'Ello there my fellow PS3 owning Dtoiders, apologies for my absences, but I’m back again.
First of all thanks to wilbo, who filled the role fantastically, couldn’t of done it without you buddy.


Secondly, those of you that haven’t seen the Dark Knight, you owe it to yourselves to see it. Being a person who absolutely loved the animated series in the early nineties, (arguably one of the best cartoons ever), it pleases me greatly to tell you that the film surpasses the animated series, no mean feat seeing as the cartoon itself was very dark and expertly written. Being a film connoisseur , rarely do I feel genuinely happy on spending money to see a film on the Big screen. Let me explain why.


I expected weak points, I expected the film to fail in living up to the hype, and most of all I expected it not to pull off what Spiderman 2 did so effortlessly, a film that by most accounts outdoes and outclasses it’s predecessor. Never in my life have I been so wrong. The Joker apart, the story itself was incredible, a dark, desperate, bleak take on the line between good and evil, just what IS the difference between them? Can this Batman really be seen as a ‘hero‘, when he brings so much death and destruction to Gotham? Is he really the person he thinks he is, just what beliefs and values will he have to betray in order to get his man? The film answers this question and then some. The story is handled with the correct level of maturity, and despite it’s bleak nature, a focus on hope and morality still remains, surprisingly. It can be said that the film elevates itself above it’s comic book origins. This is the reason why it can appeal to almost everyone, never does it feel like it is based on a comic-book.



Just expect one hell of a ride along the way, finally the Batmobile gets to show off what it can really do in a car-chase, Dumper-Truck crush FTW indeed. Not to mention the Bat-bike, which though looking strange, managed to pull off a truly awesome ass-kicking of the Joker, I see his Truck likes ‘bondage’ .





Not forgetting the performance of the late, great Heath Ledger. I won’t say much, except, give this man an Oscar, I seriously doubt we’ll see a better performance in a any movie by an actor for a very, very long time. He deserves to be an acting legend, especially after his tragic death. Words do not justify the excellence of his version of the Joker. Simply put, he wasn’t an actor trying to play the Joker, he WAS the Joker. If any of you reading this knows a number of capable actors/actresses, ask them what type of character they enjoy playing the best, the majority will say a character that they can become, completely. In other words, method acting. Ledger does this so well, it’s not hard to believe why people think he deserves an Oscar. One can only wonder what adverse effects it had on him, as method acting has known to change actor’s real life personas.


It may not be THE best performance I’ve ever seen (that belongs to a certain Oh-Dae-Su, in a certain OLDBOY film), but by God, it needs to be seen in it’s entirety to be believed, I’ll never look at a pencil the same way again, that goes for knives, make-up and fat people looking like they suffer from severe stomach cramps, whilst saying someone put light and sparkles inside them. If you see the latter happening , run as fast as you can, and if you are banged up with them, you‘re pretty fucked.

All in all, if you truly only have to watch one film this year and no other, watch this one, I cannot give it a higher recommendation.
