Well I just finished Call Of Duty 4 and I've got a question. (So spoilers I guess.)

When you're on the hotel building, sniping (I think its during Act II?), and you snipe that guy who gives them the nuke, they if you do what I did, I hit him, he falls down. But then isn't he the same guy at the ending that you take down with a pistol? I thought I already had him dead during that sniping level. If not, then who was the guy I sniped?
