About Me
My blog posts suck, I repeat post (a minimum of 5 times, even on my own blog), and then I hide all the entries because all I did was embarrass myself. I'm in the Air Force and stationed at Hickam AFB, HI. Its not as nice as you'd think, especially because it hampers my online gaming experience! Damn high pings...

Quake 3 Sequel On the Horizon
Lukich | 8:53 AM on 08.09.2007 12 comments

First off, I know somebody wants to say "But what about Quake 4?" That wasn't a fucking sequel to Quake 3, that was a sequel to Quake 2. Done.

GameRiot posted an interview of Marty Stratto (Id Software's Executive Producer) talking about QuakeZero and another Quake game. Eh, I read the announcement somewhere else, Quake 4 mulitplayer was a flop, I was less than intrigued. I read the interview anyway because it had QuakeZero info, and HOLY SHIT! (*queue orgasm*) The next game in the Quake series is going to be made in the same style as Quake 3. Competition based, built from the beginning to be a multiplayer game. (*queue second orgasm*) I stopped playing Quake 3 a matter of weeks ago, only because I can't get it to run on my computer (I'd rather not be asked about this). There is nothing that compares to Quake 3. There is still an active community out there that is still taking the engine to new places. Check out own-age.com. They have an awesome section of Quake 3 videos, focusing on frag highlights, trick jumping, and defragging. After watching a few you'll realize that they just don't make players like the ones that play Quake 3. If Id can recreate the magic with this new game.... I can't even imagine a situation that would give me a semblance of the happiness I'll feel. Here's a link if you're interested in reading the whole thing. Cheers

You do know that this isn't really a sequel, it is a web based version of Quake 3 Arena (you play it through a web browser) and it will be free. Only difference is it will have some slightly upgraded graphics.

Thanks V-Deck. To dyslixec, please read the article. If you were a fan, you'll be pretty happy about what's said.

What you are referring to is QuakeZero. There is ANOTHER Quake game that is seperate from that. QuakeZero is the Q3 remake being supported by ads and played in a web browser. What I'm talking about is an entirely new game. Seriously, its all in the article

Hrm, interesting. Only two announcements about quake that I heard about was the QuakeZero and Quake Arena on Live Arcade, I will have to keep more track of this.

I think I'll refer to the new quake as

"Quake arena 2" \0/

Sounds good to me, because I'm thinking that QuakeZero thing likely won't be supported on systems not running Windows, so I'd be left out of that. But with the sequel (supposedly) being an independent game like the original Quake 3, it'll have Mac and Linux versions like Quake 3 did, so I'll be playing it. And there's always the future of id Tech 5 going GPL in 5+ years like the previous id engines of that age have, further spreading the use of id's technology. Because if id didn't open their engines up after a long time, we'd never have DOOM on iPod's.

Glad you liked the interview (I'm the one that did it :P).

I really do feel that id knows what they're doing and glad that they've finally realized the phenomenom of eSports, and that a MP centric game is neccesary.

BTW, to read the whole interview, go here: http://www.gameriot.com/news/4135/New-Quake-Games-and-More/
