About Me
Monday reviews aren't on Monday. It's old school, trust me.

OK, so I've been and editor for a while now. I probably should fill this part in a bit more fully.

I've been here a while. In most all likelihood longer than you. I was here when the first cblog post went up, and before. I like to believe I rep Dtoid old school. I fell in love with this community the second the cblogs opened up and posted all that I could as Cowzilla3 (you may remember him as an angry banana). I fell off the radar a bit as I started working for other sites and my time got stretched, but I never left Dtoid and finally, one day, my dreams came true.

Now I'm the Weekend Editor at Dtoid (and sometimes a game reviewer). If you didn't know me before as Cowzilla3, then "Hi! I'm Matt Razak. They let me out of the cage on weekends." I feel I should put the customary Dtoid rocks things here, but you already know that. I'd put my regular posts up below, but I don't have any (yet). Needless to say, I love Destructoid and everyone here.

Big group hug.

I'll see you on the weekends and we can celebrate Hammer Day together.

I also write movie reviews for a living. Sometimes I'll post them here. If you liked my review I would appreciate your kind clickage here. It would be most helpful in feeding the starving African orphans I take care of.

Brüno brings the funny back After Borat came out, and was the funniest movie in years, the question was how long could the film's star, Sacha Baron Cohen, keep up his trademark comedy of tricking people into thinking he was someone completely different now that he was an international superstar of epic proportions. Even if he did find some people who didn't realize the joke would it still be funny? The answer to the former question, as his new movie Brüno shows, is that he can keep it up for at least one more film, and the answer to the latter question is yes, it's still hilarious.

Brüno is a character Cohen created for his sketch comedy much like Borat, but Brüno is a gay Austrian fashion reporter with, if it is possible, even less social graces than Borat. In the movie he loses his job as an Austrian reporter and must go to America to find his fame and fortune as a famous actor. Much like Borat the film's story is really just another excuse to run people through the ringer of outrageous interviews and pranks, but unlike Borat, which had a surprising amount of emotional depth to it, Brüno is played far more for surface laughs. Of course emotional depth is hard to get when you're dressed in shirts two sizes to small and booty shorts for a large part of the film.

Every movie should be judged on its own merits, but not comparing Brüno to Borat is impossible as there are so few films out there that do what they do this well or at all. That being said Brüno is not as good as Borat. It just isn't as fresh and unexpected as the first film, and the film's star is nowhere near as relatable as Borat. That being said the movie is still fall on the floor funny. A step down from almost dying of laughing is still not being able to breathe laughing. Brüno does some pretty hilarious stuff and if the pranks aren't quite as good as Borat's than some of Brüno's lines are better than anything Borat ever said. The final scene involving Brüno and another man stripping each other and making out in the ring at an MMA event is truly hilarious. That is until you think about the crowds reaction, and start getting depressed.

What Borat showed for race issues in America, Brüno does for sexuality, though not as well. Borat seemed to uncover some pretty nasty truths about American culture far more subtle, whereas Brüno seems just shove his sexual preference in people's faces it makes the film seem like Cohen is tryring too hard at parts to get a rise out of people.Of course he does; the aforementioned scene gets the crowd so angry that they start throwing things at them, including a metal chair. It's pretty depressing to think that people are that vehemently angry about two men kissing that they can't clearly see that it is obviously a joke. Do people actually think that gay men are so sexually active that they'd just start having sex in the middle of an MMA ring, or were they just angry at the actions in general?

Waxing philosophically about the film's underlying social commentary, the rest of the movie is just as hilarious with some scenes that are sure to be talked about for years to come including a mother who says her baby can lose ten pounds in one week for a photo shoot. Some of the scenes do beg the question of if they were staged or not, but after the first ten minutes or so you're laughing too hard to really care.

Clicks for beer money

Bruno is an Homosexual

He does stereotypical Homosexual things, such as House Decoration, or Fashion Shows. It is cutting edge.

Also, Paragraphs please.

"That being said Brüno is not as good as Borat." To me that says its basically not even worth the time it would take to watch it. Borat robbed me of my time more than anything else...then laid the icing on the cake with naked obese men. Unforgivable.

Garison: He was doing it long before those other idiots came in. Unlike the others though, Matthew has been a big part of this family long before he became an editor. He deserves the pass.

If anyone has a right to post movie reviews here, it's Cowzilla(13?). I remember him doing this series before I even got here, I'm not sure if it was for the Examiner though. Just sit back and be grateful that there is still a familiar staple of old Dtoid still here.

Any man who thinks this has 0 taste. Cohen is an unfunny asshole who's shtick is "STEREOTYPE DOING RANDOM WACKY THINGS", I hope he dies during filming someday, fuck him and his horrible style of comedy, its an insult to real comedians.

Hm, who's nicer, Nanbu or his personal troll.

Anyway, I'll admit, his humor is very low brow, but it's the same reason people (such as myself) enjoy Jackass so much, it's just funny. You have to indulge you mind into some very shallow and retarded things as a human being. If you constantly look for comedy that is funny AND smart and never even look at stupid shit, your head may explode from smugness.

There's beauty in the ridiculous and nonsensical, creativity and brilliance in the intellectual, and farts and dicks in the stupid. It's a fact of life, just indulge. You'll feel dirty and hypocritical, but at least you had a good laugh, and that's all that matters in life; just enjoying the ride.

I saw the film earlier today, and I enjoyed it. Though I liked Borat more, its still worth seeing if you're a fan of Cohen's brand of humor.

BAWWWWW

You guys have 0 taste and all deserve to rot in hell, because you like something that I don't. I love to be condescending and aggressive in an attempt to devalue other people's opinions.

while i was sitting and enjoying the movie an older man was in the audience also. So the meat spin happens totally funny to said old man but the moment that mma scene happens he was up in arms and walked out of the movie.

My very simple, easily worded opinion:

I liked this film. It was very funny. Very, very funny, in fact. If you like Borat, you will like this very much. Very.

There are some seriously briliant moments in Bruno, many of which will be burned into my mind for a long time to come. A sequence which is building up to a Harrison Ford interview literally had all eight people in the audience in hysterics! Like Razak, it comes reccomended :)
