Name: Ray Lumina
Occupation: Co-Owner of Eddie Murphy Museum/Store
Dream Job: Co-Owner of Eddie Murphy Museum/Store
About Me: I grew up in the boring old midwest with my best friend Chase. I went to culinary school for 2 semesters, dropped out, engaged in several dumb business moves with Chase (who got his dumbass into harvard) then finally started on our dream job. Our dream job was to create an Eddie Murphy museum, because we were both huge fans of his movies but then Chase decided it would be coolr if it had a store in it, so now it's a store AND museum! It's not done yet, but we have leased a location and are working on it! You can check out our website at theMurphitorium.com.
Oh yeah, I'm also a huge gamer. I have both an Xbox and a PC computer and my fav game is Halo 2. I'm also currently playing Spore and DQ Tycoon, which has actually helped my business management skills alot! lol
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to whomever sent us a mystery Xbox 360 in the mail. I don't know if it came from Dtoid people, MySpace people or someone else, but you're the best.
I'll put some pics up when I get some extra time, but basically we got a box w/ a 360 inside (a real one this time) and a note that said "Murph on!" Can't wait to get some games for it and again, thank you to whomever sent us it!
So I first heard of DQ Tycoon from here at destructoid and it sounded like a lot of fun. I liked Pizza Tycoon II and other tycoon games with food plus I love Dairy Queen, so I figured "why not?"
Even better, it ran on my terrible computer! The basic idea is like Dinner Dash where you have to help out all the customers as fast as you can. The graphics are pretty corny but will make you want ice cream not corn. There's all kinds of upgrades you can get for your store too so it's more like Dinner Dash but with more management stuff in there too.
The sound and music is pretty boring, so I usually just turn on some f.o.b. on media player and that works fine.
Overall the game is pretty good, on the murphiscale I give it a Shrek the 4th out of 5.
So my last post got a lot of comments, mainly because of my boneheaded room mate Chase. So here's the update. He actually didn't buy it on ebay but on craigslist and the seller isn't willing to cooperate. He's going to go down to the guys place tomorrow and try and talk it out, hopefully I won't be bailing him out of jail (well, I guess he can't cuz we have no money!).
OH and I almost forgot, like I said in our video blog, we finally got our permits! I wish I could scan and show these off cuz they were a pain in the a** to get. I never knew you had to have a permit for so many things. All the prep work is done, now we're just waiting on all the merchindise and we'll be open! Can't wait. We created a little fan club/frequent shopper club for the store, the link for the info on that is http://themurphitorium.com/?p=26
I will try and post a FULL review of DQ Tycoon soon, I'm still using the demo so I'll do the full one as soon as I get the full game.
Today started off extremely boring. I went down to the shop (see last post about that) bright and early at like 6AM (I really hate waking up before the sun is even up) to finish up painting and I'm pretty sure i lost a few brain cells because we don't have any fucking windows that open and the fumes are terrible.
Chase (the co-owner and my best friend) finally showed up around noon, I was pretty pissed until he told me that he had gotten a 360 for the apartment! Finally, we have entered post 2004 gaming! I left immediatly for home and left the remainder of the painting to Chase (which may be a huge mistake, I'll find out tomorrow I guess).
The problem is that it looks like it's just a tiny Xbox or something? A friend told me it might be an Xbox Mini, as he said there was a rumor that one was coming out, but he didn't see a picture of it or anything I just described it to him over the phone. I have included a picture if anyone out there knows for sure, but it didn't come with any controllers or cords so I will have to buy those seperately probably.
((EDIT: OK OK I realize now that it is an HD-DVD drive for the 360! I'm going to see if he can return it!!!!))
Chase said he got it from ebay (with what money, I dunno cuz we're broke till the store opens), so I'm hoping it's legit.
Anyway, I'm just happy we have something to game on other than an old Xbox and old PC. Hopefully we get it up and running soon. It came with a copy of Sonic The Hedgehog and UNO, so that should keep me occupied for awhile.
My name is Ray, I'm new to this whole thing, but I really like video games among other things.
My current obsessions are Halo 2 and DQ Tycoon, which is a really fun game, except for the fact that it makes you hungry. It has actually helped me out a lot in learning how to manage businesses, especially since I'm going into business with my friend Chase.
The business is called The Murphitorium and it's an Eddie Murphy museum and store. It's not open yet but we've got an investor and a location leased, so it's coming real soon, hopefully in Feb or March and oh yeah it's in the midwest, so if you live around Pedroza, MO then come check us out or drop by the store we'll give you a tour even though it's not open yet, lol! If you're near there, it's out by the old Denny's, right across from it actually!
If you have Xbox Live my gamertag is murphimaniac, drop me a line if you want to play a few rounds of Halo 2 or Tetris Worlds! Hopefully once we start making money I can upgrade to an 360, lol!
P.S. The pic is of our store, when we first got it. it's plain in that but will look much better when we r done!
P.P.S. If you want more info on the store, see our websight at www.themurphitorium.com
