A PC Bang sign. As you can see Koreans are not huge on respecting copyrights/trademarks.
Coming up on my fourth month in the Republic of Korea, I still haven't made it to any of this country's ubiquitous PC Bangs (pronounced PC + that thing your college roomate smoked out of while eating all the mustard in your fridge). For those of you that aren't familiar with them, PC Bangs are Korean internet cafes/gaming clubs which hit the scene around 1997. They offer cheap LAN multiplayer, some sorely needed social contact for Korea's tech-obsessed youth and ,in many, even restaurant style food and drink. Ever wonder why Starcraft continues to move units a decade after its release? Look no further than here. Blizzard's space RTS's popularity in Korea is legion; with dedicated Starcraft gaming channels and big money competetive championships.
I've been considering checking them out this weekend and was curious to see if anyone was interested in some pics and a write up about the experience. Let me know what you think.
PC Bangs are filled with smoke. Lots of smoke. If you are an asthmatic or do not like the smell of smoke, stay away. They also offer a wide variety of Korean games. If, you have a Korean SSID.
If only there was something like this in Columbia Missouri. Then I might have some way to entertain myself while being around people without drinking while I'm stuck here.
Columbia doesn't seem so bad. I go out there about every other year to visit the wife's family in Moberly. Columbia is where we go to actually do stuff besides get drunk.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

Also, what part of Korea are you in?
Also, SC is, at least at the PC Bang I go to, the least played game.
Everyone plays Sudden Attack, a Korean version of CS.
Or WoW.
or maplestory.. just mentioned it as a bit of history...
Whats sudden attack like? I've seen it on TV but its hard to tell how it'd feel to an old CS addict..
I'm in Jinhae... what about you?
Sudden Attack. Is worse that CS 1.6. The physics are horrible and it's just no fun whatsoever.
Oh, I'm in Seoul. Moreso in Yongsan.
See I wasn't a 1.6 hater but I can just imagine what an asian spin on CS would be.... *shudder* korean music covers
Oh man. You have no idea what I've heard over the years.
hides in a corner
Wait, dtoid isn't banned there? I for one would be very interested.
We're in the "good" korea
They were about to.
But, luckily for us, they announced Starcraft II right before the hammer hit.
