honestly, I hated Singularity...but I seem to be in the minority on that.
Nier was a good game that people complained on. It also has the best soundtrack this year.
SMB All-Stars 25th anniversary I hated on the principal that it's so mediocre a celebration that it turns itself in to junk.
Crackdown2 and Lost Planet2 as well were met with general dislike.

I think it's a funny idea. Have you ever seen Dave Chappelle's Player Hater's Ball? Personally it was one of my favorite (if not my all time favorite) skits on the show:

I have a very robust philosophy on objective hating, and I'll put it simply - I hate things that are bad, and I'm not afraid to say it. In this day and age, companies owe you nothing - they're out to make money, and you're a mark - plain and simple.
Unless it's a small time indie dev that makes games out of the goodness of their own heart, and lives off a trust fund, or programming on the side, odds are they don't give a shit about you. Because of this, I'm disgusted by what I like to call "all good" coverage that's plaguing many sites today. You can see this sort of coverage on a lot of websites (not Destructoid, thank God), and it really speaks to how big of a cash cow gaming has gotten, and how commercial it has become.
You have these HUGE preview "events" where people are being flown out on the company's dime, to preview a game. They give you free stuff, free food, drink, and the like. I've been to a few of them myself - they're awesome.
Now, what type of coverage usually comes out of this? To sum it up, you find the following two lines:
*"You thought ["x" game, that is like the game in question] was good? Well wait until you see this!"
*"The game had a few minor issues (that are barely mentioned in half a paragraph, if at all), but the overall experience was great and you should buy it.
I think it really does a disservice to consumers. All it does is create hype (Epic Mickey), and when the game actually DOES come out, and sucks, the consumer will be hit with a ton of bricks. Not every consumer follows up to the minute gaming news - not everyone knows that as more and more playtests of [x] game are shown, the game looks worse and worse.
Personally, when I previewed Epic Mickey at E3, I saw potential, but really found a lot of issues with it. When it came out, at the very least, some potential early adopters would sit back and maybe wait for a review or two before dropping what sometimes, is their only $50 that month for gaming. If that consumer only saw previews that talked about how amazing it was, they'd be inclined to buy it - and how would they know, without a demo?
Anyways it's a pretty elongated view on the topic, but I have no problem with rational hating. You can always choose not to read something you don't like, and in my opinion, a few haters here and there beat an entire crowd of yes men, or buyer's remorse.
ESSAY.

I would point out Metroid: Other M, but it probabaly deserves its complaints from what I've heard (i.e. it's bad as a Metroid game, it's merely ok as an action game).
Super Mario Galaxy 2 bored me stiff this year and I had much more fun with the original, but I'll have to go back through SMG1 to see if it's not just the nostalgia talking.

Hmmmm...I loved the idea of Nier and played a few hours but the gameplay just sucked (for me). Fetch quests, backtracking, all of that is kryptonite to me. Maybe one day I'll try again because I have heard the plot is great and lord knows that soundtrack was breath taking but as first impressions go, it really let me down.
A game I hated was Castlevania: Lord of Shadows. Ugh. What a dick-stompingly uninspired, boring game. Hated the combat, hated the story (got about half way through before I decided I was wasting my time) and the whole package left me shrugging. I have heard the ending was neat and know that some people enjoyed this game but for me, I was sorry that I gamefly'd it.

I can't really say I had a case of the butthurt this year. New Vegas was disappointing, but not to the point of murder.
Well....maybe a little bit.
I like the idea, though.

Darsiders got praised like crazy when it came out. They said a "mature zelda" (That was my selling point). I played 2 hours, it was boring, I goozexed it. There was nothing interesting happening. I hated the complicated controls, the settings. My mistake was to buy it, instead of renting it.
What makes me hate a game is the amount of money lost in the process. Otherwise, I just don't like it, and stop playing.
I bought FFXIII for 20$ and for the price, I'm enjoying it.

I hated the fact I bought Vanquish for full retail. I've put maybe ten hours into the game, and I expect that I'm done with it for good, save perhaps a playthrough sometime much later. While the action is fun and the controls were tight, the lack of content just straight up murdered the game for me.
It left me wanting more, and not in the way Bayonetta did, in that I was hungry for a sequel. It left me wanting more because I'd finished the game twice and was wondering where the hell the rest of my sixty dollars went. You can say that the game is designed to be replayed all you want, I see a game that can be beaten in a single evening without skipping the cutscenes.
I think the reason I hate the game is that the gameplay was pretty good. It was a lot of fun to zip around cover, throw a grenade and shoot it to blow up the enemies, etc, but the game could have used another year to double the length and the variety of enemies. It feels like half a game instead of a full one, which is a shame coming from Platinum Games.

