I went to go see Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith at the first midnight showing, and a guy got up and proposed tohis girlfriend in front of everyone right before the movie started in a full Jedi costume. She loved it, but of course she was also dressed up in a Jedi costume as well.

Well, you can either be basic, original, expensive or cheap. Either way it's your call. It's new and gets the message across, so I think it's cool ("A for effort"). I guess it depends on your personal tastes and what you think the other person will like (cause that may or may not influence their decision "how you propose").
