Orange Box, can't go wrong with HL2, Episode 1, Episode 2, Portal and TF2....they are FPS though.

Anyway, get Dead Rising please, I love so much that game. Also Warriors Orochi, is just fun and addictive.

You can always trying renting, some games I've picked up since getting my 360 over two weeks ago. Dead Rising, Monster Madness, skate, Assassins Creed. I liked all of them. And the game I've been working on first Gears of War.

Devil May Cry 4 is a good beat'em up. Dead Rising is awesome. Eternal Sonata is a fun RPG with an amazing combat system. Lots of good FPS' out there (i.e. Bioshock and Orange Box) if you give them a chance.
Gears and Gears 2,Ninja Gaiden 2, CRACKDOWN.....What? It was awesome, GTA IV, Rock Band,etc,etc
I was going to suggest some, until I read, "avoid FPS".. thing is, its hard to cut out all FPS simply because they are an FPS. Many games are 3rd person, but play like a FPS shooter, like the GRAW, or Gears of War. But you would be missing out on some AMAZING games. Like Oblivion.
Ikaruga, Lost Odyssey, Psychonauts, and Halo 3. That's it. Everything else is either a lot better on PC or a shitty arcade game.
Oh and if you like those types of games, get Ninja Gaiden 2, Grand Theft IV, or TES IV: GOTY Edition.

If you play Galaga for a half hour a day, Ikaruga is a must. Also, Omega 5 is a pretty killer side scrolling shooter. Both are cheap and on XBL.
If you want to play some laggy, online Ikaruga with me, my GT is Padre Chester.

I'm willing to play some FPS like Bioshock and Half-Life 2, but overall, I just don't generally like shooters, third person or first person. I do like side-scolling or vertical old-schoolish shooters, though.
I have a trial of Gold, but no games to play on Live. If I ever wanted to though, I would just go out and get a card.
All I have to say is Dead Rising. I so wish I had a 360 so I could play it :(

i bought a 360 also, Thursday will be 2 weeks. I can't figure out how to get it online as, I get my internet for free , (neighbor) shhhhh. Maybe one day i'll figure it out
