A patch was released today, makes the jumping better

http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=app&AppId=19500&

Comments etc are welcome, as you can see on the page the game will be regularly updated with new levels, baddies etc... and chapters, instead of just fucking the player with doing one game and loads of sequels where you have to pay, we automatically update it.

Plus it's got the level editor.

The steam video seems to be shit, so you guys can download the video here

its in HD

P.S
If there is any bugs report to support@silverspherestudios.com
And who for whoever found the first chapter too hard, don't worry we plan to update regularly the game with new worlds and chapters, also any criticisms or things you want changed please voice yourselves, WE listen to players and want to make sure everyone is 100% happy with their purchase.

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

Just played the first two levels. Very awesome. I love the art style and the gameplay is great. I fell into the water a bunch of times and kept dying :P

But the shooting mechanics are great and the alternate little charge-ball/shotgun blast is awesome.

Definitely gonna be working my way through the game in the next few days before class gets heavy again.

Grats man! Unfortunately, as a mac user, I'll have to wait for the WiiWare version.

maxio098ui: Most new releases on Steam have a 10% or so discount during the first week.

I'd buy this (hell that price is virtually free) but I don't have a penny in the bank at the moment thanks to extortionate bank charges :(

Maybe next week

clickandbuy is a online-payment-service-thing (like paypal), but theres no need for a credit card, since the payment is made by direct debit (check the website for more information on that)
I bought trials 2, everday shooter and penny arcade using click&buy from steam and never ahd any problems.
+ you can buy from iTunes with click&buy too.

@Luc: Will you be allowed to reveal how many copies you've sold after the first week or whatever? Or is that a big no-no with Steam?

Also, I'll be buying mine within the hour.

If I had more money to spare then I would, but alas I am poor.

As for constructive criticism based on the trailer, though, I find the running animation sloppy but I realize that is a budget issue. Making a tweened walking animation that is decent is super hard.

One day, sir, one day.

Game keeps crashing at the screen that shows the name of the first level :(, so yeah... haven't actually played it :/

No, what have I done?! I killed Mr. Destructoid!

I'm enjoying what I've played so far. I got to the end of Level 3, but I missed one of the gems so I'll have to replay it. This is easily one of the most beautiful modern 2D games (It easily gives Odin Sphere a run for its money). It looks nice in screenshots, but you haven't really "seen" it until it's running fullscreen on your computer in a high resolution.

My only problem with it is that the jumping acts funny once in a while, causing me to fall to my death. Also, I kept falling through through some of the platforms on the first level, but that might have been because I jumped too close to the edge of them.

Question: Is there something wrong with the "Purchased Game" Achievement? Mine doesn't seem to be active.

Kudos to you sir for finally releasing it. I know from reading your cblog entries that you've put a lot into the game. :)

Because we plan to update the game as much possible to make sure the consumer is 100% happy

Bought and beat the first 2 levels...

Really fun, but to EASY!

The only thing that makes the second level difficult is the lack of checkpoints. I would sometimes acidently fall in the water and have to start from the begining with nothing to kill or collect...just running back to my previous position.

I rarely get hit, let alone die, from enemies.

I wouldn't say it's too easy, but it's not as hard as I was expecting. It manages to be challenging without being frustrating, which is a very good thing.

I just not noticed that Chapter 1 has 20 levels. You definitely get a lot for your money. (I'm on level 6 and my steam counter says I've been playing for 2 hours already.)

Yeah I read the review before coming here... Don't really know what to do to be honest... A side of me really want to try it, but on the other hand the reviews and the massive amount of users on IRC keep telling me not to

Like I said in the comments of the review, I'm really glad that I tried the game out before reviews started popping up. Otherwise I might have stayed away from it.

So, how much control do you have over the WiiWare version? I was reading your other blog (and some of your comments here) about how you were getting into fights and disagreements with your programmer(s) over various things in the game. Is anything like that hampering the WiiWare version, or is that being handled by a different development team?

Oh yeah. One more minor problem I had with the game. Is there an easy way to take out the big mechanical bird-like creatures? Because they take so long to kill, which kind of disrupts the flow of the game.

My usual method for handling them is running close to them, shooting for as long as I can, and then running off-screen so they begin to move back to their starting position. Then I repeat the process over and over until they die. (I'm so glad that they don't track you through the whole level like the hearts do once you get in range.)

Oh, and where is the text prologue that Anthony complained about in his review? I never saw that, so I've been extremely clueless about the game's story. Was it supposed to appear before the first level, or did I accidentally skip it somewhere?
LucBernard's Avatar - Comment posted on 08/01/2008 20:52

well anthony has his own opinion doesn't he, the prologue is in the intro section you dont have to see it to play the game

"I wish they took that into consideration before putting the whole community against me haha"

That's a little unfair :( What you see in the review is an honest opinion given by two people. They didn't incite the community to harass you. A review is just a point of perspective, how someone else outside of that reacts is their personal choice. The comments by the community is a mix of mob mentality, prejudgment, and some worthwhile criticism/praise.

You also have to realize that not every person who reads Dtoid is a douchebag that plays follow the leader. Or even, for that matter, uses an account to leave commentary. Some shitstorms aren't worth pursuing.

I'll wait for the demo before I decide to pass along any criticism :)

As much as I support you, I have to agree with 10Bobmarleys up there.

I support you as a developer, but I think you need to learn to hold your tongue a bit when it comes to criticism. Ignore the people who are being outright assholes, listen to the people who are offering ideas and constructive criticism.

Accept that your game is imperfect; don't make comments blaming the programmers for control problems, and don't blame the community here if you feel like the game isn't being well received. Most of the people here support you so when you make comments like "this community is turning on me" it kind of makes me mad because most of us are trying to help you by giving you are support and our hopes that you put out another game that's even better. Hell, half of the community here has written that they love the game, despite the review!

So seriously, just take a minute. Take a deep breath; calm down. Keep positive, and don't turn your back on the people in this community who support your effort.

I don't have steam (GASP) but I know if you ever sold art for this game, without even having played it, I would buy it right off the bat. Keep your unique style and ideas; just implement them more effectively next time.

Luc.. I bought your darn game. I really wanted to like it, I mean really, but sadly I couldn't And to be honest I wouldn't turn down a refund. Crontrols aside the game just isn't fun... it's a 2D side scroller and it has no motivation and it maintains that feel of been there done that.

So in short not a good game.
