About Me

Yo. I just graduated from Syracuse University, with a major in Television/Film at the Newhouse School.

I love video games, gaming/nerd culture, examining games critically as an art form, and all the useless trivia and data surrounding games. I am a consumer whore. Gaming is obviously one of my primary hobbies, though not the only one. I'm a regular on Failcast.

I also watch anime and read manga when I get the chance. It's mostly just mainstream and shonen stuff as a result of the ease of accessibility, though I try to see some more obscure series when I get the chance.

I have epic hair.

I play bass guitar and have been in a band. It's broken up. I lived the dream.

I love rock. I tend to gravitate towards various types of punk, alternative, or indie, though I'll listen to anything. Bob Dylan rocks. Also, random weird underground stuff. The NES sound chip was amazing.

Three new Kingdom Hearts games, no KHIII yet
Bob Muir | 3:43 PM on 09.20.2007 15 comments

So, I very nearly called it. 1UP confirms three new Kingdom Hearts games, coming at you straight from old Nippon. The biggest one is Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep for PSP, a prequel to the first game in the series starring someone who is reported to look strangely like Zack from FFVII. In a separate preview, 1UP describes it as an action-RPG that remains true to the standards set in KHI and KHII, which is pretty good in my book, and while there's no firm plot details, it's described as "the distant past." The Zack-a-like talks to a Roxas-a-like and apparently King Mickey makes an appearance. There is speculation that this is the game that will contain a story about the three knights shown at the end of KHII's secret movie.

The one that I'm most curious about is the second game, Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days for DS. As was guessed, it's a sidestory, but it's not KH2.5 like I predicted, but actually occurs cocurrent with KH: Chain of Memories for GBA. It stars Roxas and has four-player multiplayer with Organization XIII members. Also, it'll be in full 3D, which leaves the similar-in-art-style game Subarashiki to fulfill your dreams of a 2D KH game on DS. It's also described as "time of the other side."

The last game is not the rumored KHIII for PS3 but instead a mobile game called Kingdom Hearts: Coded which will star King Mickey and other familiar characters from KHI and KHII. Other than saying "time has gone by," there's only some speculation as to where it falls (supposedly between KHI and KHII, which means that part of the story is getting a little crowded).

Overall, I guess this was 2/3 of a good announcement. I'm interested to see more of the DS game, and the PSP game sounds promising, but the mobile game...meh. I was really hoping for a PS3 announcement to make me want to buy the system.

See the games' logos in the attached files, courtesy of Wikipedia.

(And yes, that's an old picture, because I'm lazy enough to use a funny caption twice.)

Well, it looks like they're being true to the Disney half of their formula.

Wait, what am I saying? It's just like both sides to drag something out as long as they possibly can.

I really think KH3 will be a Wii game. The power of the Wii just can't be denied.

Tron, I think KH would be a perfect fit for the Wii, but even though I think it would sell like crazy on there, I can't see Square putting the next big installment on there. I predicted a safe move of putting a spin-off on there, and if it did well, moving the series to Wii, but if it's not listed among these spin-offs, I honestly can't see a Wii version coming out.

I don't get the 368/2 Days one. I don't remember anyone in that game saying anything about 368/2 days, and I beat that game too many times. Still the original team, as I know of, isn't going to be on this. Still you beat me to it, well played sir, I am giving you the title of honorary ninja for the day.

I'm surprised no one posted it, to be honest. I saw this at 3 in the morning last night and decided to be lazy. When I came back from classes at 4, I figured I'd just do it myself.

As for the title, there's some speculation about a year (365 days) being the amount of time between KHI and KHII, and add a few days, and maybe that's the amount of time before Sora comes back in KHII. *shrugs* I don't know, as I still have to play my copy of Chain of Memories.

Yeah, I think this is gonna make my buy a PSP. That seems to be the only one of the 3 announced KH games that will actually be truly important to the storyline.

Chain of Memories was okay but I could never beat the last boss in the secret area but yeah I had classes to and I didn't check the news this mourning so that is my fault. Well yeah, it is between 1 and 2 because Chain of Memories was between those two.
