I am a person that never buys games at full price if I don’t have to. I will trade other games or wait for sales because 60 buckaroos is quite a lot for one game. I thought $50 was bad when I was a kid, but I understand that they cost much more to make than in the good old SNES days. All things considered, to be a gamer in this day of age will cost you a good bit of money. So why do I find the Kinect price damn near outrageous.
I know that Kinect has some good hardware inside of it, but I don’t think it’s appropriate or wise to price it so high. Now will $150 break the bank? No it will not, but for a peripheral, it’s damn expensive. That’s what this is, a peripheral. Now I know that there were some of those in the 80’s that cost near $300, but they were usually made by third party companies trying to fool the customer into paying too much for something that wasn’t worth the money. Remember that thing you stood on with the ball in the middle of it?
I have this sinking feeling that Microsoft is heading into Power Glove territory, and remember how that ended. I mean I would love this thing to blow up in Microsoft’s faces since they have been so smug about it. Like Sony before the PS3 came out…remember that? When they incredibly over priced their console. And I can’t help wanting to tell Microsoft to look at the Wii Fit. The Wii Fit bundle still sells for $100, and they’ve sold a shit ton. I feel they are thinking “We’re Microsoft, we make Xbox, people will pay it.” *Cough Sony cough PS3 cough*
Lastly let’s also think about how we are in a RECESSION. The video game industry has seen decreases in sales for the past two years, but Microsoft is going to sell a peripheral for more than a $100 price point. Not smart.
Was I going to buy a Kinect, I don’t really know. It’s strange. With that $150 price point and no A list game to back it up, I think HELL NO. However if it was only $100 I would think about it. Weird what a difference $50 can make.
