The Island- Page 2 (Also, Screw You Mxyzptlk)
Matthew Blake | 3:13 PM on 05.31.2008 11 comments

In case you haven't already, you can see the very beginning of this comic here:

The Island- Page 1

Now, then, on to the new page...

Like the title says, a big shout out goes to Mxyzptlk, who apparently can read my mind and knew exactly what was going to be on this page. Curses! Hopefully, the rest of the comic won't be that predictable, although the updates might be a little slower next week.

I mentioned in my last post that this project held a number of challenges for me. This was one of them. My anatomy skills weren't that great, especially when it came to drawing realistic females, so I decided to use this project as an opportunity to draw plenty of boobies. And trees. Lots and lots of trees. I'm sure there's a Freudian joke in there somewhere, but I'm too lazy to look for it right now.

In any case, what does Destructoid think? Looking good so far?

EDIT: Logo added for +5 Prettiness.

EDIT2: Next Page

Is the volleyball on fire?

@Spartacus: Don't worry, the next page will be up in a day or two... or will it?

@Bbrigg1: It was my sad attempt at motion blur.

@Mxyzptlk: If you win, I get half- it's only fair. :P

Island inhabited by entirely beautiful women playing volleyball?

DOA?

This is some extreme beach volley ball.

Also, this seems a little low quality. If this isn't the true final product, could you link to a high quality version for every page?

P.S. I am terribly sorry if I just insulted you.

I'm betting you're referring to the toning; I use a program called Manga Studio to handle all of those tones that are neither black nor white, and then export it to Photoshop. The problem, and the issue I have had with the process, is that instead of keeping the tones in full like they are shown initially, they are turned into the massive dots you see there. I assume this is done for printing purposes (like how they print color magazines with teeny red, blue, and yellow dots), but i have yet to discover how to turn off this 'feature'. Your guess is as good as mine.

I don't see why you have to export it to photoshop; Manga Studio can do all of the things needed for a comic.

Well, I have to export it because otherwise, I just get a teeny-tiny JPEG of the page that looks terrible. I export to Photoshop so that I can resize it (believe me, it was friggin' huge originally) to make the dots look less awkward. Oh, well...
