What's with the unanimous love for this this thing?

Watch it and form your own opinion. Maybe I'm not a big enough fanboy of either Final Fantasy or Dead or Alive (or Nina from Tekken). This video just seems extremely cheesy, pointless, and shameless. In concept, it's just like
Kings of Power 4 Billion%(click your address bar and hit enter to fix video), which I ironically love. Both videos are about over-the-top violence for the sake of nothing else but being violent.
I guess the difference is that KoP was a completely original piece, with hand-crafted sprites, and brutal music that is carefully synced with the action. Dead Fantasy II however takes copywrited characters, gives them all very dull looking models, rips sound effects right out of KOF99 (or 2002, I cant be bothered), and animates them in ways that just don't suit the visual style. Somehow it all just seems incredibly stupid. It only gets dumber when you realize that the characters aren't even fighting in their signature ways most of the time, and instead are just shooting your standard hadokens and shit.
Why am I even posting about it then? Well I had no intention to until I realized that all the praise isn't just coming from horny 13 year old boys with no taste in anything. No, I've seen countless people in their 20's and 30's across many blogs, calling this the greatest fan-made CGI film ever.
The sad thing is, they may be right, at least in the gaming world. Very rarely do we ever see anything technically and artistically impressive come from game-inspired video fan-works. You want to see something truly impressive?
Watch this. It's a fan-made video from a few years back, based on the Motorball saga in one of my favorite comics of all time, GUNNM (Battle Angel Alita). It has superb graphics, editing, animation, and it handles the source material with every ounce of care. It's the best example we have of what
James Cameron's version will look like, if he ever gets around to working on it.
All I'm saying is that just because a product reigns over a mountain of shit, doesn't mean you need to show it a Zeus-level of respect.
Or maybe everyone is just seeing something I'm not. Whatever.
It's nice animation but originality is really low. Kings of Power, originality is way over the top in some areas and the animation was amazing.
Crap, I mean "In Kings of Power..."
this was on the front page like what..last week?
oh also, I really don't care much for this or the first. I saw the first, thought it was ok. But I kinda hate vids like these where there's no point in why they are even fighting and it's just hot chicks fighting. Same with Haloid. I love it, but it's just pointless.
Now the Street Fighter Vs. Mortal Kombat is still some hot pixelated shit. At least there's some type of story implemented. Not the best but at least it tries. and the complete 2d sprite usage obviously takes time to do.

FAN SERVICE
I like Dead Fantasy for the reasons you mention. Its cheesy, its over the top, it makes no sense, its stupid. It also has stupidly kickass choreography. I really dont care who's fighting who, when they fight like that.
what I also don't like is how all the damn voices are pretty much DoA voiceovers...mainly Kasumi and Ayane for both DoA (save Hitomi) and Final Fantasy characters. Let alone Tifa's a druken master now? phail.
I'm with the piece where they're not even using their style. I mean half the stuff I saw Yuna doing was shit Kasumi does in DoA. Tifa apparently is a druken master and know's Chun'Li's SAII (and whoever was up against her apparently parries....do we need another Wong/Daigo Chun Li/Ken parry match reference?) and Kairi? why the hell is she even there?
seriously man. I'm all for crossovers for things like this, but make it close to their game counterparts. It's bad enough we bitch about game movies being crap but when you have the chance to do it yourself, at least do it right.
DF2 is indicitive of what I hate about most of these fan videos and, with regard to Advent Children especially, what's wrong with Final Fantasy videos. Its the usual "Massive attack then bigger attack then counter-attack, rinse, repeat" garbage. None of it makes any sense. I enjoy over-the-top action, but when theres no real sense of any actual danger or finesse, its just insipid. I honestly enjoyed Haloid far more than this, but that was because there was actual damage being done and there was literal consequence; when one of the grunts or elites was killed, they were dead, as opposed to DF2 where nothing hurts anyone at all.
In essence, Big explosions/summons= cool if theres danger to the characters and a sense of drama.
Explosions/summons/bullets+lack of any danger and a lack of any drama=trite, superfulous bullshit.
Personally I'm not a fan of this sort of thing, I find it gets a bit boring and repetative after a while. Having said that, it is well choreographed.
Personally, I like it for the choreography and set pieces. I'm a nut for awesome fight scenes and choreography and honestly, I can't think of a better choreographed fight scene than this. I'm dead serious when I say (type) that.
Is it original? Does it have a point? No. But that's honestly not why I'm watching it. If all the characters were generic people, I'd still enjoy it just as much.
I will say though that Monty Oum's talent would be better served as a fight choreographer for someone else's animated movie. It is sort of being wasted on this fan made stuff.
@Mozgus
I didn't see it, and after reading the comments on there my mind still hasn't changed.
It's cool choreography and that's "the point", it's either enough for you or it isn't. Monty Oum makes eye candy fights, take it or leave it as you will. There's enough people like it that there's a lot of public good will towards his projects, simple as that.
Agreed with GuitarAtomik: it'd be nice to see him do work on a project with a bit more depth to it.
Oh, and I didn't comment when they ran the story because I really don't care whether people think it's awesome or not. If you find it entertaining, great. If you don't, fine. I'm not about to debate about it.
AllDFan pretty much nailed it. I never got the whole point of Intro, side 1 ass whoops, help comes, side 2 ass whoops, help comes, rinse repeat. someone does a big attack and they survive it.
Yet everyone apparently has infinite health on cause no one's really taking a bit of damage. at least to the point there's some slow down.
and I also agree with Guitar Atomik. Stop the fan service and get some actual cred.
Like I said in the post about DF2, it's really well done but is nothing more than fan service.
I suppose that's the point, but it's a real shame that something like that seems to be more popular than Paul Robertson's work which is so amazing, original, and creative that I can not begin to describe it.
