About Me

Yo. I just graduated from Syracuse University, with a major in Television/Film at the Newhouse School.

I love video games, gaming/nerd culture, examining games critically as an art form, and all the useless trivia and data surrounding games. I am a consumer whore. Gaming is obviously one of my primary hobbies, though not the only one. I'm a regular on Failcast.

I also watch anime and read manga when I get the chance. It's mostly just mainstream and shonen stuff as a result of the ease of accessibility, though I try to see some more obscure series when I get the chance.

I have epic hair.

I play bass guitar and have been in a band. It's broken up. I lived the dream.

I love rock. I tend to gravitate towards various types of punk, alternative, or indie, though I'll listen to anything. Bob Dylan rocks. Also, random weird underground stuff. The NES sound chip was amazing.

So I go to check today's Ctrl-Alt-Del comic and it's about the new release The Eye of Judgment:

I laugh, until I say to myself, "Why Necros old boy, you've heard that one before. Also, time to refill on candy corn." After getting myself another bucket of that addicting, horrible, delicious candy, I sift through the jumbled mess that is my brain to remember the place I heard it first, back in August:

Come on, CAD. I know you're better than that. You've come up with original ideas independent of Penny Arcade's take on the same news before. You don't have to rip-off the same gag, an insulting PS Eye, with all the experience you've had. That is, unless you really have gone down the shitter as I've been thinking lately.

On an unrelated note: what's with the David Bowie collection at Target? Those damn young'uns aren't going to go near that stuff.

To be fair an eye judging you seems like the obvious parody take on Eye of Judgement, more than ripoff i would say it's just unoriginal. Either way i preferred the one PA did where it looks like the eye of Sauron.

a few things:
ctrl+alt+del is subpar and would steal from penny arcade.
candy corn is gross
eye of judgment is nothing but a money scam

^ what they said, and the Judgment joke got old 1 day after PA did it.

PA, what a laugh. Not in a good way. CAD is much better, but it's always "Penny Arcade already did this, hence this comic isn't funny." IMO, the CAD version is much better.

I am sorry but this is stupid. You really think they went to Penny Arcade to look up an idea for something called "EYE OF JUDGEMENT." The first that comes to mind is THAT JOKE. I highly doubt the creators of Ctrl-Alt-Delete frequent Penny Arcade's website and comics. They are like competitors.

But if you want to get picky, how about this...

I posted this the MORNING it came out. The first on Dtoid to post it. Smash Update: Pictochat level, title: Little kids beware, the best DS feature! . In it I joked about pedofile and Chris Hanson and all that stuff.

Then a couple hours later (5 or more?), Dale North posted the Stage on the front page. People in the comments made jokes about pedophile. Why won't they come up with original ideas?

Around that time mackisawesomedid a post about drawing penis in pictochat which I touched on. I guess he should come upw ith original ideas too?

And IMMEDIATELY after that post is Nub4cakes post which he hid cause it was almost immediately after mack's and Nub even comment in mack's blog. I guess he is a bigg copy cat and they ALL copied me and they ALL need to come up with original ideas huh?

Sure, you can say mine was early in the morning...yeah but PA's comic was weeks before this one.

My point is it is the MOST OBVIOUS joke from the subject. Just cause more than one person do it, does that mean it is copying and not an original idea?

PS: You making this blog is not an original idea cause I am sure people who first read it earlier than you thought of this idea before you. Come up with original ideas please!

Saying CAD is better than PA provided me a good laugh for the day. Buckley is a hack, the comic is cliche, and all his characters look the same. Which is a real shame, because he definitely has artistic talent when you look at his other work.

But the problem with this comic is that it went for an easy joke. PA wasn't really funny when it did it, either. It's the first thing that comes to mind, like BSD said. It's the same as everyone who did 300 comics when the movie came out.. the first one provided a small snicker.. the rest, not so much. And since PA did it first, CAD falls into the "not so much" category.

I'm Chris Hansen?

And I prefer PA. And I'm buying Eye of Judgment, even with its grammatical error.

In fact, I'm paying $10 more for that grammatical error.

Internet spellings r0x0rz.

that is all.

Even if it is the obvious joke, you would think that CAD would make the effort to not be so obvious. Bloodylip got where I was going with this.

Fact: there are no original ideas any more
Fact: parallel thinking is always possible
Fact: losing track of your competitors is bad business

Although it's always possible that this is *not* a blatant rip-off, it's still a really cheap joke told by the [arguable] Kings of Webcomics *2 months ago*. If Buckley really missed that, then he needs to get his head out of his ass.

The Penny Arcade wins for being funnier and also making this joke when it was relevant.

They are just making their own comics about a relevant item of the times. Duh.

Where there's an obvious joke like that, it'll happen. There's been plenty of times I'll read a story only to find someone's already posted the exact same snarky comment I was thinking off.

Well, it's not a bad comic, but Penny Arcade's was way better. And Bowie kicks fucking ass, although I don't think my large ass will be rocking those clothes anytime soon
