I've been gaming on computer and console for about fifteen years. Watching the joy that is the video game go from being regarded as a silly, frivolous thing to be enjoyed only by children to a full fledged industry with a wide community of supporters has been pretty freakin' sweet. And we can all look forward to an even more better gaming experience with each passing fiscal quarter. Or maybe each passing holiday season. Whatever.
I know bigpopagamer already dropped this story a little while ago, but he neglected the most epic part of the story. On the third page Yahtzee talks about a gaming session and pizza party that he was privy too where he hung out with Eric Wolpaw from Valve and formerly of DoubleFine, Tycho (Jerry Holkins) who needs no pedigree and Jay Pinkerton, a very funny man who used to help run Cracked.com and is now working for Surreal Software.
Now apart from the fact that these four would probably form, Voltron-like, a force powerful enough to make me pee all of my liquids in laughter, I would have killed to be in on this little bit o' awesome. And the fact that it happened in my own town is even more unbearable. And the fact that I actually know Jay Pinkerton and probably could have swung an invitation (maybe) to this little soiree turns me into a crying, juddering heap of fail.
And you should go to Jay's site. Start with the comics. I promise it's worth it, but it is NSFW.
I'm not sure if this is already common knowledge, but I just got a Guitar Hero III bundle for the ex-bawks from the Red Octane store that included the game, a wireless guitar, a gig bag and a keychain for $99.99. The schwag is kinda cool, but it's still a really good deal without it. The same bundle is listed on Amazon for $150.00 and nearly everything else on teh internetz is comparably pricey. Am I getting excited about getting the shaft, or is this really a good deal? And as a secondary question, am I the only one who gives a sweet, steamy crap about picking up GHIII? Are you all saving your pennies for Rock Band instead?
