OK I have to get this off my chest. I never owned a SNES and have rarely played one. I was only 8 and I didn't know about it. I had a sega genesis instead so stone me if you wish. I have looked into getting SNES but i cant find one and I looked into some classics Chrono Trigger and Super mario RPG which were 80 and 70 $ respectively

I think a lot of people consider the Genesis one of the less essential systems and I always find myself defending it to people who didn't own one. I love that little thing. The gameplay was usually a tad clunkier on the Genesis and the color palette was kind of drab, but it totally benefited from the "edgier" marketing Sega tried to sell it on. The games tended to have a darker, tougher aesthetic than those on the Super NES and I love it for that. The Mutant League Sports Games, Splatterhouse 2 and 3, Mortal Kombat, Zero Wing, the Shinobi games, Two Crude Dudes, the Thunder Force series . . . there are so many niche oddities for that system.

A Super NES is well worth the money and I have hundreds of games for it. But consider yourself lucky that you didn't ignore the Genesis. You've got your own classics to look back on.

I did not have a SNES or Genesis till the next generation of systems were out. And in fact, I didn't own a real genesis, but got the Nomad instead (which I still love dearly to this day). Being poor sucked. Not that I rich now, but at least I have my Wii and 360 before the next next gen systems are out.

I always thought the Genesis was the cooler of it and SNES when they were both head on. The blood included in Mortal Kombat through a code plus the X-Men games had me sold (plus it was a black system, so dark and mysterious and cool)

That's okay. Ebay will get you a SNES for nothing and many rom and emu sites out there will deliver anything that you missed first time. Emus are a good way to test games that never saw official releases too.

Snes was my first home console and gave me a lot of fun times. If you do ever hunt down Snes games try or wikipedia these.

Area 88 (aka UN Squadron), Legend of Zelda: Link to the past (also on GBA), Cybernator.

My brother gave me his Super NES when he upgraded to a Saturn, by then there were no games in the local stores for the Super NES, but I still have it now, its permanently hooked upto my TV in the lounge with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past cartridge I found in a bargain bin for £1. Talk about WIN!
