “I was going to get the Elite until I remembered I bought a 360 already.” read more

The Master of stealth Solid Snake has been facing Stiff Resistance these days, with Kojima breaking the 360 into two by referring to it as a DVD player and Metal Gear Solid 4 requiring a home theater to experience the goodness of war. Well Snake it seems ain’t coming an inch close to those M$, (but what he said was also quite true, the PS3 does come close to a home theater sans the Bravia and Bose surround sound system), although the rumors about an alliance between Suda (of Killer 7 fame) and Kojima and the revival of a 16 bit mystery/adventure game called “Snatcher” (Sega CD) does have a multiplatform prospect, that is if it isn’t exclusive for the Wii.
Well Microsoft, went shopping and bought its own stealth super spy in the form of Sam fisher of Splinter Cell fame, his next sneak op “ConViction” is scheduled to appear exclusively on the 360, it is currently being handled by the Montreal studio who brought out the original Splinter cell and its stellar sequel Chaos Theory, (Double agent and Pandora tomorrow were developed by their Shanghai studio, they were more of expansion packs than full fledged games) ,the game is about to take a complete turn around with Sam being put in an sandbox area and finding ways to escape the enemy ,ironic but it defines Mgs4’s tagline “No where to hide”. I just came impressed by the hand to hand combat and the use of the environment as a weapon from the recent trailer; call it strange but the Information that was divulged about the game, made me feel the ideas were akin to I-O Interactive’s “Hitman” Series. ConViction would have been able to stand out of the crowd if it did not resemble the upcoming and highly anticipated “Assassin’s creed” being developed by the same studio and Fisher’s uncanny resemblance of Big Boss from Snake eater who in turn looks like Kurt Russell from his Escape from New York and L.A adventures., this also reminds me of a game that was scheduled to be built around the adventures of “Snake Plissken” by Namco, the game seems to be MIA, If Namco ever decides to revive the game I hope its not like Dead to rights , Kill.Switch Or Nina :Codebreaker I got hold of the Stats for both the games and Metal Gear seems to beat splinter Cell by Miles in terms of sales figures here’s the break up Metal Gear Solid (6.6 million) ,Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty(7 million )Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (3.7 million) whereas Splinter Cell series could only manage to Churn out 5 million copies (all three of its games combined, I don’t know the sales figures for the current one[Double agent] and It can’t really be another 5 million), the game did have an upper hand in the multiplayer front which was far better than the online mode Introduced in MGS3:Subsistence. The gameplay mechanics of Splinter cell has always had an authentic spy feel to it, the story revolves around global crisis situations (which are hardly comprehendible), the slick gadgets coupled with the use of Stealth maneuvers requires players to trod along a level with a lot of patience, if it was not for the shoddy A.I. in all the four games, the series would have been really hard to beat. The Metal gear solid series is like an over the top Hollywood blockbuster action/spy movie that delivers on all fronts, but merely calling it a Hollywood movie would be an insult for it is one of the most impressive games I‘ve ever seen till date, the story does have minor loopholes, but the gameplay fits in tune with the surroundings (guns + explosions+ polished gadgets + environment=One man army), the story illustrates a wide range of emotions, and the Characters are superbly crafted to fit into the story(SNAKE!!!!!), however the game is more forgiving in the stealth department than Splinter cell and the cutscenes that tell a major chunk of the story feel somewhat stretched at places, detracting from the on hands experience. I wonder if Kojima will have Minigames this time around within cutscenes, to keep the player drenched in the saga of war, honor and love. This whole raging debate started out with the original Splinter cell when certain gaming websites labeled it as a “Metal gear clone”. This little snippet has been taken directly from the review of the original Splinter Cell game. “Splinter Cell is a third-person stealth-based game, much like the Metal Gear Solid series. What's important to note about Splinter Cell is that it's not a game trying to be like Metal Gear Solid 2, it's a game that has evolved past it.” I think its time to get the facts straight, Splinter cell has more common elements in the Thief series, sneaking and active measures of stealth are essential in completing the missions, whereas MGS allows players to use confrontation as an effective solution to progress ahead in the story ,which is not centered around a rigid structure of missions ,so both games fall in different gaming genres all together, the only common line that runs parallel through both the games is the fact that the protagonists are Stealth agents (the actions of such agents will be similar in a lot of terms, so it is advised not to start comparing the various moves/weapons presented in both the games), barring this I cannot seem to find too much in common in both the games, the games deal entirely with different subjects all together. The only reason I think its essential for Montreal’s game to be compared with Kojima’s master piece is the fact it gives them an incentive to create a stealth game that gives all games a run for their money in a big way. read more

This list that I’ve manage to compile constitutes a number of games that should have seen sequels, but never saw a developer or a publisher pick it up.
I don’t know how many shall actually remember these games because they are quite a step away from the conventional retro lists that everyone keeps looking into .Note- the list is not in any particular order of preference- 1. Heavy Metal F.A.K.K 2(Ritual)-Lara...Phew... 2. Abuse (Crack Dot com)-A true homage to ALIENS..I think no one would ever heard of this game...download it and give it a shot... 3 .Marvel VS Capcom Series (Capcom) Either a complete sequel or a release on XBLA/PSN/VC 4. MDK –“Shwang Shing” and “Puppy Wuppy Dingy Doggy” {Bioware/Shiny} 5. Fear Effect (Eidos)...A tale of Crime set in Hong Kong 6. Blood (Monolith)-I loved the first game, the second was fun as well, watch out for the “Eating Hearts bit” return In Starbreeze studios “The Darkness” 7. Blades of Steel (Platform-NES) 8. Deathrow (Southend studios/Ubisoft)-everyone overlooked this game; the applause meter saw Sneaky fisher win the contest. 9. Nightmare Creatures...Adam Crowely... (Ubisoft), the third game was slated to appear on the previous generation...but disappeared....this game would definitely Manhunt a run for its money 10. Sanitarium-Lord save me! 11. Oni-Oh Konoko, the wicked wicked Master Chief is never going to let live ever again. Its time for you guys to vote for the game on the list that deserves a shot... read more