I don't think I really hated anything this year. Nearly everything I bought turned out to be remarkably solid.
Except:
Doctor Who: The Adventure Games
It was such a squandered opportunity. A point and click adventure marred by some bad recycled puzzles and piss poor controls involving the mouse. I basically begged for a Doctor Who adventure game for years and when I finally get four for free, they're badly optimised and hindered by a ton of bland design decisions.
At least the Cybermen and Vashta Nerada episodes felt halfway decent.
Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse
The added depth to Sam & Max was really needed after Season 2 and it had the dark humour of the comics. It was one of those "parts were better than the whole" games though. Too much reliance on Max's powers, bad optimisation with the lack of customisation and that faux-analogue control was dreadful for all the timed puzzles.
This might come as a shock but...
*drum roll*
Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days wasn't that bad.
There, I said it. As Ice-T once said "SUCK MY ASS! COMMENCE DA' HATE!"

Check out the MAG forums... oh, and pretend that you're on the SVER faction and that you always win because of your elite skillz! You'll see some pretty awesome examples of hate! :)
i didn't really play any of the hated games this year, but would like to help out with some title suggestions:
Come out and hate
Sweet hate o' mine
Hate Trek, the hate generation
Stop, drop and hate
The hating tree
Hey Ash, whatcha hatin?
Hatebook, the hating network
Hatepocalypse
An inconvenient hate
Wry Guy's Hate Bait
i'll let you know if i think of any more

@Nic & Occams:
Holy crap, Darksiders, yes. I felt it was one of the worst entries to the hack n' slash genre in quite a while.
Also, Kane N' Lynch 2 was indeed pretty okay. I'm not entirely sure, but I think that got some hate.

I think the only game that I bought this year that I hated was probably Shiren the Wanderer on DS. I know it didn't come out this year, but I bought it this year, and I was all excited to finally figure out what the big deal with all this 'rogue-like' business was.
Man, that game is really lame.
...but that's totally not what you're looking for, now is it? I can't think of any games that were really hated by the community, especially not to the degree of something like FFXIII. I don't know man, times are pretty good.

Wait a minute, I think Skyward Sword would work! People were all in a tizzy about that when the showing at E3 failed, in addition to the strange in-between, trying-to-please-everyone graphical style. That might be a good topic for your series.
I don't typically give any times to games I'm sure I'll hate so I have nothing to contribute. Still, it sounds like an interesting idea for a blog so I look forward to what you come up with.
Wow, I don't think I purchased a single game in 2010 that I hated. Let's see... SMG2, Pokemon HG, a bunch of downloads... Etc. Etc.
Oh, literally the ONLY thing I hated was the demo for Jett Rocket on WiiWare. Cruddy 3D platformer with Sunshine influence. (refillable jetpack, tropical setting, maybe it's a slight strech)

Far and above anything else I hated last year - Final Fantasy 13 takes the cake. I'm extending beyond 'games'. I hated it more than any 'thing'. I hated it more than being unemployed. I hated it more than being poor.
@LK404: Don't write off rogue-likes based off of one game.

Are old games that we played just recently a valid option? if so count me in for RE5, seriously, it had so much going for it but is marred by so many design choices it craps a 9 into a 7 or 6.5 even:
-The Inventory System: fuck, i can understand limiting it to make things harder, but taking out the pause when accessing it AND splitting it in half with a forced A.I. partner? that's dumb, also takes me to my next complaint.
-Sheva: Goddamn it, this bitch wasted ammo, got killed stupidly (sometimes to be fair), took a half of my already limited inventory, spent single green herbs when i had a red herb to mix with and nagged constantly with my scape routes when enemies got close to me.
-Naturally shielded enemies: Ok, i get it, you want to up the ante Capcom but artificially upping the difficulty by making every single fucking enemy have some sort of natural kevlar (and in late stages even regular manjinis got bullet proof vests and masks) is not the best way, come on! i just shot that Giant Manjini in the knee with a fucking shotgun at least make him stagger, Reapers and their one-hit-kill move were specially annoying but the one that takes the cake in ludicrous excuses for invulnerability definitely are the Big Man Manjinis, i mean what? does their fat make em bulletproof somehow? seriously.
I can't say i hate it the same way i hate Madworld, but at the very least it's very disappointing to see what could have been a great game struck down by stupid design choices.

