I have been a member on Destructoid for a while now and decided it was about time to introduce myself… I’m done with failing at blogging. I am a 23 year old female gamer. Video games are a relatively recent part of my life. As a child I was briefly introduced to video games when my parents bought our family a Nintendo. The relationship was broken off almost immediately when my mom realized that owning such a powerful device could mean that my dad would never be seen in public again. Alas, my life was video game free until about four years ago when I received Spyro as a gift. Men are a wonderful thing and they are responsible for my discovery of the best things in life; metal music, beer and video games.
With the reintroduction of video games into my life, I dived in head first with the very intense gameplay of Spyro. The little, purple dragon opened my eyes and I was hooked. After reaching the achievement of playing a game through to completion, I began searching for other games that could capture my attention. As an English major in college, playing any and every game that comes my way is not an option. So, obviously, with all the time on my hands, I chose the genre of RPGs to sink my teeth into. Final Fantasy won over my heart and soul with the existence of chocobos. I also thoroughly enjoy Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, and Persona.
After attending both an anime convention and a video game convention for the first time in my life this summer, I have come to more fully appreciate and understand the community involved. My respect for the world of video games is constantly increasing. Individuals who merely play games are missing out. After having the opportunity to meet and converse with the intelligent and witty minds of Dtoid’s own Jim Sterling and Destin from Screwattack this summer, I can confidently say that my life is better since I have become a gamer… and this isn’t only because of all the sexy men I get to meet. The graphic variety, the amazing music, and the stories only begin to explain my fascination.
When I am not playing video games, I can be found reading (right now I am enjoying Chuck Palahniuk’s Diary, A Novel), watching anime, or being a real person with school and a job. My goals as a gamer include becoming proficient at first person shooters and not having to hide in shame after playing games such as Call of Duty. I am very excited to be a part of this community and getting to know everyone.
Welcome to the Dtoid community Maromi. Glad to hear you decided to introduce yourself, and with a great introduction. I'm a big Spyro fan myself, seeing as he's a dragon and I'm ... well you get the picture I hope. Feel free to blog more.
HE. LLO.
Welcome aboard, you will fit pretty good around here... I mean in the blogs, I guess.
Welcome! Don't feel bad about not being great at FPS's. I still have yet to accomplish my gamer goal of finishing an RPG (other than Pokemon). I have Final Fantasy XII sitting on the shelf waiting to be played.
Since there's lots of games in the past for you to play, it may be a good idea to get a Goozex account. It's the best way to play old games (see the guides for more information).
And remember: don't suck.
If you played your first Spyro four years ago you missed the good ones , try to play the PS1 ones ... Oh , and welcome to Dtoid blah blah Mr Sadistic will rape you blah what consoles do you own blah blah , you already know the rest ...
hello nice intro i fail at blogging for the moment just to lazy to write with any substance, case in point this comment
metal, beer and videogames.
ahhhh the modern day triforce :)
I have a feeling you'll fit in just fine around here, welcome!
"I am a 23 year old female gamer." How this blog doesn't have 30+ comments makes me wonder if Dtoid is even trying at this hour.
Anyway, welcome.
Welcome to Dtoid!
Metal, Spyro, English Major -and- Paranoia Agent?
PSN/MSN kthnxbai
=P
Men are a wonderful thing indeed.
Welcome to Destructoid, newbie-lady!
Metal Music, Beer, and VIdeogames?
You're definitely speaking my kind of language!
Seriously, welcome to Destructoid, and you're probably a better FPS player than I am. I am terribly horrible at them, but I can't peel away from their lure...
Metal, Beer, Videogames, and Vaginas!?!
WOW
Come play in IRC
Oh CountingConflict . . . how I've missed you . . . =P *ahem* Welcome to the community, be somewhat wary of some of the inhabitants though . . . -_-' Hahaha!
Welcome to the community, Maromi. Sypro is great, if you haven't played the original on PS1 I highly recommend it. It's just a shame that the quality of the series' titles seem to have reached the point of diminishing returns of greatness rather quickly.
"My goals as a gamer include becoming proficient at first person shooters"
It's cool I'm sure you have a lot of company in not being the best at FPS, myself included. That said, I was playing some Conduit online last night and I was the best person on my team. Let's just say we didn't win...or anywhere close.
"my discovery of the best things in life; metal music, beer and video games."
I think I love you?
Hello and welcome. Your officially cool in my book because you like Golden Sun, one of the best RPGs of the last decade. Ok that's a stretch, more like on the GBA. Also Welcome.
I'm late on greeting, but welcome to the site and all. =P
Great intro blog!!
If you want to try FPS games, the Dtoid crew seems to be a pretty awesome group to play with! I've played Killzone 2 with them a few times and it was a lot of fun! :)
Wow Maromi, when did you hop off my computer monitor and start blogging on Destructoid?
Hey, welcome! Any fan of Golden Sun and Persona is a cool person in my book.
Welcome Maromi! Always happy to see more girls join Dtoid. Also, I'm a pretty huge Satoshi Kon fan and I admit, I wanted to know more about a person cool enough to go under that username :)
Hope to see more of you around here!
Welcome aboard, you like cool stuff and that makes you a cool person by default. I'm also trying to get into FPS so you ever want an easy Quake live target look me up. I'm notoriously terrible.
Oh hai thur.
