EA, Spore and the lament of Australia
M3RCUR1 | 12:53 AM on 06.24.2008 8 comments

So the spore creature creator is out. I've played the demo and i liked it, even though i have had very minimal interest in spore.

The creature creator reminded me of Star Wars: Droid Factory (that may not have been the title actually, but it involved building droids), which i enjoyed IMMENSELY as a child.

So perhaps my liking of the creature creator has more to do with a memory then the game itself, that said however, i still want the full version of the creature creator.

And this brings us to the end of the road fellow Australians, for EA, in there ultimate wisdom have decided that, for some ungodly reason, that Australians do not need the creature creator. Nay, it seems that EA has once again, left us in the dark.

This is where a feeling of De Ja Vu creeps into our subconscious, and flashes of Rock Band come before our eyes.

EA must have a strong distaste for Australia for them to do this do us twice!

Their 'Worldwide Release' was a lie, just like the cake (is it a sin to have a little levity in the face of sheer stupidity?). This is not just a EA store screwup, i cant even get the creature creator from direct2drive, any credit cards based in Australia are declined, and anyone whose profile says they live in Australia is also denied. I'm considering getting it via torrent, and i fucking HATE piracy!

Oh why EA do you vex us so? Is it because we don't play your shitty madden games?

Well Done EA, well done.

Actually that Madden excuse makes a lot of sense.
EA is punishing us because our national sport doesnt require helmets.

CONSPIRACY!!!!

Damn you EA
Just like your events, you seem to have gotten crappier over the years here in Australia

Perhaps EA just hates any commonwealth nation?
They still hold a grudge about the war of independence lol.

But I want to make giant penis monsters....

*mumbles angrily as he is reminded about the lack of rocking out to March of the Pigs via Rock Band*

@ M3RCUR1:

Then why do Canada and the UK get love from EA?

WHY?!

Bastards!

Did you know that Australians can actually buy the Spore Creature Creator from the New Zealand website?

Theres actually a selection that lets you choose "Australia", but you have to pay in NZ currency. Which is only like 20 cents extra to the dollar.

Still, if they have it available to us on an NZ site, why not have it available to us from the AU store? The same reason games on Steam cost us almost double the price of their US counterparts. The same reason Dark Sector was banned simply due to dismemberment. The same reason GTAIV was edited to include no pools of blood, and the very same fucking reason that we do not have an R18+ rating.

It's because we live in fucking Australia.

@ JESTARINC

Europe gets backhand compliments, not love.
Rock bands prices were fucking ridiculous!

@ SKIRBBLE:

Bad blood between Aus and EA might explain their dislike towards us, but, correct me if I'm wrong, no EA games have been banned here. At least none I can recall.

It seems odd that NZ would get it though.

I don't get EA, and i definitely don't get out OFLC, why cant the politicians just get off their misinformed moral high horses and just give us a R18+ rating.

Is it available in stores over there? Over here in New Zealand, I saw it at retail a few days ago.