Donkey Kong Country Returns waggle is annoying for a platformer like this. I hated the controls on that game.
Deadly Premonition. Everyone says the story is great and I believe them...mainly because after being subjected to its terrible gameplay, I'll take their word for it before trying to find out for myself. That's the first game I've ever played that I would've rather watched on Youtube.
I hated the game Steam played with my wallet. Do I look like I'm made of money?
But I have to second the Castlevania "meh". I bought the Collector's Edition because of the inclusion of the soundtrack and the fact that the cover-art wasn't a shitty rip of an in-game character model like the standard edition. I'm still toward the beginning of the game because I keep 'remembering' I own other games I'd rather play. Also, Fuck the colossi.

I really like this idea!!
I can't really think of many games I bought last year that I hated/disliked. My number of purchases were way down (I still haven't got NHL 11!!).

I'm going to be honest here, I hate the people who hate Metroid: Other M. There are so many things I want to scream at those people.
As far as actual games, I hated Darksiders. I LOVED the demo, and I sincerely thought the game had an awesome premise. But I couldn't play the actual game for more than 10 minutes.

I don't think I out and out hated any game this year - or this generation, even. I was pretty damn disappointed with Darksiders and Red Dead Redemption, though.
I've actually started playing FFXIII lately, and to my shock - it ain't all that bad. In fact, I'd say it's one of the better Final Fantasies I've played since the PSX era. I like the characters, I love the battle system, and even better, I love the flow - the game is almost always focused. Everybody has been swallowing too much Hateraid if they really think this is a contender for Worst Game of 2010.

This is terrible. People were happy in 2010. YOU HAVE ALL RUINED MY SERIES.
I totally forgot about the Metroid: Other M scandal. That was a pretty controversial one. Kane and Lynch stirred up a lot of shit because of the old GameSpot scoring debacle too. The thing is I kind of need games that had a significant amount of hate built up against them. Games that people have made arguments for why it sucked. If I don't have arguments to counter-point it's a little harder to write on the hate.
Darksiders is one I'll be looking into along with Deadly Premonition and Nier.
@Manasteel: Honestly, 30 bucks is hard to say no to either way. It's really amazing that they didn't even change the SNES icon within the game, yeah, but the game was cheap and was only created as a limited release. It's just a collector's item. Seriously, there's no way you can genuinely hate the game because even if you want to sell it the thing is demanding ridiculous prices on Amazon and eBay. It's like making a profit on a game you didn't like. Hard to hate on that.
@Magnalon: I'm familiar with the skit, considering I used to be considered a hater. My nickname at work was Hater Mike, but that started to fade away after a while. Epic Mickey doesn't really look all that bad, but without a Wii I won't be able to add it to my list. One of these days.
@meteorscrap: Vanquish is actually a game I really love, so one of these days I'm sure I'll have to cover that too. If nothing else, mister Sterling helped stir up a bit of a storm on that one around here.
@dr_spaceman__: If you think of more by all means. Right now I kind of like the idea of saying I'm going to set a Hate Date with a game, but these are amusing.
@EternalDeathSlayer: I'm going to be very sad if someone actually put me in a game and I never knew.
@LK4O4: At the moment I have my eye on Phantom Hourglass as far as Zelda games goes. Lots and lots of people bitched about that one, and it was honestly one of my favorite Zelda games in recent history. I honestly wonder if there will be all that much controversy over Skyward Sword. For the most part people really try to like Zelda games. At least the console ones.
@Fame Designer: I highly doubt I'll hate the game on such an incredible level, but if you want to direct me toward some articles or let me know what you despite about the game it'll give me some material to work with for sure.
@EdgyDude: I've actually got a bit of a vendetta against Capcom for reviving so many franchises after the people who made them great have already left the company. Resident Evil 5 is one such game. If Capcom decides to make another Dead Rising now that Inafune has left the company and it ends up missing the entire point of the series, I will be quite disappointed. I'll consider it.
@the7k: Red Dead is likewise a game I was a bit disappointed in considering all the hype, but I should have really seen this coming considering I don't often enjoy open world games. I have to admit the story in itself was worth trudging through it, but I honestly can't say I had any real run with it. The only time I can think of where I legitimately got really into it was the Undead Nightmare Undead Overrun multiplayer mode. Aside from that the entire game felt like a fetch quest that was getting in the way of me enjoying the plot.
My Game of the Year it most certainly was not, but I was more neutral toward it than anything else.

