A Year In Review (Movies) NVGR
Muddy Waterz | 4:42 PM on 12.30.2008 3 comments

Surprisingly this year has been great for movies and video games. Here's a few movies that I got a chance to check out.

This movie is based off of a book by Stephenie Meyer (which i haven't read) and like most of its predecessors it seems to have lost a significant amount of substance and meaning in transition. Most of the movie deals with the relationship between a girl named Bella and a vampire named Edward. This film does go a bit overboard in its writing. I remember there was a scene where Edward says "Your scent is like a drug to me." That statement alone made me cringe. Bella's character is very plain and one-dimensional, which is very making her a very disappointing main character. Keep in mind that this movie is directed at a certain demographic so do not have high expectations. I'll give this movie a 2/5.

I would not be surprised if this movie wins an academy award contender. Slumdog Millionaire is directed by Danny Boyle who also directed Trainspotting(another great movie) . I must say he really did incredible work on this film. The movie is about a poor Indian teenager who gets a chance to be a contestant on his countries version of "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire." During his time on this show the movie the movie cuts conflicts and obstacles that he had to overcome in his life. For those who enjoy a movie, your in for a treat. This movie is truly a must see. I'll give it a 5/5.

Here's Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino. Clint plays a retired war vet named Walt who is bitter and out of touch with his family. He lives in a inner-city neighborhood infested with gang members. A teenage neighbor tries to steal his car and later on he develops a relationship with him. You can see a little bit of Dirty Harry when he makes statements like "Get off my lawn!" This movie does have some flaws. The gang members are just laughable. You can tell that most of the younger actors are inexperienced, but overall it is a very good movie. I'll give it a 4/5.

Before you see this film I must tell you the the "secret" of this movie is not important at all! It is really the transition to the end. It is the most emotional movie I have seen this year. Will Smith plays a IRS agent who helps a group of people in order to redeem himself. This movie is very slow but there are points where it gives you just enough info to keep you interested. You spend most of the movie wondering why he feels so guilty. Rosario Dawson was great in this film. I would say this is her best performance yet. Your either going to love or hate this movie. Because of the holes in the story, I will have to give this movie a 3/5.

You will have a good time watching this movie. This movie is about two energy drink spokesman who are sentenced to community service at a big brother type of organization. The movie is just full of one-liners. The two kids that they look after really take this movie to the next level. I'll give it a 4/5.

This film was directed by Kevin Smith. He is known for his movies such as Clerks 1 and 2, Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back, and Dogma. As expected it is full of profanity, but the film is very endearing. The title alone explains the plot. Seth Rogan and Elizabeth Banks have great chemistry. This movie really surpassed my expectations. I'll give it a 5/5

More to come!

No doubt, I've been hearing a lot of good things about both of those movies. I plan on seeing Ben Button as well.
