hm... Maybe a discussion rather than a debate right? You should be careful though- the industry doesn't need another Dennis Dyack. Everybody is entitled to their opinion but I would love to hear a discussion between you and reviews. You explain your intention, they tell you how it works or doesn't. Would be an interesting read- AND also maybe help you and other developers create more compelling software in the future.
Do it.

oh yeah a discussion is the same thing as a debate to me

I want to understand what he does not like, and also why he got to review it when he didn't even read the manual or try the full version

that's my main concern really, but now the damage is done, next time I should just sent over a demo and tell people to review it lol

but I'm not turning into Dennis Dyack lol

Um, instead of a huge public discussion can you not just tell them that what they thought was a review copy was not a finished code and send them a real review copy? Doesn't sound too complicated to me.

And yeah, seconded on the "don't become Dyack" sentiment. Or the guys that developed LAIR. No one likes those people.

I think a public discussion is better since behind the scenes all sorts of things can happen.

I think a public discussion will happen regardless, Luc :)

Luc, I have to say that the game hasn't been officially reviewed yet. We would not write up and publish an entire review without having final review code in our hands. That said, because we do have a close relationship with you via Dtoid and the community, we wanted to let you know that based on what was played, a review doesn't look favorable.

That, of course, COULD change when we get the final build in our hands. I have to repeat again, the game was never officially reviewed.

Did you get my email? I didn't realize that wasn't the final build. I sent it to the team from my blackberry while I was parading around at Comic-Con. We won't put up the review until we have the final build with the level editor, etc. We play a ton of early builds all the time (Too Human almost 3 years ago is a good example) that we didn't like which may change on the finished game. We take all that stuff into account.

Anyhow, we'd love to have you as part of the review process. I wish more companies would get this involved.

@Nick do you think you can wait until I send you the Steam code of the final game?

and also still have a discussion :D just because I think it will be interesting and different

I still want to do one because I know that Destructoid is very harsh in reviews it's either good or it sucks

knowing that the game has mixed reactions depending on what kind of gamer you are

Unless the delta between the Niero code and the final code is so great that it's a different game, I don't see the point in getting your panties in a bunch. Besides, it's not as if you're going to change the game at this point if you conceed a number of the reviewers points.

Also, who reads a manual anymore? If you need a manual to learn how to jump properly...That's pretty weaksauce. Level editor is a bonus and shouldn't count against the game review score anyway.

"Discussions" never end up going well, because the author always ends up butthurt that someone doesn't like the work that the author spent months/years on.

So awesome. I love drama when it doesn't involve me.
