Spore could've been a game w/out competitor, selling well, and setting a standard clones fail to meet yet dig-out a new genre in their efforts. Instead it's like a Molneaux game, simple as hell in the actual gameplay so the potential for variety is wasted. Multiple gameplay mechanics, fleshed-out, if connected to activities like Creature Creation would generate situations of nigh infinite replayability, feeding into each other. Carmack's concern it wouldn't sell as well b/c of the subject matter's likely to be proven true b/c it's a game of fantastic subject and crude gameplay. Light Gamers, who liked Digital Dollhouse*, and weren't bored by humans in houses but empathic b/c they're humans in houses won't connect to aliens.

Killer Instinct was cool: great graphics for the time, a werewolf, dinosaur, iceman, Mohawk, robot, fireman, and a ninja. A new one could have better gameplay.
Respect is a form of regard that recognizes worth. The word is misapplied to mean "kindness", "politeness", etc.
