About Me

About time I updated this freaking thing!

For those who already know me, I am Monodi. Those who doesn't, well, I am Monodi.

I got such a growing passion of gaming through the years and now I am currently in college starting my courses of Game Design as well!

I consider myself a Nintendo fanboy from all my life, but I have been much more in contact with titles for PC recently. Not that I am abandoning one, but I think it pretty much could cover the best the industry has to offer.

I am up for the philosophy that gameplay is more important than graphics, but I think graphics and technology are also a crucial part of the industry and experience even.

There Are No Sequels, Just Expansions.

Remember when you were young in the '80s or '90s when you played your first games? Wasn't it something incredible to see such a complex invention were you were doing something for the TV instead of it doing the show for you? Remember how it was almost impossible to us to figure how a game was developed? I think as we grow up, we lose the ability of enjoying things and just see reality in a cool-gray tone rather than sky blue.

We are gamers now, and if there is something we might already know is how our favorite titles are made now, they are not a mystery as in your younger years when everything was spectacular. A problem with being adults now, is that we think in a very self-washed manner that we think everything is boring and painful when it is just how we manage ourselves to think about the world. Instead of liking games for what they are now, we are appreciating the scene behind the wire-frames instead of the actual picture. Find the signature instead of gazing the painting. We all became critics of things that we all forgot why we liked them in first place.

I find it easier to give examples when discussing a topic, but unfortunately, the following example has been too bashed now.

Left 4 Dead 2 is a sequel for what it is. It is a new setting, a new set of features and a whole new bunch of features. But we all instead of receiving it as a sequel, we are receiving it as "an expansion". I understand for what we are going now, because it is a title that uses Source and is still the basic concept of the previous game. But isn't that how sequels have always been in first place?

Think for a second there, are we following this logic to say that Super Mario Bros. 3 is a SHAMELESS, RIPPING PRODUCT for using the same basic concepts of the original Super Mario Bros.? The inclusion of the Tanooki suit, the inventory bar and the extra life rewarding mini-games, are not worth for their money because they use the basic engine of the old-time classic? Mario even shares the same pose as always now ...my God, they are even using the same system, the developers at Nintendo are disgusting melon-sized rats.

Mmm maybe I am using a wrong example on that too, let's see a different game. Marvel VS Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes. Probably my favorite a arcade fighter of all time, they include a great roster of characters of all tastes separated between the successful Japanese video game publisher and the iconic comic book company. But do you think it is also worth the cash for using the same basic concepts of Street Fighter II? Or perhaps, Fighting Street? They have the same 2D fighting concept and even use some of the old characters like Ryu. Mmm even the fighting system of kicks and punches to create combos is there. So wait, this seems bad as well, they are using the same idea of fighting under a time limit in a 1-on-1 combat with different mixtures of movements to execute. it has been shown all the time it wa the same game after all, our money has been abducted and wasted in such a horrendous way. Think of the food you could have gotten with that amount spent in that disgusting cash-in. Forget about the gauge system, and spectacular combos finishes, this is some serious leeching.

Perhaps, maybe my point is clear now, those grotesque video game companies have no right in reusing similar concepts as for as basic the are, they should not be in first person about shooting zombies, not about going to the end of the level on the right, or trying ot be better than your oponent befre time runs out.

How to Avoid Being Scammed

This is important now, luckily for you there is a simple method to avoid these negative complications and negative experiences.

The most important of all is to not buy any game that shares a reused concept, ever. Only stick tp the original because it is the way it intended to be without those "upgrades" they are only designed to suck your wallet dry.

Here is a simple format to give you an idea to start your purchases safely.

DO NOT BUY / JUST STAY IN

Super Mario Galaxy / Super Mario 64
Mother 3 / Dragon Quest
Madden 10 / Atari Football
Donkey Kong Country / Pitfall!

I hope my advice was enough to keep your entertainment and your wallet safe! Have a good day!

... I hate to admit it... but I'm a graphics wh0re. I'd usually rather play a remake of an older game with updated functions and graphics than the original. :(

Every single game with a grappling hook ever is an expansion pack for Bionic Commando, as is every shooter. Since you can collect items, every platformer and RPG ever should have been free DLC.
Also, since Hitler was in Bionic Commando, World War 2 was just a glorified mod.

Good stuff. I need to go back to Final Fantasy 1. Dragon Age is just the same thing, basically.

Also Way of the Samurai 3 is Karateka, with swords.

I know that I, for one, always preferred Rad Racer to the Gran Turismo and Forza series.