@pedrovay2003
I totally agree. Other M may not have been one of the best Metroid games in the series, but dammit if I didn't enjoy the hell out of every minute of it.
I don't think I hated any games this past year. I mean, I usually, for the most part, know what I'm going to like. Honestly, I hated that I didn't get to play all the games I wanted to. =/ Happy New Year, guys!

I don't think there is a game I just outright HATED. There were quite a few disappointing ones though...
Crackdown 2-
Take out the gangs and gang leaders and instead throw in mutants. I was really looking forward to this one because I thought the first one was really fun but could have used some improvements. However, I don't know if it's just me, it felt like a step BACK.
Kane and Lynch 2-
I am one of those oddballs that actually enjoyed the first Kane and Lynch. The interesting characters and multiplayer kept me coming back. With this one, they pretty much took out a story and the character development for slightly better gunplay and graphics. This one felt really shallow to me.
And...
Super Mario Galaxy 2-
Now, this game nowhere compares with the other two games because this game is actually good. However, as someone who thought that Super Mario Galaxy wasn't impressive, I felt the same here. I'm not sure if I have just lost touch with my inner Nintendo self, but I had to shove myself forward just to play it. It felt like I had done all of it before.

hate? not much for me. sonic colors. i thought it would be great and it was... till i moved on more. there were very few levels that i enjoyed and the final battle was lacking. i was hopping for some new super form but that was too much to ask for i guess. Another thing is the power ups. i didnt find all them all that fun. like the hover ability. it was a pain to get places with that power.
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.
I thought the story was decent, the voice acting was good but everything else I absolutely hated. It was a chore for me to play through and finish that game.
I have to say that in all of 2010 Enslaved was my most regretted purchase (seeing as how I paid full price for it).

Hate manifested right around dissappointment and busted games for me this past year.
I hated how jank Dark Void was. It shoulda been awesome.
I hated how busted Fable III was, despite its good points.
I hated how shallow and jank Alan Wake was, despite the story being pretty slick. Could not finish.
I hated the Sims 3 for a while, because my wife spent half her gametime troubleshooting it.
I hated having to search for objects in Other M. You know, in that paused view.. Took forever, really busted the flow in that game.
I hated that Star Trek Online didn't ship for consoles. I wanted as much chance to be underwhelmed as PC users.
But specific, full game hate? Not so much this year, really. No Infinite Undiscovery's this year.
I hated how jank Dark Void was. It shoulda been awesome.
I hated how busted Fable III was, despite its good points.
I hated how shallow and jank Alan Wake was, despite the story being pretty slick. Could not finish.

2010 Game I hated?
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Why?
The campaign's more linear, the cinematics' are annoyingly frequent, so does the QTE's. Also, why the heck do I have to go online to "play offline"(botmatch)? Of course, the common counter argument;
"Why focus on singleplayer? It's a game popular for it's multiplayer!"
Well, if it is such a game, then why do they even bothered to try make a singleplayer? What's the point of adding a singleplayer part at all if the game's actually for multiplayer? If they just did CoD:BO a straight online, or even yet, an MMO-shooter, I'd never complain to that. But they didn't, right?
How's that for hate? :D

So, for large commercial releases, I'm going with Metroid: Other M. It is the only game that I bought this year where I played it for a couple hours, felt great disappointment, and ended up trading it in (kept the bonus art stuff). Why they thought it would be a good idea to force the player into first-person to fire missiles is beyond me, and top that off with the inability to move while in first-person. And really...Samus doesn't use all the cool powers she has because some dude she doesn't like doesn't want her to? I'd rather they use the "oh no, she lost them all again" excuse. And whee! Auto-aiming! Please, hold my hand some more!
Give us a proper 2-D game...I mean, it worked for Donkey Kong, Kirby, and SMB. And the Metroids before Prime. Or just give us another Prime. I'd be fine with that.
As for lesser-known titles, the "hated it" award goes to Zombie Chainsaw Massacre, and XBLA Indie game. I accidentally paid for it, thinking maybe it would get better. I mean, it seemed quirky and a mindless little game reminiscent of old school beat 'em ups. It didn't get better, and proved to be mindless in a bad way. Thankfully, it was only 80 points.

