I got the PS3 version of FFXIII today and I have to admit, I'm loving it, but why? Is this the same Final Fantasy XIII that has all the corny dialogue and cliché characters? Is this the same game that critics along with fans bashed for straying far from the formula? Is this the same game that has it's male protagonist looking like a female? You bet it is!
The reasons for my enjoyment for this game is simple: low expectations and bought it for cheap. I already knew what I was getting myself into. I knew I was buying a cheesy, corny and sometimes painful game to watch and listen, but because my expectations were so low, I ended up enjoying it.
Everything you heard about the game is true, but the way it's presented is flawless. The corny dialogue is performed with good voice actors. The exaggerations are presented with bright colors so clear that it reminds me why I bought an HDTV in the first place. The stupid dialogue is shown coming out of some of the most impressive facial expressions I've seen in a video game.
I think the reason this game get's so much slack is because it isn't the "dark" and "serious" RPG people were hoping for. This game is simply fun! In other words, it's the video game equivalent of a movie so bad it's good. You know the film has it's flaws, but the reasons you like the movie is because of it's flaws. I recommended FFXII to anyone looking for a great showpiece for their HDTV and a great presentation of everything corny. Turn off your brain and enjoy the ride!
maybe if you buy it for dirt cheap, its easier to think of the game as something other than AAA. But I understand the frustration completely of anyone who purchased it.
I bought it at half price 2 weeks after it came out so really, I only half like the game.
But I'll never play that POS game ever again. It broke my PS3 as I've blogged about before. I had to replace the laser and both Sony and Square refused to admit what the problem was.
So be careful around Ch. 9 cause that's when my game got fucked.
the whole corridor feel just wasn't there for me, since you can apply the same to ANY game including side scrollers and a billion other reasons.
