About Me

Yo. I just graduated from Syracuse University, with a major in Television/Film at the Newhouse School.

I love video games, gaming/nerd culture, examining games critically as an art form, and all the useless trivia and data surrounding games. I am a consumer whore. Gaming is obviously one of my primary hobbies, though not the only one. I'm a regular on Failcast.

I also watch anime and read manga when I get the chance. It's mostly just mainstream and shonen stuff as a result of the ease of accessibility, though I try to see some more obscure series when I get the chance.

I have epic hair.

I play bass guitar and have been in a band. It's broken up. I lived the dream.

I love rock. I tend to gravitate towards various types of punk, alternative, or indie, though I'll listen to anything. Bob Dylan rocks. Also, random weird underground stuff. The NES sound chip was amazing.

Dtoid's 2009 Completed Games List: January Update
Bob Muir | 6:08 PM on 02.02.2009 15 comments

For those who aren't familiar or may be newer to Dtoid: welcome to the first update of Dtoid's 2009 Completed Games List! Dtoiders can list all the games they complete in this thread, and at least once a month, I'll complete the brain-numbing task of updating the list so your games can stand proudly next to everyone else's games. While the full list is found at the top of that thread, I'll list all the updates within a given month in a separate cblog, such as the one you're reading now.

One of the things I like best about compiling these lists is seeing small trends appear among many users, like when a big AAA game comes out, or among just one user, as he explores a series. Obviously, with just January completed so far, there aren't a ton of clear trends, but you can see some beginning to form. I couldn't help but notice one Dtoider named Bleach Boy, who I noticed has been making steady progress towards playing a bunch of Final Fantasy handheld ports. It will be interesting to track more trends as the months come.

Speaking of months, I'll make one comparison to 2008: we came pretty damn close. We played and listed only two games less than last January. Not bad, considering the fact that the forums were dead for about two weeks, which I'm sure threw people off a bit. It's still a great start to the year, and I'm certain we can get even more games completed next month. I noticed a few people have made resolutions, like 13thDragon swearing to complete 100 games this year, so I'm hoping to complete as many as I can on my own as well.

So keep gaming and go list your games in the main thread, and let's see how high we can get the list this year! (Please don't list your games in this cblog, because they won't be counted.)

To add a little context to the way the list works:

1. When listing new games, make sure to make a new post in the thread and not just edit your last list.
2. Completion does not mean that you have to do X, Y, and Z for it to be completed. Completion is whatever you consider finished, whether that is just beating the game, getting every achievement, or unlocking every single item.
3. Games released via digital distribution count too! You can list XBLA and PSN games separately, but realize that I will be putting them under Xbox 360 and PS3 listings in the main list. Wii VC games will be listed under their console of origin, since they play exactly the same with no changes. Feel free to list any indie or flash game you think is worth it as well.
4. If you beat a game that you've beat in the past, it still counts! The list is for games completed in 2009, regardless of previous completion.
5. Some "games" are actually compilations, such as Sonic Mega Collection and The Orange Box. Since there are multiple games, please list each of them separately.
6. If the game is multiplayer only, it's hard to actually complete it. If you want something like Team Fortress 2 to count, make sure it's some goal like "got all achievements" or "raised skill rank to 50" and note it in your list.
7. Downloadable content can count, provided it's a full expansion on the level of The Elder Scrolls IV: The Shivering Isles. If the DLC merely additional missions that are integrated into the regular game, such as the "Bring Down the Sky" DLC for Mass Effect, then it doesn't count as a separate game.
8. Please list the console you played it on! If you don't, I have to research it or guess, and then I'm going what version I would have played, not the one you played.
9. Remember, this isn't a competition. This is just for fun. We're not here to compare our e-peens.

Ya, thanks for doing this, Necros. I can imagine that this would take a lot of work. Only beat 1 game so far...

Thanks again for all your work Necros, I love the Completed Games List!!

I may have bitten off a little more than I could chew, though, with my 100 game idea. One month down and only 3? And one only took a minute to beat? Oh man.
