Saints Row 2 trailer is super "original"
MAFAKKA | 11:53 AM on 04.02.2008 5 comments

The "reveal" trailer of Saints Row 2 released a few days ago. It's pretty uninteresting, but for the sake of making my point, watch it if you haven't already.

The first thing i could think of was, "Wow, that was a minute of nothing." But then I was hit smack in the face with Deja Vu. Didn't I see a trailer like this recently? Something with a bunch of audio and no video, other than a shiny logo slowly coming into focus? Something just feels way too familiar. But Volition couldn't possibly be so bold to blatantly rip off someone else's ideas, right? Wrong...

Now, admittedly, when I first saw the Dark Knight trailer, I was pissed at the lack of information. BUT, I was also excited because it was "FREAKING BATMAN BEGINS 2!!." Any non-fanboy would look at this trailer and say "that was garbage." And I would agree. My question for Volition is this. Was your advertising team so out of ideas that they chose to copy one of the WORST styles for a reveal trailer?

Now don't get me wrong. I love the GTA games. I love pretty much every game that tries to imitate it. So of course, I thoroughly enjoyed Saints Row. But a trailer like this just gets me angry. Whereas the Dark Knight had a following and a hype worthy of a trailer that revealed nothing, it seems as if Volition feels that their sequel is just as popular to warrant such an "infoless" teaser. Well, sorry for sounding like a jerk, Volition, but your games will NEVER be as cool as Batman.

Done.

But it's still hilarious. I don't think they think their game is as cool as that, but Saints Row is a pretty blatent immitation of a lot of things, and imo surpasses GTA on a lot of things (the reason I won't be picking up GTA4). You've really gotta take it for what it is.

I noticed that too.

I didn't know that. Good find. However I really don't hate the trailer as much as everyone else. Gameplay and all that will come later, this is just a teaser. Consider yourself teased.

Neonie: If you liked Saint's Row, you will purchase and enjoy GTA4. Anything less would be uncivilized.