I don't think I played anything this year that I hated. I finally went back and put a lot of time into Fallout3 GOTY which was a definite love/hate thing. Was pretty disappointed in the new Castlevania, but hate is too strong. Hm. I got no hate for 2010. Sorry. :)
I hate that I bought GTA Chinatown Wars on PSP for $40 and then watched it release on iPhone right after that for $10. Not even sure if that was this year or '09 now. Hahaha

@Artemus and pedrovay2003: Feel free to provide counter-arguments to all the bitching about Other M, buys.
@Agent9: More than likely I'll end up covering every Sonic game under the sun.
@ChillyBilly: I knew from the demo onward that I was just not going to enjoy a game like that. Enslaved seemed to get by entirely on its cinematics. While I enjoyed some of the concepts behind it, it's really hard to feel pumped when it doesn't feel like you're really any part of the story. You feel so incredibly disconnected from Monkey because he practically does everything on his own.
I'd be interested to hear the other side from people who really loved Enslaved.
@wisearse: I similarly did not even bring myself to finish the Black Ops single player campaign, and Black Ops in itself might deserve a nod. I'm sure there's lots of Anti-Treyarch people going "No Infinity Ward, no deal." I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people level hate at them even though as a company Treyarch had nothing to do with Infinity Ward's dismissal.
@the rest: Damn you people and your LACK OF HATE. Clearly I need to start browsing some more ignorant websites. I can just imagine throwing myself into the D-Toid community trying to do a "confront the haters" type thing. I'd probably just end up back on the Podsumaki Podcast.

@wry
they didn't change the logo because all that is on the disc is a rom and an emulator to get it to work.
I'm not going to say that the All Stars isn't a good game compilation or worth this kind of money. I'm only saying that releasing a 17 year old port of a 25 year old game as new is lame. It's not even the good rom that included World.
I awarded it my disappointment of the year
"This really wouldn't be on a lot of people's disappointment lists and it probably wouldn't have been on mine if I were older or younger. This year however, I turned 25. Maybe it's a reflection of disappointment with my own life or just the way that Nintendo of America has treated me over the past decade, but I am upset at a $30 rom. Sadly, it isn't even the original Super Mario Bros. Instead this is a 17 year old remake of the original. Funny thing is that it's not even the best version of the remake. That one includes Super Mario World.
It is painfully obvious that this was all put together to milk the franchise. They didn't have a Mario for Holiday 2010 and sales were slipping. So, when they figured out that Mario was reaching a milestone, they knew they had something. This is all a real shame too as the E3 presentation genuinely got me excited for dusting my Wii off. I'm not going to say that there isn't anything for the Wii, but I'm just not playing it. With so much attention now being afforded to Nintendo, I had a thought that maybe I had judged the system wrong. Maybe I have. I don't know.
I'm just not happy with Nintendo of America. I haven't been for years and this is simply icing. I'm not even complaining about the quality of the games. If you haven't played this I would suggest searching ebay, goozex or any other store for an old copy of the original. They are all good games. I'm annoyed that this is all there is to it. My 25 years of gaming with this company comes out to a poor rehash. I would have rather had the option to pay full price for an NES, SNES and Gameboy Mario compilation disc than a single rom. What about the Gameboy Advance version of SMB 3 with all the added content? You know something fresh for the world to appreciate.
This wasn't a milestone, it was a cash in and it killed me a little inside."
also, if you are looking for some haterade, Arc Rise Fantasia got a lot of it for their dub even though it can be turned completely off. It debuted at a discount price as well and people still ran from it.

I actually liked Infinite Undiscovery despite its many many many flaws.

oooo I also forgot all of Yakuza 3's content cut bitching. Man that game received a lot of hate before it dropped.
I really liked both Darksider's and FFXIII... struggling to think of anything I hated.
Kane and Lynch 2 and i only played the demo :P

Singularity wasn't bad. But mediocre AT BEST.
What do I hate, though, from 2010?
Hm...
I tend to hate on COD.
I didn't understand why people hated on Backbreaker. Any time I played it with my cousin it was fun, and he seems to enjoy it. Hell, I don't even know the mechanics and scoring of football but I enjoyed it. Especially that ridiculous little Tackle Alley game.
and, what the hell. I hate God of War.
Hope I gave you ideas.
P.S. read the comments and someone mentioned "goozexed". I want to join that site but I keep fearing I'm going to type "goosex.com" every time I try to go to it...
